  • Jane first started out as a watercolorist before she started painting with acrylics. This particular lesson was the first subject matter she painted in acrylics at the workshop. While everyone was using watercolors, the instructor was showing Jane the acrylic approach. She loved it--painting with white and the bright colors. The Freedom! Today she shares the lesson with you. If you want more indepth classes, you can visit Jane's website, JaneSlivkaGallery.com and click on shop.

Hey Jane, I thank i am in love :) - i am an old guy who has just been painting a year (i began in response to alzheimer's diagnosis) and I have wanted to paint the style you use but I never could figure out how to loosen up - I watched one video and I was sold, of course I will watch many more. Thank you. You do such a great job and your freedom is so encouraging to me - thank you, God bless you in your work Hollis

Jane, your advice is always so encouraging. I have had people in my art group asking about the red background, and the “instructor” even tried to discourage me from that method. I told her that I had been doing it for many of my paintings, and I was very happy with the results. Watching your videos and taking your class has helped my confidence in my painting.

Simple and beautiful. I’m curious if you’ve written any art books or if that’s something you’d ever be interested in. You always give great tidbits of advice in these videos, including innovative ideas for creating a painting, so my idea would be to compile all those ideas in an illustrative format in some kind of art teaching book. I imagine writing a book wouldn’t be a walk in the park, but could feel invigorating. Cheers.

@LloydM100 hi!! That’s great your going to start painting- may I suggest to have a look at kevinoilpainting channel- (paint with Kevin)- I started out with learning from him when he first started- his older videos are easier and nicer- also he has download lessons available- techniques series is great- I always refer back to them- and the landscape are so worth it-
Also- for learning- I focused on one or two painters- then as you develop your own signature brushstrokes- watching other painters always can pick up tips here and there-
Another channel- acrylic- is Correa art and art of John Magne Lisandro-
Not sure if your acrylic or oils-
I can tell you- acrylic paints are much more difficult- people don’t understand this- like watercolor is for Masters-
Many struggle and never really achieve their potential yet stick with acrylic because there’s a misconception about oils -
Paint with Kevin posts videos on both oils and acrylic-
He also oil paints (non toxic)
No thinner- I use Linseed oil- to thin paint only when blocking in- the underpainting- a dash- and not all the times- with landscape no need to- florals yes-
Best of fun too you- if you have any questions- comment and I’ll be happy to help-
If your interested in books- on oil painting- seascape and landscape-
      Carlson landscape
Helen Van Wyk (she has few books can be found low price- at times the books will go sky hi- and then back down low- you can find for 10dollars is good price-
Her book on (Color recipes) hard copy - again she has a few of them- I have all of her books-
But the one with - a pic of a palette on cover with paint- is good-
And if your interested in seascape- beat is books by E. John Robinson- again he has 4 books- the very first one from - and the last one he published are the best and (many think they’re the same- not) the first one has wonderful step by step- and close up- everything one needs to know painting the ocean-
These books also fluctuate in price from 10-150.00 dollars
They are priced low now- Amazon- eBay- usually can find them and there’s a thrift book store online as well- again the prices change a lot-
Feel free to message me if you have any questions- enjoy your painting journey-
Again- acrylic paints are not fun and difficult- many think they are cheaper and that’s not true-
Good oils- Windsor and Newton- (Winton ) brand are good and priced low- needs linseed to thin them- at times depending if your painting wet on wet- Alla Prima
So many keep practicing and painting with acrylic and takes years before they can really achieve something that looks presentable-
Bob Ross oils are great and his brushes are best- and canvases- I’ve became a brush hoarder have most every brand- but the Ross are the best-
      And his canvases-
Canvas surface also makes a difference depending on using oils and or acrylic paints- and for landscape a medium texture- for oils
Remember- acrylic paints will become darker when they dry- they say mix a value under- a tad lighter than what should be-

I'm a beginner trying to find my style, i think I've found it, thank you! There's one painting that i have done that really resonates with me, , its this one! I'm trying to figure out why. I'm pretty sure its the red underpainting. it just sets itself apart from all my others. I purchased your video /tutorial and it was great, thanks... and keep them coming, they really help me.Question..when do you use orange as an underpainting vs red? and does this red/orange under painting technique really only work with negative painting ?

    • @freedomofacrylicswithartis5133
      @freedomofacrylicswithartis5133  2 месяца назад +1

Thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciate it. It does not make a difference to me whether I paint the canvas orange or red or mix orange and red together. even if I weren’t negative painting, I would still paint the canvas orange or red.

Jane, thank you for another nice video. How is it possible that your paint is still wet during the making of this painting? I also use acryl but halfway it is as dry as a bone. Keep up the good work!

Good question. I use the Masterson Stay wet palette. I keep the sponge and paper wet, mist my palette to keep the paint from drying and cover the palette when not in use. Hope this helps.
