Today I want to show you why I love Bangkok, Thailand! We are heading to Thonburi in search of new Thai street food dishes and new adventures!
I stumbled across this unbelievable 50 year old street food cart called Uncle Tu 10 Baht and as the name suggests, everything here is 10 THB which is $0.30!!!! I quickly got friendly with the super happy legend that is Lung Tu (Uncle Tu). He ran me through the dishes like we were old friends in the family kitchen!
I had:
Pad Kaprao Moo Sap - Holy Basil Pork
Moo Gratiem - Garlic Pork
Moo Pad Prik Pao - Pork Stir Fried in Chilli Paste
Rad Na Moo - Pork Gravy Noodles
The whole meal came to 50 Baht, which is £1.20/ $1.50 🤯

I lived in this area when I was a kid. Uncle is amazing! They're sell food for very cheap prices. Everyone had a delicious dinner. Uncle is kind, determined, talks less, works hard. We love you uncle. Uncle made people who have little money to eat and fill their stomachs. Sometimes, I have only 10 baht, we can eat food. Thank you very much Ungle. ❤🙏 #life

It was great fun. I mentioned you to one of the guests who owns and operates a semi truck transport service, that he has been everywhere in the USA, what he thinks of your home in San Luis, he said beautiful but expensive. I wish you could have been at the party and meet them.

In regards to the small portions, Thai people eat more often than Westerners, therefore, the smaller dishes are just enough to satisfy a smaller appetite. When I was recently in Thailand, I thought it was odd that my Thai friends took me to eat two hours before our scheduled dinner. My Thai friends said that eating a small meal before a big one helps line the stomach, "long tong". You just have to remember not to get full because then you won't have room for your dinner later.

Hi Gary. I was in Bangkok 2 weeks ago. Actually I went to ICON Siam and I wish I knew where Uncle is. I didn’t have good food experiences because I didn’t know where to go. So it is my fault. I wish I know most local restaurants like you do. Thanks for sharing.
I love how small those dishes are! I'd much rather eat 5 small plates than 1 big plate, love the diversity.

What's amazing is that Uncle is my age and still doing that each and every day. I'm jealous. I can still move it just as he does, but I'm not sure about 24/7/365. Nice one, Gary. Actually I can see why he's got all that energy.....he loves what he does and he's happy. That's what some wise person once said: "If you're doing what you love, you'll never work another day in your life".

Majority of tourists wont come to this part of town for the main reason is because of the lack of language skills, and or simple fear of the unknown.
Only people who will explore this part of town are the adventurous and ballsy tourists who love to get off the beaten path like myself, I try to speak a bit of Thai here and there need to seriously improve, but in the mean time I need to visit these hidden gems. These places are now marked on my Google maps and I have literally hundreds of new places to visit, I definately can see or visit all these spots on one trip thats for sure. Great work Gary your going beyond the standard.

Considering the prices of eggs in different parts of the world, that egg alone paid for the rest of the dish.
I don't know where you are but in Thailand. We divide eggs into several sizes as 0, 1, 2, 3.
No.0 is the largest, No.3 is the smallest. No.0 eggs price at the farm cost about 3.50 baht. If it's sold in the fresh market, it's about 5 baht per egg.
Other size, such as No.3 eggs. It may be sold for about 4 baht.
Thailand is an agricultural country. Food ingredients are not expensive. We have a lot of chicken farms. Even during an epidemic of chicken. When eggs is in short supply. The price at the farm is never more than 5 baht per egg.
As for the eggs sold in supermarkets with packages from leading companies, the price is different because of other factors such as free cage, free range, young chicken eggs or vitamin supplements.
The really expensive thing is pork. Good part of pork almost 200 baht per kilogram. The cheap part is around 150 baht per kilogram.
Oh! Vegetable oil is also expensive, 1 liter around 60-65 baht. 😄

ผัดกระเพราคุณไม่จำเป็นต้องปรุงนะ คือใส่น้ำปลาแค่นิดหน่อยก็พอแล้ว ถ้าใส่เยอะเกินไปคือกินแทบไม่ได้เพราะรสเค็มมันแรงมากๆ ส่วนราดหน้ากับผัดซีอิ้วคือคุณต้องปรุงนะ จะใส่พริก น้ำตาล น้ำปลา น้ำสมสายชู อะไรก็ได้ผสมๆกันตามรสชาติที่คุณชอบ ส่วนใหญ่ทางร้านเค้าก็จะทำมาเพื่อให้ใส่เครื่องปรุงอยู่แล้วรสชาติมันเลยจะออกจืดๆรสชาติกลางๆไม่โดดเด่น ดูเหมือนคุณจะยังไม่รู้วิธีพื้นฐานในการกินอาหารไทยนะ แต่คงเพราะอาหารไทยมันค่อนข้างหลากหลาย คุณต้องเรียนรู้เพิ่มหน่อยนะ ไม่งั้นอาจจะไม่ได้รสชาติที่แท้จริงของอาหารไทยได้ 😅
