Hi Adi, it depends on how I'm fishing a soft plastic. Fishing a bit deeper (3m-5m) like in this video, I'm using a 1/12th jighead, size 2. If I'm fishing pontoons, I'll probably use a 1/20th jighead or a 1/28th HWS jighead, size 1 or 2. Anything deeper than 5m I'll use a 1/6th or 1/8th.
Carl, what size battery do you think I'd need for an old 5 inch screen fish finder, Eagle fishmark 640c, LOL I know it's not much but it's better than nothing [ maybe] on a beginners budget.
Hi Justme.9711, sorry for the slow reply. I used to use a Diamec (I think) 12 volt 7.2AH battery. That was fine with my old Lowrance sounder I used to have. They're were about $40 from Jaycar.
G'day Mal. In the cooler months, the fish will move deeper and start to school up. I was using my sounder to locate the schools. Have a look at 2:45 and 4:45 in the video where you can see my sounder screen.

Very nice mate. What weight jighead are you throwing and it looks like you're in the middle of the channel there. Good to know bream sit in the middle and not always around the structure.
Thanks Peter. Jighead is a TT 1/8th size 1.I'm fishing in between 4-6m of water in current, so need to get the SP down. In winter the fish will move deeper and start to school up. You'll still get them around structure though.
Thanks Warren. For the vibes, the rod is a Team Daiwa Hyper 762MHFS that has had the butt trimmed about 3 inches (to make it easier to handle in the yak). Reel is a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 2500, loaded with Gosen 6.4kg (0.6PE) casting braid and a 4lb Gosen Bass Reloaded FC leader. For SP's, it's a Daiwa Wild Weasel 6101 MLFS (2-6kg) matched with a Gladiator Tackle Banax Ionix 2000 reel. Braid is Gose W multi color 4.6kg (0.8PE) with 4lb Gosen Bass Reloaded FC leader.

Hi Carl, I just got a canoe and I wanted to ask how important and how much of an advantage is a fish finder, especially since you guys seem to be in not that deep of water. I realise it may be a silly question, but that's the only way I can get an honest answer, which is what I want, thanks. I'm at woy woy.
G'day Just me. There's no silly questions. Fish finders I consider to be an invaluable bit of kit. However, I mainly use it to see depth and structure. Sure, it can help you find schools of fish but knowing where drop offs or reefs are, are more important I think. For example, if a river is 5m deep but has a small reef rising to 4m, this is where the fish will usually congregate. Plus a sounder that lets you mark a location (for example, where you caught a fish or where that reef is) allows for you to come back to the exact spot time and time again.
