Cali Colombia 2024 - A Scared Gringo has Landed

- late January 2024 I'm taking a trip to Cali Colombia for about 3 weeks. Staying in the Granada area near Centro Comercial Centenario. For the first 5 days I stayed in the Gran Hotel for about $25 per night.

So many memories from watching this video, I used to walk all those streets in my youth with my two good friends (one died more than 34 years ago, and the other one, well; ......... we lost contact) and the only things I have from those days are my memories, just remembering how happy we were (completely skint) but without worries of any kind; we used to roam around the "Colombo Americano", where my friend and I were learning English, now all those days seem so far away, like dreams that come to my head .......... and I feel that part of me, still is wondering in those streets, in the evening, walking along the shops and sitting on the benches of "Parque La Maria" ...... how I miss those days, how I miss my two good friends ......... maybe one day we will get together again, no in this life but I hope in the next one.

the streets in Cali are not the best ... for example, he was next to Granada one of the best neighborhoods in the North and the streets are full of pot holes. i live there 6 months per year.

Good choice. Can't say I loved the food but it was one of the least expensive cities I've ever been to. Everything was cheap there, especially dental care.
Why would you want to move to Colombia cali out of all places? This city sucks truly there is nothing interesting enough to make a move

Down to earth, I like it. We have a similar situation to that crocodile infested river analogy here in Ecuador with expats that believe it’s safe because nothing has happened to them yet.
I was in Guayaquil and Montenita back in 2021, I remember the Malecon in Guayaquil, full of happy families taking a stroll. Just shocked by how things went south so suddenly.
@@pddembowski yeah, the country changed really quickly. The gangs were always there, slowly growing like a disease, but it wasn’t until the government started pushing back that things got extremely violent. Fortunately, so far the government has been effective and serious about combatting the cartels and the level of violence has already dropped sharply.
La ciudad sucia, caotica y peligrosa, con muy mala señalizacion para turistas.
Smart fit is well worth if you travel (even if not using it many months a year) it has 1,400 locations in central and south 🇺🇸 and only $20-22 a month (depending on exchange).

Been to Cali several times and never had an issue. Just like anywhere else you have make sure you stay in good areas and do not venture in to areas that are sketchy. Not sure about being scared. It is a beautiful city!
Yes, but everyone says that until the day the have an "issue". I felt Cali was maybe a bit more sketchy than anywhere else, but not as dangerous as most major cities in the USA and not as dangerous as is presented online.

I go to Smart gym on calle 10 in Medellin all the time and get a day pass. I have been coming back to Colombia for 15 yrs nothings happened to me but only been to Providence, RI, USA once and was robbed. Go figure.

From what I understand, they had this entry fee before the pandemic, paused it during the Pandemic, then reintroduced it a few months ago. Not a good idea in my opinion.
I don't blame people going abroad to get dental work done. It's becoming abuntadly clear that here in the Western countries we face higher costs for these types of things to be done. I'm here in Australia and to get dental work done, its hella expensive. I have a good job and all but half the people put it off due to the cost.
Would love to visit Cali for a holiday. Hope the beaches are beautiful.
Oh you better get private health insurance. Medicare won't cover it.

Too many sexpats and foreign tourists going to Colombia for partying. And 2 Mil Venezuelans in Colombia. I never have a problem and love Colombia, just use common sense and u will be fine.

Spent a lot of time in Colombia and wasnt impressed with the dental. Here in Cambodia I had a tooth pulled for $50. Cleaning is $10-$15. Had 2 crowns for $100 a piece. Implants are $1000. Never have been charged for an xray. Similar prices in Vietnam.
Ok but If you are in North America it costs a lot less to travel to Colombia (or Mexico) for dental work than Vietnam.

How much was your dental treatment?
Not finished yet, but so far:
$25 - teeth cleaning
$12 - 2 x-rays
$25 - small filling
$120 - over 2 hours with a specialist getting a root canal
Que viene a criticar a Cali o cualquier ciudad de Colombia .aqui en Usa tambien hay cosas buenas y malas entre ellas tanta matanzas asi x que asi ,robos y demas ,que no venga hacer el gringo
