You should have come and visited me..I have been around here since 2003 and been all over the country
My favorite city in colombia, nice and chill
I have such good memories in Cali! Stayed at an amazing hostel were we would have dance lessons every night, then afterwards eat together with a bunch of people and go dancing in the city. The salsa club in this video is were we also spend most of our nights haha. Good times, miss it a lot.
whats the name of the hostel?
Yes! Cali is "un buen vividero" ... Cali is the only city in the world that has 500,000 people all dancing salsa simultaneously all over the city during the Feria (between Christmas and New Year's). Cali has a dry summer tropical savanna climate that is easy to adapt to, especially in the evenings, especially when there is a breeze from the Farallones, especially with "los aromas de caña y camias" in the air. Thanks for being positive about the culture of Cali.
Been here for 2 & a half years. Cali is awesome!
You went south to Ciudad Jardin. I will take Cali anyday over Medellin. Old School vibe....love it.
Yeah very nice there
I’ve been hearing so much about Cali lately. Gonna have to go and check it out for myself.
do it bro
Ah. Cali, Colombia. The Capital of Salsa Music.
Have watched a lot of videos about Cali, and I must say that this video is among the best I've seen. Fantastic presentation and an unbiased view.👍
I love Cali. It's my favorite city in Colombia.
Great video Wes! Very straight forward and straight to the point.
Thanks Kevin!!
I went to Cali last October to Dec❤ and I must say I fell in love with Cali. Love the vibe, people, food and the places. Can’t wait to go back ❤
I love the way you just list off, one after the other, what you like about a place. Really gives me a good idea on if id like to go somewhere:)
Time is money, don't wanna waste yours
@@WheresWes ☺️
While I have you on the line Wes lol, have you been to boyaca colombia?
Love cali , the vibe is so much more relaxed, Granada suites same place I stayed at
Did you stay at Miguel’s AirBnB?
I love Granada ❤❤❤❤
Good info. Just arrived in Cali today.
Just completed 4 months in Cali, i left last month, i personally liked it more than Medellin, and yes it's a pretty good mix and yes San Antonio definitely has tourists and definitely in Chipichape mall, and im not into the pay 4 play scene and i felt more comfortable safety wise in Cali then Medellin. In Cali stayed in the south, the north and the middle area so i had a very mixed experience, i also stayed my last 2 weeks in San Antonio.
yeah everyone has their own opinion, I liked Cali a lot too
Which were your favorite areas?
wes i realy appreciate this video
My wife's from Cali. I love it there. The people treated me well whenever I was there.
Have traveled to Cali regularly for years and eventually married a calena. Your description of Cali was 100 percent correct
Another great video
I'm glad you found Cali nice. I don't like hot weather
Kool vlog🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the video. I was always reluctant to go to Cali because of how dangerous I was told it was. After your video I feel safer going. I live in Santa Marta and like to dance salsa. I look forward to going.
It's still unsafe tho so be aware.
Good to hear Wes. I finally made it to Medellin. I can see why you left. 3 million people there. Atleast 1 million homeless or crazy. Did go to Botero museum. Poblito Paisa..but mostly stuck in traffic.
Yeah the traffic lately has been super bad
@Where's Wes? So far Manizales is my new home. In Guatepe this week glamping. Climbed the El Penol today. A well deserved cervesa was waiting for me at the top.
Keep Cali old school!
the calm before the storm
lol, it's when it all started actually
I finally spent some more time in Cali as my wife is originally from there. It isn't as pretty as Medellin but the vibe of people is better than Medellin. Salsa >Reggaeton . I feel safer in Parque de Perro than El Poblado. I don't see homeless and hookers everywhere in Parque de Perro which is a plus. I did a 12 mile skate with a skate group there at night and didn't feel in danger.
I would agree with that. There's more culture in Cali
Cali, like California was Beautiful and is falling down and apart.
How much I love you. Cali colombia colombia 🇨🇴
Soy de Cali, Medellin es mas bonito y tiene mejor estructura, pero la diferencia no es mucha, y Cali tiene mas alma, es mas organico y original, y somos la ciudad mas alegre de Colombia y la mas diversa.
I'm from Cali, Medellin is more beautiful, it has better infrastructure, however, the difference is not that big, and Cali has more soul, it's more organic and original, we're the happiest city in Colombia, and the most diverse.
de acuerdo
Yesterday was 420 celebration day, lol 😂 maybe that was the reason of the smell
This is great video . Did you do this for Cartagena? I want to move to Cartagena
I did but had to delete it. Wasn't a fan of Cartagena tho
@@WheresWes sorry you had to delete it bro. Your eec wife family was in that video too .. 🤦🏽♂️.. But anyway why i didn’t you like it ?
I have a video still up tho, look up Cartagena where's Wes
Live here for a reason 😁
It sounds a lot like Auckland, New Zealand!
Now I miss Chipichape
@whereswes if your still there can you send me back some empanadas. They are the best corn shells
Just come and visit and please go back to wherever is it that you are !
Where were you in the shot where you showed the b-roll of Malcolm X, Ali, and James Brown at 4:35?
Salsa club called la topa
I love your videos I'm in the DR now but going to Bogota then Cali. How long are you going to be in Cali? I just sent you a what's app.
Are the restaurants there more expensive than the states though?
Not is Chipechape, is Chipichape. Ja, ja, ja.
Good video. Thansk you.
Salutations from Santiago de Cali.
well done it seems like whenever people talk about Cali they only know dangerous and Salsa that's it. They don't talk about other things. r This was a great review a lot of RUclipsrs only go there in Colombia for women and P4P they seem to never give good reviews. Their reviews don't advantage the average jo.
Wow, you succeeded in talking me out of visiting with all the negative stuff..😢
For sure, your opinion
I love the street justice here. Not like in the states where Kids can go running around and destroying peoples property...here in Cali...they wont hesitate to Machete ya up!
Enjoyed the video. Been there 2 times and there's NO ASIAN people! Lol
There is
Check out Calis infamous zoo
as a "caleña" i only want to say, cali isn't just salsa, rumba, a cute "bulevar" to hang out with friends, i love my city but its sad the reality that we caleños live here every day is far from how beautiful it looks for tourists. visit cali but please be aware that it is a dangerous city if you don't know how to walk in
Great comment
Best thing about Cali is that it dont catch much attention ... why ppl movin to latin america... just to make youtube videos and bring down more clout chasers is beyond me....
there is no way there is even 1/10th the amount of gringos there than Medellin
Fewer gringos can be viewed as another positive aspect of Cali! 😉 Just become fluent in Spanish and your enjoyment will increase tenfold.
@@Neosan1982 Oh, I totally agree! That would be a positive thing for me. He just referenced a few times in the video that there are a good amount of gringos there, but I'd have to see it to believe it to be honest with you.
@@ej1692 ... Colombia keeps statistics on how many foreigners visit Colombia. I don't know how many decide to stay. From Jan to Jun 2022 it broke down like this for cities: Bogotá (38 %), Medellín (19 %), Cartagena (18 %), Cali (6 %), Barranquilla (2 %).
Sin subtítulos 😭😭😭
Cali has a great vibe. I like it. The city isn't the prettiest but the vibe is amazing. It's in the air. Barranquilla is the same. You should check it Wes.
Agreed
@Where's Wes? You'd like Barranquilla specially if you try the chicken Arab style. The best in Colombia.
How can I reach you for a consultation ? It seems that your e-mail address isn't working.
Usingthisforspam283@gmail.com
Ssshhh!! Keep this on the low. Especially, if you don't speak Spanish
I thought Cali had a huge Afro-Latina population. Didn't see that in your video.🤔
Yeah its true. Im not going to go and film random girls tho lol
@@WheresWes Random girls? Jjj So you preselected the girls in your videos?🤔
Anybody can name at least one more thing that you can do in Cali except for Salsa ? I can't come up with any 🤔
you can use that same logic with anywhere though. At the end of the day is Medellin really that world class? Not a ton to do there either
It's true. But salsa alone is good enough for people to go
The question is always "what to do?" ... Doing, doing, doing. There are other things in life besides doing. Reading. Meditating. Eating. Sleeping. Watching movies or TV or telenovelas. Visiting with friends. Learning Spanish. Taking classes (I took salsa classes in Cali.) I am fluent (bilingual) so I also enjoy listening to spoken language radio programs in Spanish, like those of Diana Uribe, a tremendous historian who also has a podcast. In other words, some social stuff, some activity, some quiet time enjoying being alone. An easy comfortable mix of everything. Easy because you are in Cali, not Norway, not a horribly cold climate. In Cali you will never have cold bones like I have when I stay in Bogotá. Cali is a good place for reading or pursuing a hobby or learning a musical instrument or for just being inactive any day of the week. But for that you have to be as comfortable with just being, with doing nothing, as you are with doing... which is tough for some people. Cali es un sucursal del cielo. That is enough for me. In Cali every Sunday morning from 8am-1pm, the city closes down the roads near Las Canchas Panamericanas and tons of people come out to run, walk, ride bikes, and rollerblade with their families. On Friday and Saturday I went to listen and dance to salsa. Other days I wasn't doing, just being. I like to listen to music. Cali had seven FM radio stations that play ONLY salsa 24 hours a day. No other city could say that. Nowhere else in the world has seven 24 hour FM stations dedicated only to salsa. Salsa is not just for dancing. Salsa is a window into the soul of Latin American culture. Salsa, with its Afrocentric roots is not represented by romantic music (salsa romántica). In Cali you can hear other genres of salsa. In Cali you can hear "Salsa Mensaje" (of the 60s and 70s) that tells stories through the lyrics. Ruben Blades, Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, La Fania, and dozens more. Discover the "salsa dura," cathartic salsa, the "salsa brava," "salsa agresiva," "salsa clásica" of the 60s and 70s that transmit messages of panamerican importance for the people of Cali. Go deep into the spiritual aspects of salsa through the messages in the lyrics. Listen to "Siempre Alegre" by Raphy Leavitt. Find the translation of the lyrics in English of that song if you have to. Read about salsa. Start with THE BOOK OF SALSA : A Chronicle of Urban Music from the Caribbean to New York City by César Miguel Rondón (ISBN 978-0-8078-5859-2) Or read Lise Waxer's THE CITY OF MUSICAL MEMORY : Salsa, Record Grooves and Popular Culture in Cali. She did her research in Cali. Learn from salsa. You can do that in Cali among hundreds of thousands of people who know salsa from the inside out. Get to know the salsa that has African roots, religious roots, and the percussion that goes with it, instead of the 21st century superficial insipid erotic synthesizer salsa that has no depth or meaning or social or political message or religious message. Salsa is religious music with roots in the Yoruba religion, in Chango and Yemaya. Learn the history of salsa. Prepare yourself for the Feria de Cali. Learn about the major artists: Venezuelan, Puerto Rican, Newyorquino, Cuban, etc. because in Cali their music is not forgotten. 🥝 Don't forget to have a lulada and pan de yuca...
Sports are very big in Cali too
@@Neosan1982 and yet you end up talking only about Salsa 😀
No entendi un c.......
Hope you had some black ladys
😅
Illegal to have 2 guys on a motorcycle? That's fucked up...
It's that dangerous there unfortunately
I think Cali is way more dangerous than Medellin
100%
You have no idea.
What is the best place to leave between Mexico and Colombia?
Your last line of the video sounds like Borat
veryyy niceeeeee
Cali looks super dope, wish it wasn't a 15 hour flight from me. And I've chatted with very beautiful sweet girls there on IG in the past
