    How's the tram 1191 antenna holding up, do you like it still? I think this would be my choice of antenna since it looks the best (almost a factory look) out of any other antenna solution. Nice video thanks for sharing

      It's holding up just fine and I routinely communicate with repeaters 30 miles away without issues. I even used it this morning. I have another Tram 1191 on a Nissan truck that has been there since 2008 and it's still as good as the day it was installed. I highly recommend it, and for the money and lack of alteration of the vehicle necessary, it can't be beat. I've talked to a repeater 40 miles away on 70cm on 10 watts. I did it yesterday coming home.

    I’m on my second one. When it says 50 watt max, it means it!!!!!! But freakin great antenna!!!

    I'm getting a 2012 Fiesta this weekend. How do you get the audio to play thru your vehicles speakers?

      Very easy! Just use the audio-out jack on the back of the Ham radio and go into the aux-in on the car on the center console. Simple as that! Then select the "aux" input for the car stereo and there is your Ham audio right through the car speakers! Neat and simple!

    Are you able to use the full 50 watts with your DC wiring with the 10amp fuse? I have an old beater truck that I wasn't afraid to drill (not that I did), and ended up running 12 gauge wire directly off the battery terminals along the frame under the back seat so I could reliably power my FT2900 which has a high setting of 75 watts. I used Powerpole connectors so I can swap out radios and potentially charge aux. batteries, etc.

      Yes I have no issues with the 50 watts with the 10 amp fuse. Mathematically speaking, you get watts by multiplying amps x volts. 10 amps x 12 volts means 120 watts. So 50 watts is nothing. Even 75 should be fine. The radio won't draw 50 watts on its own just sitting there.

      @@brandonhebert5485 Hi there, thanks for the video. Your math is correct but in radios, the PA has a very low efficiency. For example, my Kenwood TM-V7 is outputing 30W of RF power in VHF but is pulling 10A under 13,6V meaning a 136W input supply ! That TX is getting old now but all the radios I've seen always had terrible effenciency. So using any part of the car wiring is a big no no for me, I have to pull some cables directly from the battery. Any ideas ? Cheers.

    How did you run power? I just got a '14 Fiesta ST hatchback and i'm looking for options for power. I am considering adding a fuse to the passenger compartment fuse panel. how did you do it?

    • @brandonhebert5485

      I ran a wire to a fuse behind the glove box that turns hot whenever I turn on the ignition so when I shut the car down I don't have to worry about the radio killing the battery. It automatically turns on when I start the engine and turns off when I stop it. This information is in the video description above.

      OK. so that means the passenger fuse panel is wired for ignition only activation? Did you create a new fuse run or use an existing blank space with connectors?

      No I never said the fuse panel is wired for ignition activation. I said I wired it to a fuse that became hot when I turned on the ignition. Each circuit is separate. Some are hot all the time, some are hot only with an ignition activation. You have to use a volt meter and check the circuits and find one that is on only with ignition. Then use that fuse port. I don't know what you mean by "create a new fuse" as all I did was plug one into the board. It's really quite simple. I'm a licensed airplane mechanic but that doesn't mean I go out of my way to do things in the most difficult manner. It's really quite simple. You can also just wire it to a cig lighter plug and plug it into your cig lighter. I didn't do that because I wanted the wire out of the way and out of sight. I also have a dashcam and radar detector that plug into my two cig lighters already.

      I may have worded my question improperly. I am trying to make this as simple as possible. Unfortunately, I have a more equipped version of the Fiesta, so I am unable to locate any unused circuits. I'll have to look again but I may not be in the same boat as you.

      Noah Goldstein My car is a fully loaded SEL model. But it doesn't have to be unused just tap into any of the circuits that come on when the ignition is hot.

    Could you do a video of the a video of the install ? It would help a lot.

    • @airplanemechanic9513
      @airplanemechanic9513  8 лет назад

      +Luciano Diaz Its really not necessary. It's simple. Chose your location for your antenna and stick the box on the inside to the inside of the window. Stick the antenna on the outside, lined up with box on the inside. Run the antenna wire in your location of choice and come up to the radio under the seat. Screw it on. It's not hard. If this installation took me 30 minutes it was because it took 20 minutes to get it tuned.

    It would have been useful to show how you did it.

    does that type of antenna need tuning?

    • @airplanemechanic9513
      @airplanemechanic9513  8 лет назад

      +William Serrano Yes it does. There is a tuning screw on the piece inside the window. You just key the mic and turn the screw until you get lowest SWR's on the recommended frequency. It's very sensitive though. If you do it, BARELY turn the screw.

    i see the screw. its tiny.
