  • Wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it certainly got me in the feels and it's only Chapter 1. I think I've seen up to 6 or 7 out there, so I'll need to catch up!

    This ENTIRE story is intense. Ren was SO BRAVE to be so vulnerable to possibly help someone suffering.

    Actually, the very first thing a psychiatrist is supposed to do is eliminate any possible medical cause to the symptoms. I think many doctors are not used to really listening. They have been taught a format of thinking tied to a protocol of treatment and are certainly not taught to consider the self wisdom of the patient.
    Ren is fulfilling the promise he made to the others in the Lyme and ME community, to remember them if he ever got onto the other side and got a platform. He change his profile picture to MISSING, because this is the Million Missing ME and Lyme disease awareness month. . He pledged to be the voice for the voiceless, those made invisible and isolated by their illness, like he was.
    His integrity shines here. At the end if the Chapters, tomorrow, he will release TROUBLES, which will also deal with his journey in a song format.

      Great comment! Yes, psychiatrists are medical doctors so they should know better. The only real excuse they have is the rarity of Lyme disease in the UK.

    And that was just chapter one…
    You are right though, you don’t have to travel far down the rabbit hole to love this man and that love only grows as you get to know more about him. Here he is struggling to tell a very difficult story simply because he hopes it will help others. Ren is special ❤

    Chapter 7 was today and we end with 8 tomorrow. They start at 12:15 cst. and his new drop is at 1 pm. Buy a copy of "Troubles" at bandcamp, or maybe any streaming platform(if you haven't already). It is like 0.69 cents.
    Ren said there was a chance to get the song in the top 40 or better. Presales are doing better than he expected.
    He said this could be the first song in history that is about lymes disease/chronic illness and could be top places on the charts. He said eyes and attention will be on it and that is good for the ME/chronic illness community.
    Nice perspective from you on the medical community. There are some good individuals doctors that want to help but the top and as a hole in my opinion want to prescribe pills to keep the big pharma and everything attached to it disgustingly wealthy.

      I'll definitely pick that song up today! I'll react to it later but work has gotten in the way unfortunately!
      Yes, lots of good doctors, but also lots of bad doctors. By bad I don't mean unethical, but just not as competent as you would hope they would be. However, it should be clear that there are 3 very distinct communities - medical professionals, insurance companies, and big pharma. And almost all medical professionals despise both insurance AND big pharma, since both of those things hamper their ability to take care of their patients in the way they think is best.
      Don't get me wrong - there are definitely some unethical doctors out there, but I think the vast majority of the time when a doctor makes a bad decision or prescribes something unnecessary/incorrect, it's just the result of the doctor being human and making an honest mistake.

    Could also mean another clue he was too late. You know he was there. You knew he meant to jump. You race to him but when you get there, he is no where to be found and you look down praying you see something… anything and all you see is still waters.
    That is how I took it.

    Ren has talked about the pros and cons of NHS free healthcare vs US for profit healthcare. NHS may be free, but when it comes to complex issues, the US is better but too expensive. I'm sure I'm not saying it right, but I tried. It was from an interview he did.

      Yes, so true. I remember that interview. (or at least AN interview where he talked about that; can't be sure it's the same one. He was basically saying that while he clearly wished the NHS had caught it, he didn't want to speak badly about something that has helped such an extremely large number of people.

    The doctors let Ren down badly... really badly. They completely dismissed him, refused to HEAR him and fobbed him off with lame excuses. I know what he went through. I went through a similar drama. The medical profession gets shit because it deserves shit. Naturally, there are devoted doctors and nurses but the system stinks regardless of where you live. Ren had much the same disappointment with the alternatives he sought out although in that case it was largely beyond the skills of Reiki practitioners and shamans. Thank you for this reaction.

    • @DadDaughtersandDrinks
      @DadDaughtersandDrinks  4 месяца назад +1

      I think I would separate out the medical profession vs. the medical system when determining who deserves shit. The system, certainly. The profession, not so much. Individual people on a case by case basis. No matter which system you're looking at around the world, the pressure put on the people in the medical profession is completely unreasonable. I think about how stressful my job is and how burnt out I get, and if I screw up no one dies (or lives in pain). These docs have to see huge numbers of patients per day, which often allows them maybe 15 minutes if they're lucky, and they're supposed to figure out and cure issues with the most complex organism on the planet during those 15 minutes. I've heard enough stories from some doctors about other doctors who generally aren't all that competent to know that sometimes it's just the quality of the person (or lack thereof), but more often I think the system itself just puts good doctors in a bad situation, leading to suboptimal healthcare.

      @@DadDaughtersandDrinks Yes, that is all true but a bad system encourages bad doctors while it is discouraging good doctors. Also, a lot of medical professionals are motivated by the esteem of being a doctor rather than compassion towards the sick.

    • @DadDaughtersandDrinks
      @DadDaughtersandDrinks  3 месяца назад +1

      Just curious, how would you say this system encourages bad doctors and discourages good ones? I'm trying to see how but I'm drawing a blank. Having watched a lot of people go through med school, I don't see them (in general) being motivated by the esteem of being a doctor as much as feeling the esteem once they succeed. That being said, this can change them over time (going back to people with bad ethics), but proportionally I still those who are doctors for compassionate reasons are the vast majority, there's just no selection bias for that information.

      @@DadDaughtersandDrinks Let me tell you a story about a friend of mine:
      She was brought to a hospital with bleeding from the anus among other symptoms. A doctor examined her by groping her breasts. She made a complaint but the camera in that room at that time mysteriously failed. So, it was her word against the doctor.
      Fortunately, she got a really good lawyer who was famous in Ireland for winning a case in which a pregnant woman died because the doctors failed to terminate the pregnancy. Expert legal help plus ten years of dogged perseverance led to a win.
      Years earlier, I had warned her of the danger to her health by taking this all the way, and her legal team told her that the system depends on cases like this dissipating because most people don't have the energy, the commitment and the courage to face down a legal case that drags on for decades. Hasn't Trump used the same tactic to exhaust his accusers for his entire life? The system lets him do this because the system taught him this trick.
      I am pleased she ignored my advice and faced down the systemic failure to care.
      Edit. Yes, I misspoke by calling out the medical profession rather than the medical system.

      Interesting (and terrible) story, although I'm not sure how it fits in the conversation. Although originated with a really shitty doctor, it seems more about the legal system than the medical system. And I'm also glad she won!
