I hate the fact that they didn't use the Enterprise-E for this. It would have had a more emotional impact if they had used the E-E as we would have seen it at the beginning and end of its service, plus the TNG crew had ties to that ship.

I can't agree with you any more than to what you just stated. Furthermore to your other comment to jumping all over the timeline has to be stopped too. It seems like destroying the name Enterprise is more important then all of the A,B, and C' s within the alphabet because they have access to all of those letters. It simply appears to be more important in doing that one massive battle and easier to show that then to honestly think of a work around to further continue a good storyline. Basically it is a cop out to the basic fundamentals of storytelling. Its yahoo ... Blow up another Enterprise and slap on another letter and that holds true to every ship of importance like Voyager ABCDEFGHIJ??? at this point. Lol

It would've been around the right time for the E's decommissioning and it would've had more emotional impact. The F should've represented a new beginning.... then again I didn't like most decisions they made with Picard or Discovery. I'm already holding out for a massive canon culling that just wipes out bad decisions in a decade or so. They've messed up too much.

According to Memory Beta it was refit into another class of vessel, which may have involved decommissioning it only to be recommissioned later. This is similar to what happened with Kirk's Enterprise before ST: TMP. There is actual historical precedent of this with the US Navy post WWII Midway class aircraft carriers which were not actually stricken from the Naval register (and thus could be recommissioned much like the Iowa class battleships were for a time.)

Big and powerful, but USA had enough tech and economics to check mate them also. Whlist Federation needs every ship and more available for inevitable for every conflict and unlike USA has to deal with factions with smarts and tech simliar or even cases superior like the BORG or Romulans. F shouldn't be decommissioned in that case. Writers don't make sense.

It's all prequel, remixes, reboots. Creating a new cast and new ship is difficult and risky and Alex Kurtzman wants to keep his job. He doesn't give a crap about what fans want and you're going to keep getting Spock, Seven, Janeway and whoever else they can dig up from the past.

I've made peace with the Enterprise-E being decommissioned after the battle as seen in Prodigy. Yes, she wasn't old by any means, but in my own head canon I just figured they did a cost-benefit analysis; what it would "cost" to repair and refit the Sovereign, versus what it would "cost" to simply build a new ship. It probably was either going to be cheaper to build a new ship, and faster, or about the same as repairing the E.

Video topic idea...for the purpose of this thought experiment, let us create some rules. (A) Since this is reality based thought experiment, we are not allowing FTL technologies or magical navigational shields, sensors and deflectors. (B) The speed of light (1c) is the maximum speed limit and we can travel the speed of light or 1c. (C) While these are real world problems, we are going to ignore things like radiation, heat build up, and temporal distortions. For the sake of the topic, we have the ability to safely travel at the speed of light and can go no faster.
Great...but...how would we realistically do this and not run into something that destroys the ship?
All I can come up with is we could need to use light like sonar, so a fancy version of LIDAR. But this creates limitations also. An internal ship based LIDAR system would limit our range of detection in real time. A ship needs time to send out a signal, receive a detection, process the information, and then react to that information. So what is a realistic LIDAR range that would allow us to safely travel at light speed? Plus, if the ship is moving then the time and distances are going to be greatly reduced. And I'm not certain we could even use a system like this while at light speed cause it's not going to travel faster than us to warn us of a danger in front of us.
But for the sake of the debate, let us say that in order to give a ship at least a 5 minute warning to detect and prepare...we would need a LIDAR system with a minimum range of least 7 light minutes. 1 to send out a signal, 1 to receive the signal, 5 to process and react. And that's a bare minimum. I think it needs to be much more.
This creates only three options for realistic light speed travel, and none are going to inspire films or books...
Option 1) A ship at rest scans a distance in front of them, then travels at light speed to that point and stops. Then scans again and travels to the next point. While not ideal....this leap frog method is the safest I can think of.
Option 2) We throw saftey to the wind and travel at light speed with no way of knowing if there is something in front of us or not. Obviously the most dangerous option.
Option 3) We send a probe in front of us at light speed to tell us what's ahead, then follow behind it accounting for the information as we get it. But this requires for us to 1) correctly account for he incoming information and 2) the probe not malfunction, or collide with something and safely send information to us. Not mention we need to be able to control the probe to stop it at a distance, or return to us, or have a recovery method........a lot of headaches. Risky but an option that allows for longer travel times at light speed for greater distances reached.
    What do you all think?

I want, no demand a new show, showing the Enterprise E's years after Nemesis and its' subsequent refit and in particular the Enterprise F's entire service history!
If the only time we'll see it in Picard is when it's already crippled and about as useful as a wet paper bag - what's the point showing it at all?!
Indeed coming into Picard, I was expecting the refit Enterprise E to be the "hero" ship or at least to feature heavy, to perhaps be getting a bit old by the point in the story, but to perform excellently alongside the new ships, we'd see and MAYBE by the end of series two, start to struggle and Starfleet announce their intentions to replace it with the F or a least suggest that they would soon...
Maybe then this series we'd see the F begin testing, meet its' crew and see it launch at the end of series three, likely ready to star in its' own spin off series, but no!
Will we be teased with the new Enterprise G now?!
Indeed, it's really strange that we didn't get a new canon Star Trek show indeed showing more of the E and the actual F, not long after Nemesis and certainly strange that we didn't get one after Enterprise (the show of the same name), ended!! 😯😂🩲😀🤘🤞

So basically the enterprise e was launched in 2373 and presumably destroyed in 2384 which it only served 11 years and then according to this video enterprise f was launched in 2386 and decommissioned in 2404 so the lifespan of a ship is very short but like it’s stated on this video, there have been ships that have been in service more than 60 to 100 years. Even the luna class usa titán was destroyed and replaced by the uss titan-A. I just hope that the next enterprise is not a retro looking ship like the titán A or the new stargazer. From what I see at this late stage in PicIII, the Titan A is the new hero ship for Star Trek, and as an over 50 year fan of Star Trek, I am OK with that. My heroes have always been the characters. To say that Star Trek is not Star Trek without the Enterprise, is like saying Roy Rogers is not Roy Rogers without Trigger, or The Lone Ranger is Not the Lone Ranger without Silver. I dont see the point of destroying ships. Time jumps is also an overdone concept.

OMG. Those clips showing swooping, diving, hairpin turns and other total nonsense takes the edge off any worries of not having watched any NuTrek. I guess I was expecting progress away from childish depictions, not regression to a Saturday Morning Cartoon. Pure fantasy sci-fi geared to the lowest common denominator, bereft of any science fiction. Disappointed. Just not my bag I guess. Do sharks come out of the space tornados too?
