DBZ Sparking Zero May Launch Without Split Screen

- Those of you that grew up playing the Budokai Tenkaichi games will know how important split screen is. According to ShonenGamez on Twitter, the latest version may launch without one. This would continue the disappointing streak anime games have been on as of late, with games like Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections and Demon Slayer having lackluster features that ultimately turned fans off the games!

Damn, does that mean no Local Play? Aw hell naw
Looks that way as of now, man 😭
What's wild is that BamCo's other franchise, Gundam Vs., has splitscreen every release. Here's hoping they fix this soon after release.
Two player splitscreen and up to four/six players active no less.
Nah bro if i can’t run the fade with my younger brother and prove my dominance over him then there’s no point buying this😭
Fr😭😭
Luckily Tenkaichi Mods on Ps2 has some good substitutes if the game turns out to be a total bust.
I hope it does have splitscreen, but this is bamco we're talking about.
You could always just get the game for yourself
I remember reading an article saying that the decision for no split screen came from Sony and Microsoft wanting to prioritize selling more consoles. It’s halo 5/infinite all over again
It's such a L business practice. Whoever the big wigs were that decided it need to be named and shamed.
You say that but it’s probably gonna work and ps5 sales are gonna jump. It’s already jumping with stellar blade
Watch them blame the low sales on "lack of interest" instead of lack of features.
This game will sale million of times
I understand that split screen is a thing yall want back but we really gonna judge the WHOLE game based of that Missing?
@@futureelement924that’s what I’m saying if your gonna let no split screen be a deal breaker then ok but please stop bringing it up
It'll still sell like hot cakes. It's Tenkaichi. Everyone's getting this. It's just a little disappointing for the older people that remember offline gaming. It's still a day 1 purchase for me.
Buddy we're all bummed about no split screen but this game will sell millions at the worst lmao
No split screen is just another symptom of “modern gaming”. Hopefully the game won’t fall short in other areas.
The interview mentioned it, but you didn't really focus on this aspect: the fact that the devs mentioned troubles with the Xbox Series S leads me to believe that the ommission of local splitscreen might be a problem with console power. When a game does Splitscreen Multiplayer, it has to render the characters, stages, and special effects twice over. With how graphically intensive Sparking Zero looks, especially with all the Unreal Engine 5 upgrades, I'm not surprised that Xbox Series S could be holding back splitscreen at launch.
I do have a solution the devs could potentially do, but it might throw some players under the bus: They should release local splitscreen on every console BUT Xbox Series S. If that's the only console holding the feature back, then it doesn't need it. I know it sucks for Series S players, but you gotta make sacrifices for the greater good.
I agree, Rinsankajugin!
The Issue is that Microsoft wants the same features between bott consoles so no S splitscreen means none for X
So because Xbox S is an underpowered machine, every other version has to get neutered because of it?
Why did they even bother making the Xbox S if it's *that* unreliable... bloody he'll.
@blok--head7472 It is kind of a shame if they have to compromise with things on the Series S. Hopefully, they can get a split screen mode on the Series S anyway.
@@icemaster54isaac86Really hoping this is only a rumor.
But thats what I also thought about Tekken's fight pass.
Im done supporting namco, ever since tekken 8 it's clear they just prioritize quantity over quality and LOVE microtransactions
To the people that are defending the lack of splitscreen: What will you do when the servers are shut down or you deal with bad wifi and wifi warriors??
Highly doubt they will turn the servers off for a long time judging by the fact that RB2 servers are still on and that game has been out for over a decade. And I have good internet and so do my friends so I’m not worried about lag I mean it’s gonna happen cause lag is inevitable and I’m ngl fighting the cpu can sometimes be more fun than fighting online players and with how good the graphics are and the camera movement being the way that it is split screen would be to chaotic split screen is a want not a need
those people propably never touched grass or have friends to play with
@@TwinDragon163 fair enough
They'll probably just put the game down and move onto something else. Just another disposable product.
And yet they want to act like the moral arbiters over *real* old-school fans who feel cheated that a *BASIC* feature is being ommited for seemingly no reason.
Hate to sound all "doom and gloom" but this direction is what concerns me for gaming.
@@blok--head7472 not for this game especially since the devs know how important this game is to a lot of people

@@interwebkaiju might as well not even get it at all
Series S was a mistake. I get the point of it but fuck that. I don't understand how $300 is considered not that much but $500 is too much for people. Anything over $40 is already in the territory of "go hard or go home".
The problem with "quality tiers" is that Western low end entry levels are designed to be dogshit and replaced. Japanese low end stuff has typically been the mid-tier or premium equivalents in the Western while their actual premium stuff is the Gucci grade (look at the arcade stick market for an example of what I mean).
You can get a series s now for like 240 or 250 and that’s a refurnished one too and the series s does pretty much the same thing the series x can do maybe not at as high of a level but still it can do it and i personally think the Xbox series s was a good edition it does almost the same thing a series X does but at half the price
Now I dont think this is why theres no splitscreen, but I'm so sick of the Series S scapegoat from players and even devs on games that are coming to PC. You know, the platform with wildly varying specs. I have seen devs push out PC minimum requirement sheets that are below what the Series S can do yet theyll turn around and blame the Series S hardware instead of their garbage coding and optimizing abilities.
True
Yeah now people are just blaming the series s even if the series S couldn’t handle the split screen what’s stopping them from adding it to the other consoles and they bs excuse they gave it’s because of Microsoft and Sony sounds stupid cause even the newest tekken has local play
No split screen would be a huge loss. Won’t even feel like a tenkaichi without couch vs matches let alone 5v5’s. The music needs to have that feeling the old games gave as well. The music is gonna be so important
We need Lost Courage and Warrior From An Unknown Land in one game 🙏🏾
@@RealMikeHollow indeed. Modern remixes or at least the ability to use the old tracks would be dope. Hopefully it’s not relegated to dlc
@@RealMikeHollowOpen Wings from Tenkaichi2/Raging Blast would be pretty tight.
Not unexpected but definitely disappointed.
EDIT:
The sad part is, they could be giving us all this info to form a sense of communication with the community, and it could all turn out to be BS when the game drops.
If they do have the multiplayer, I won't give them credit for crossing the bar of every prior BT game though it would be nice.
I just hope that they make sure to have enough offline content like BT3 has, and please, for the love of God, actually make the AI difficult to fight. Games like Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections have AI that is so easy to beat, and even with the Demon Slayer game, it didn’t make a difference when you changed the difficulty setting, because even on very hard the AI wasn’t even a challenge. To add, even though these games are primarily online-based, BT3 can be played for hours upon hours offline because of how challenging the AI is and the sheer amount of offline content it has, like the Budokai tournament, survival mode and what-if scenarios.
Update, theres local multiplayer
Raging Blast Games on the Ps3 have Splitscreen!
Jus finally got the tenkaichi 4 mod and my goodness it's so good, modders perfectly captured the og game artstyle of bt3 with the added characters, its so cool
This is old news. We already knew that they're not going to implement local multiplayer. It has been stated a looong time ago. Maybe in the future as an update (hopefully) but definitely not during release unfortunately.
my BIGGEST gripe was how the beam clashes work, i didnt see any spinning joystick minigame during them or screen shake to accentuate the power of them(like i need to hear a thunderous clap when 2 beams collide with each other). instead they did this horrible static 360 camera spin that made me feel nauseous. i dont care if my controller gets joystick drift, i will win every beam clash and erase my best mate from existence.
😂😂😂 I hear what you're saying, bro, but in this economy I can't be paying for new DS5s every month cos of this game. Those things cost more than the damn games 😭
Aye, I loved spinning the joystick, but I'm not trying to waste my money on controllers lol
@@RealMikeHollow you ain't lyin😆
It isn't bad spinning the analog stick if you use your thumb and do it properly. That's my personal opinion.
First think i heard and im like are we really not linking up anymore for local combat? I dont like this my friend got a new for speed game and we couldnt play split screen
New era indeed. Halo used to have local co-op, dropped it with the new developers and Infinite ended up cancelling it.
What is so hard about just adding a split screen multiplayer mode? These gaming companies act like we’re asking for the impossible here.
😂 I can’t believe that’s it’s even a question. Games have had split screen since the beginning of time. Game developers making things harder then they need to be.
It could be a little difficult given how dynamic both the camera and movement are. There’s probably a way around it but still, figuring out the best way to incorporate features like this isn’t always as easy as it seems.
@@thelettucebarrel7784 so you’re telling me they could figure out how to make it work back in the early 2000’s but can’t do that in 2024 with advanced tech? Don’t make excuses for them.

Hopefully, the game has a split screen mode. I feel like it will end up having it, but if not, then hopefully, by demand, it will come as a free update.
Thanks for the videos mike, as always, take care, and all y'all.
Thank you, bro. Appreciate the support and take care of ya self too ☝🏾
Well thats how modern games work, they probably consider It a feature not worth investing It so It is what It is.
I hope we get a Burst Limit 2 next. It basically wasn’t until late in high school that I went back and looked up gameplay on the old budokai games and discovered charge cancels. Now those games get competitive. Tenkaichi 3 had parry spam.
Burst Limit was a gem. Absolutely loved it. With a few tweaks, it could have been one of the all time greats.
Burst Limit and Raging Blast were true hidden gems.
The fact people STILL want a Raging Blast 3 should show how beloved those titles were.
Wouldn't be surprised. Bamco loves to milk the fuck out of fans with their anime games. Gundam Evo being a really good recent example that I'm still mad about. Their greed was a big contributing factor to it dying as quickly as it did.
I don't expect Sparking Zero to die or suck but its still sad. My cousin still has his PS2 with all the Budokai and Tenkaichi games we would play all the time. They're fun games even if you can't appreciate them on a deep level.
No split screen at launch sounds way better to me compared to no split screen.
Let's hope they bring it and it doesn't get forgotten like the friend lobby's in Ninja Storm.
@@RealMikeHollow i really hope so, cause Even Connections tried to pick up the dirty pieces but it's already too late for most people to play that thing again

Man.....This basically confirmed what I said B4 about Developers wanting to do their best but publishers issues seem to get in the way. But I REALLY HOPE this is all here say they say. I am Super Friggin HYPE for this game but I have my worries. If they do am originally story, it would be cool to see something along the lines of Shin Budokai and DBFZ.
I hope they go back to the old camera angles from the original BT franchise.
I'm with you on everything EXCEPT the part about giving possible DLC characters a pass. All that season pass, battlepass, cosmetic, nickel and diming type bs in general stuff, etc. is why I stopped buying/playing (new) fighting games. With this game in particular, this type of bs is why I can't even be properly hyped for the game, because the realist in me knows that there is an extremely high likelihood that it will be bogged down by modern day gaming bs.
The only compromise is if they are collaboration type characters akin to Lars in that one Naruto Storm game. Other than that, I stand by my point - this type of nickel and diming bs needs to stop. You say they can't put every character in the game. However, if they did it in the older ones, there's zero valid excuses for them to not be able to do it now after all these years of advancements/improvements. Otherwise, giving these things a "pass" is exactly how we got here in the first place and why things keep getting worse.
People blaming this on the series S are beyond reproach and downright stupid LOL 😂😂😂. It’s insane to suggest series S can’t handle splitscreen while the ps2 and Wii can for the og games. Using Baldurs gate 3 as an example is also brain dead since they came out later and said it wasn’t even a real issue.
gimme my split screen
That's not an accurate point of comparison, those games weren't nearly as graphically intensive.
I mean Xbox can’t handle baldurs gate. It’s a pretty shit console lmao. They have all the power and no optimization. So many developers mentioned how much easier it is fro development on ps5 due to the system being optimized. The Xbox is terrible at optimizing that’s why the games are either shit or unplayable. I’m not suprised if they can’t get splitscreen

Yeah. I can’t imagine buying another storm game. They’ve all started to be complete cash grabs.
Wouldn’t believe split screen has anything to do with the desire to sell more consoles. The alternative to playing your sibling on split screen was never going to be to cop another console for that sibling.
Bruh gaming is DEAD dead. Everyone should learn to cherish the games that you like and never let them go because moving forward 90% of gaming will be cash grabs. It seems like devs aren't being allowed to make passion projects anymore unless they're indies. Long live THE ALMIGHTY BACKLOG!!!!!!

I don’t buy the Sony/microsoft excuse. There’s shit loads of games that still have split screen
"Tenkaichi 3 can be played at a competitive level," look I'm not downplaying the dedication or skill of the BT3 competitive playerbase, but it's much like Smash Brothers. As in, the intention of these games was never to be a top tier competitive title. You can push them farther than ever considered by the developers, but the dev team didn't design these to be on the level of a Street Fighter, a Tekken, or even an MK. I'd caution anyone wanting to take Sparking: Zero super seriously to temper their expectations.
It's a testament to the dedication and love these players have for their game that they've pushed what was never supposed to be a competitive title into something that can be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean the devs feel the same way nor should they.
Considering that local multiplayer even existing has to be brought into question regarding the game, it's clear the competitive element has never really been the or even a focus. So I'd caution everyone to keep their expectations of this game in check.
I just hope their is a ton of attention to detail like the old games
I've got super high expectations for this one. I hope the attention to detail is there as well.
Im okay without the split screen. You have to appreciate the graphics and the open battle stage at full screen
Yeah, it was expected. Not wanted, but expected, if it happens.
I don't have friends or family so this doesn't bother me , split screen also bothers some concentration
They said if they don’t have split screen then it’ll probably be an update or Free dlc.

I couldn’t care less bc I’m not effected but the splitscreen made it special back on ps2 with my brothers so it’s understandable why ppl complain but I think they will get it in before release after the „hate“
I'll definitely be getting it. It looks amazing.
Implementing split screen is not as simple just just draw a line on the screen n paste code in. U have take into account how the game itself is structured in terms of code implementation, dumping and loading assets as well as how the split screen could negatively affected that structure. For example halo 5 couldn't have split screen, because how the assets streamed in n out. Split screen would cause halo 5 to run well below targeted 60 frames. One positive to the exclusion of split screen it possible for developers to focus on ensuring better performance or other aspects of the game. A clear negative is u cant play with your buddy locally.
Ill just buy it on pc and get the splitscreen mod that there will inevitably be
Wasnt it announced already? They said that it was too difficult to implement.
but no one plays local multiplayer in 2024 i think people just want that out of nostalic thing the fact that even if it has local multiplayer im sure only 10% will play with their freinds or brother . in my opinion it doesn't matter because we have the online mode

This is why I hate these type of anime fighters. How the hell are we going to have a supposed fighting game like this without LOCAL VS splitscreen. This is so stupid, just make the camera sit to the side like Tekken and Street Fighter if you're not going to have split screen. This is awful. There goes any chance of this game having a competitive scene.
It isn't a problem with the genre, numerous games had split screen from the PS2, PS3, PS4 and GameCube.
It is a problem with the developer's priorities.

To be honest I don't really see the problem with split screen not being included and while it would be nice and nostalgic.
It would only serve that purpose because the vast majority of people that are going to be playing this game are going to be playing it online.
Think about it for a second. How many people would be playing split screen? How many people have people they can play slit screen with?
This generation of gamers doesn't really do local play very much and those players are Bandai's target demographic.
A good example of a pointless local multi-player mode was with another DB game. XV2 had a local multi-player, but how many people do you see playing it.
It's a negligible percentage of the player base at best and none at worst.
And you certainly do not want them to try and cram it in at the last second and risk lowering the quality of other aspects of the game.
This day and age online stability is the most Important aspect of any game that wishes to last for a while.
It's honestly a miracle that dragon ball xenoverse 2 lasted as long as it did with how GARBAGE the online is.
Split screen is not a necessity and it won't kill the game to be lacking the mode as long as the Online is GOOD and stable.
I... I really don't think it looks that good 😢
How comes? I think it looks amazing.
@RealMikeHollow I guess I was just expecting more... but I'm still gonna buy it lol.
No split screen will be unfortunate but the devs probably feel that split screen is a thing of the past. Online gaming has taken over but I can only imagine how lobbies will be in this game whether it’s through king of the hill or other match types. It should be interesting.
Online gaming has taken over but they won’t even have a beta let alone rollback to ensure the experience is good. In a twisted way these games often don’t prioritize people actually having the ability to fight each other.
Y'all keep saying that but they already told you what it is so why keep making these goofy videos about split screen.. they clearly said that it won't have it and gave you their reason for it. This generation is definitely not that bright

If it's like Tenkaichi 3 then it'll stand the test of time. Most of my friends have a mortgage, kids and have moved away, but when we link up we still run Tenkaichi 3. It's a timeless classic.
This is just another reason why arena fighters suck.
Good video, awful take. The old tenkaichi’s graphis were ok for its time, they weren’t beautiful. Sparking’s is beautiful. There is a reason when you see competitive play for none 2d games being played where each player has his own screen. Could we give each player a tiny box in the corner and battle it out that way? Yes, but it’s 2024, competitive players have their own setups with monitors and systems. Split screen for something like this is a thing of the past. That ish gave me a headache trying to follow that footage you showed, that’s probably why the guy lost. Devs should be showcasing their game the best way the current gen allows.
Arena fighters are some of the laziest gaming genres. I wont even download a pirate copy, not a penny from me they get.
I agree but a Tenkaichi remake, which is what this is, isnt like the generic arena fighter slop we've been getting (like the demon slayer game). The combat and 3D verticality separates it from the slop. And, the remake has much smoother animations than something like the Demon Slayer game, which was laughed at all over twitter for its awful animations, like the aerial animations
Play a good one like Gundam Vs. The real problem is that it is the stock genre for action based shonen series and that the quality for most since the PS3 are significantly worse than any Gundam Vs, Gotcha Force, Virtua On and even the better Budokai Tenkaichi titles.
Literally everyone I'd be playing this with would be online anyways so I dont necessarily care but it should be there for the sake of everyone else

I don't see what the big deal is if it lauches with split screen or not is fine with me. Split screen dead during the ps3 and 360 era theirs no need for it anymore when you can just call your friends to hop on to play.
Aside from killing the fun when you've got yours boys over, it also stops people from running local tournaments. Online will never be able to replicate the magic you create from offline gaming.
As a zoomer gamer: I truly dont see the big deal, Ive never played splitscreen, and If I play with friends its usually online, as I dont have many local friends, just online ones. Granted that could just be a me thing, I am fairly lonely.
However I feel like it shouldnt be that hard to include a splitscreen mode, they surely know a portion of their playerbase will buy it for it.
It's a big deal for this game because it was part of what made it so popular back in the day. Me and my boys were really excited when we heard this game was coming back because we wanted to get together and play offline/order some food and make a day of it. Not having this mode kills that. It also stops people from running local tournaments which are always exciting.
Yes thats a you thing, youve never experienced the joy of playing stuff with others in the same room. Online dont hit the same as being in the same place with offline splitscreen. Splitscreen is literally one of the reasons why the tenkaichi games were so popular
Y’all that want the split screen gotta realize ur kinda in the minority and devs aren’t gonna wast time and $ on something that maybe MAYBE 15% of people who buy the game will use, now it might come later but at this point most of us just want the damn game
Bruh most of us are not going over each others house to play games these days who
Cares I get it but it’s one of those things that these days is probably only used by like 15% of the playerbase
That's a bit shortsighted. Going to someone's house or vice versa? Local multiplayer. Someone ends up at a tournament by chance and can't afford online/the console/game? Local multiplayer.
It isn't just for social butterflies, parties or sleepovers as a kid. Street Fighter and Smash sold millions but it is hard to even track how many people played them without owning the system or an arcade board.
Dragon Ball is huge so I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of players for many titles never played online or only played with a buddy.
