Recovery efforts underway across Western North Carolina: Latest updates

- Western North Carolina is continuing to recover after the hurricane hit on the night of Sept. 26 and into the day on Sept. 27, bringing torrential rain and hurricane-force winds that brought down trees on powerlines.
Hundreds of thousands are still without power and water. We will continue with live updates throughout the day.
Henderson County remains in a State of Emergency, with the 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. curfew still in effect for the entire county.
Henderson County emergency teams continue to work calls and rescue across the county and ask residents to limit travel so crews can not only work emergencies but also Duke Energy crews can work on restoring power.
The county has launched an official hub to gather requests for donations and volunteer signups for local individuals and organizations.

How are the elderly and carless getting to distribution?
They need to pray…
How are people that lost their vehicles and stuff supposed to come and pick up these Goods it is very wonderful that you people are doing this but there are a lot of people that are helpless that do not have a way to get to these places to get this food and water
They can only get one day supply??
Check on your neighbors and lend a helping hand.
Also, how are people being notified of these services who are without power and cell service?
They should pray more…

Barnardsville/weaverville/burnsville/spruce pine got hammered. They’re on their own at this point. All the trees on new stock rd were cut by residents.

It looks like people are dry in that Asheville parking lot. They can actually drive and waste gas. Get out in the hills and mountain areas and hand out some food and water. The real emergency is not just in Asheville.
And what about all the animals are there people giving out dog food and stuff for them or are they just forgotten like normal
How much help are the people up in the mountains getting? My friend in Clyde NC said that the roads and bridges are gone, and they can't leave their flooded homes. They need food and water too!!!

I live 10 minutes from Clyde the destruction is unbelievable and sadly Asheville is getting most of the help and leaving the rest of us on the sidelines

I can tell you that hot springs is having a go of it, downtown is basically gone but they are banding together behind some very amazing people. They have gotten some air drops of food from World central kitchen and the road to newport was open earlier to get groceries and gas.

I wish there were a volunteer group organizer to go help clear up roads so that service line workers can get to power lines and fix them without having to wait on or clearing the trees themselves. Maybe in the future we can have a group or groups that are willing to do manually labor to clear roads and driveways for people in need.
The reason that the mission now is still search and rescue, they try to account for people. There are other non profit organizations.

What about Jackson and Transylvania counties? Those folks are more isolated anyway. Has anyone bothered to go check on who needs help there? What about Nantahala??? I see the uber-focus on Buncombe county hasn’t changed in the last 30 years, just saying. God bless Chef Andres-I hope they make it into the remote counties where so many bridges are just gone, and those people can’t get out or reach anyone.

Where is your military? Why are there no military airplanes that can establish mobile flying communication networks, airdrop supplies, or Black Hawks? Why is Starlink equipment not dropped from choppers for a satellite connection? What about the National Guard?
What is going on in your country! If you are trapped in a house with no water, no communication, and you are hurt and the car is gone, how the heck do you get those people help?
Is there any way I could help from here in Switzerland? Where can we send money, to what organization?

But without power and internet service, how are the people getting informed about where help may be? They can't just turn their tv on or search the internet 😢😢😢 So they're completely cut off and suffering 😢😢😢
All the fuel tanks are full of water and mud, they will have to be replaced because no way can they be cleaned properly 😢😢😢
It will take many months or longer to cleanup and restore all of the supermarkets and grocery stores that were destroyed, and they have to locate, buy and install all new refrigeration cases for all foods that need to be refrigerated because when such equipment is flooded it normally is not reuseable.
