  • I've been getting some stick for not featuring anything less than 100hp on the channel, so I duly booked in Honda's updated CB500F, now called the CB500 Hornet. Join me on an errand to fetch some specialist hand equipment as I'm surprised by what the little Honda delivers. Bit of a vlog this one, but full review will be along soon.

Have one 3 months now and love it. Didn't want anything bigger as im going down cc getting to that age. The fuel economy is awesome and it is great fun to ride. Owned a 1998 600 hornet back in the day and just seem to be going full circle

There’s an awful lot of us 50 plus old fart, ex fireblade / GS pilots having an awful lot of fun on these CB500 models. Glad you liked it 😁

I've always loved Hornets and used to own a 2005 Hornet 600. The old shape with a classic round headlight was a million times better looking than the modern ones

Not sure why you would buy this at £6,200 when the 750 Hornet costs £7,300 and can be restricted to A2 compliance. You'd lose far more than £1,100 in depreciation when trying to sell this bike after buying it new.
The paint on my black 750 Hornet is very poor. Tried to make a warranty claim on the tank paintwork at 1,300 miles and less than 3 months old and the response was that it's normal wear.

That seems very strange pricing from Honda - just over £1K more for a bike with twice the power! The Transalp is £2K more than the NX500 which separates them out a bit more. Possibly the effect of upping the spec with TFT etc.

Some dealers are selling the 750 for £6800 IMHO the 500 doesn’t make sense cost wise however I’m sure Honda will still sell some.

Goes to prove. All bikes are awesome. I have always had a soft spot for the Honda cb500 after passing my test on one a few more moons I wouldn’t wish to remember ago. It has more go than you would expect.

You know what, sometimes it’s quite refreshing riding a smaller bike. I remember years ago when I was unemployed riding a CB250RS around. Have to say it was a load of fun.

Just got an NX for my daughter and have been doing the boring break-in for her (also known as nicking the bike to blat around on). I was properly surprised how nice the engine and suspension are on these 500s. First 500 I've ridden in 20 years and now it's got me considering chopping in one of my 1200s for something smaller.

Nice one mate, I watch for the entertainment. I must say, it’s great to see, high end tyres on low cost bikes! This is a revelation.👍🏻

Oo thanks! Didn't realise that car park had a motorcycle bay. Can now nip into Gails in the high street to pick up something delicious, fattening and very expensive. 👍

Is the +10% and 3 legit? So that would be 80 on the motorway?

It’s a bit of an old wives’ tale to be honest. But there are margin for error, plus your speedo will overread anyway!

I’m sure it’s a very nice CB500, but Honda putting the Hornet name on a twin cylinder bike is just sacrilegious 🤨. (And yes, I’m a grumpy old fart 😆.)

I agree, and I've bought a 750 "Hornet". Great bike but it's not a Hornet.
