Roy Orbison had an amazing voice, and who couldn't love SCTV. Never see talent like this ever again, music and comedy
💯 sctv was the best. And Roy was an absolute legend.
I know lots of people loved his voice, but I just don't. His trebly warbly vibrato reminds me of Buffy St Marie, whose wobbly voice I also dislike.
"Pretty Woman" is a great song, for sure. And Roy Orbison is a legend, without question.
I just don't like his voice..
@@squirrelbutler2119So, I'm curious, after describing all that you did, did you like his voice? 😂
@@seamusin1697 Oh, God, no!
No, I hate his voice
Warbly like Buffy Sainte Marie
Awful
Sure miss this guy. Heck of a jam session going on in the great beyond.
I loved SCTV, never knew he did a guest spot. Fantastic!
Roy was the Guy …. Phenom 😎😎😎
Was für ein toller Sänger ich vermisse deine Songs mitt dir ,lieber Roy Orbison,,Dankeschön für die Erinnerung ❤
What a gem SCTV was
Loved Roy Orbison and still do. The musical guests on Second City always were in a skit which I loved. I remember Dave Thomas's brother Ian Thomas was on with his band and they goofed around a lot.
I remember watching SCTV. They had musical guests like SNL but on SCTV they actually did skits along with the cast. I loved that show.
Never a bad sketch. Always head on comedy. Very creative.
Great song great singer
SCTV was a House of Comedic Souls, let the chaos unleash to the Americas'
Eugene Levy is hilarious here
Ser chamado de Caruso do Rock é uma Honra. Até Elvis Presley admirava as 8 oitavas na voz do eterno Roy Orbinson.
Era um verdadeiro Tenor do Rock.
Obrigado.
The tambourine man was giving 110%.
My favorite show. My favorite singer.
Mercy!
This is great! Thanks very much for uploading it to share with us. I love Roy!! Sweet, funny and he can sing, too!

Greetings from Portugal,

pure sound of unedited music. dont get that these days anymore..
SCTV was brilliant, thanks.
Only show on TV that was cool enough to have Roy. Yeah.
Mel's Rock Pile. Not too bad.
It's good to see Roy and great to see that he wasn't treated like some nostalgia act. I was surprised
to see Roy do "Working For The Man", a good tune that certainly isn't one of his best known.
Cool…I wasn’t expecting to see the real Roy. I thought Dave Thomas or someone…nice surprise!
Just so damn good...
awesome! I felt the same way when the Tubes made an appearance on the show.
Love Roy Orbison /
Adorable video, and, of course, wonderful performance as always!...
Terrific memories! I'm grateful for the post!
Thanks for sharing. I love this!
It took me 20 years to realize Roy Orbison wasn't blind.
He was actually a very talented welder.
Man that was great! Thanks for sharing.
this is a proper youtube comment. no whining about 40-odd year old canadian tv sound quality, or any other negativity, just a very nice thing to say. I thank the person responsible for this as well. it is great. thank you!
Awesome and hilarious!!!!!
amazing
Hola ,soy Rosy de Gran Canaria ,yo subi esta maravilla ,y para compartir todos que amamos Al Gran Roy Orbison🎸🎸🎶🎶🎵
A class act!
Great stuff
Great video my friend ;)
This was Mel's Rock Pile a regular skit on SCTV for those curious.
I noticed on Roy's Fender guitar that the jack plug is in a different spot, unlike where it is located normally.
America is cool 😎 like Roy 👍 😅
This is Canada though.
He was only 45 during this guest-spot. It's a crying shame what smoking did to such a phenomenal talent, contributing to his death 7 years later.
Didn't he die of heart failure?
Heart-attack, more specifically. He had a habit of rapid weight-loss before recording/tours, plus he smoked, so that left him physically vulnerable, leaving the world at only 52.
He may have died young, but he surely made something in the time he had.
Horrible family history of heart issues too.
@@PhantomMarquis only 52? That's nuts! I just turned 50. I got to see him in concert just before his big comeback. I was volunteering as an usher.
SCTV when Late Night comedy was funny and entertaining.
❤❤❤
I don't ever recall seeing the second song.
He was, IMO, the best musical guest they had. Other than Mr. Mambo, of course.
Doc Ock Rocks!
Man! What a KILLER bass player! Who is he?
Fun fact - Roy Orbison was the grandfather of the Ramones. and check out his Chewbacca impression at - 2:57
If God can sing, he sounds like Roy Orbison.
With Waylon Jennings backing him up
Eugene the human bobblehead
What year was that black and white footage from? By the look of Roy Orbison, it could have been 1969. Any ideas?
I think it's from the same time as the rest of it.
80s.
Movie magic.
that was awesome but they shouldve made the vocals a bit louders they're kind of overstepped by the drums & the guitars
this is a 40-odd year old tv show performance. want better quality sound, listen to the record.
Download & play in VLC with Equalizer, Compressor, Spatializer - or an EQ App - addon instead
I watched this show live in 1981, at 1AM on a Saturday night, on a 1979 13 inch RCA color television with a monophonic 6 inch speaker. Watching it on DVD 40 years later on a flat panel TV hooked up to a nice stereo system, is something the technicians probably hadn't planned for, but it sounds great to me and even better off of the DVD.
Help me SCTV fans, please !!
There is a scene where Guy Caballero is watching something he doesn’t like and starts saying,,, “ I don’t like this I don’t like this I’m a scared ,,,,,,,,,, then rubs his hands all over all over his face while making booba booba bluba bluba sounds……….
I thought it was the ZONTAR episode but I’m mistaken because I watched Zontar on my DVD looking for that scene a few years ago and my buddy watched it a few days ago online looking for it and it ain’t there.
HELP if you can.
It’s buggin’ me.
ANY info. at all would be greatly appreciated.
2packs4sure - I don't know the name of the episode... But I think the scene you're thinking about occurs with the energy ball that sucks up and traps the sctv characters/stars. Guy Cabellero was watching a security feed on the tv of the energy ball and that's when he was freaking out. Andrea martin's character (she portrays the short lady in poltergeist I think) destroys the energy ball by ramming it with a forklift.
Just looked it up... It was the sweeps week episode if you remember that.
Funniest shoe ever. Sctv
More cowbell
was Michael Anthony doing some side gigs back then? dude on the bass could pass for him..
The band all look like they were cloned from Dukes of Hazzard DNA.
That was the look of the ever-so-clueless-about-punk American bass player of the time.
Is that Michael Anthony on the bass?
I just thought the same thing..

I read that roy had a problem with random unwanted erections during public performances, and this was one occasion he happened to spring a stiffy backstage prior to taping his performance. Wonder if Barbara helped him with that problem before singing here?
Wow...I did not know this. I have the opposite problem but I don't want to burden you with my issues.
How do I post those crying faces?
Where did you read this? It's not true
That's about the stupidest thing I ever heard.
4 people don't like women.
Eugene seemed very annoying.
I thought Roy Orbison was 105 when he died. He was 52. I was off by 53 years. Cut me some slack, he looks like walking death in the clip.
Roy Orbison underwent triple bypass surgery in 1977. He was said to be a chain smoker from the days of his teens.
Yeah buddy, that's his real hair . .
