Back in the day...there was only AM radio...many stations were static...when FM came out out with a stronger signal..the radio stations didn't fade in and out...something your generation never delt with brother

Yep, just what I was thinking, this generation won't understand the transition from am radio and FM taking over the airwaves in the late 70's.

That’s it!! FM was the bomb!! AM was out! No static at all in FM. Crisp and clear

I grew up in the 50s and 60s. All we had was an AM radio and any time there was thunderstorms in the area that static was constant and many other devices would cause static such as power tools or other appliances. When I finally got a component tuner that had "FM" there were only two FM stations then in Memphis, TN and both played exclusively classical music.
I wasn't into Classical music then but the signal was pure and had "no static at all". By the late 1960s, several new FM stations came on including "FM-100", which played modern popular music including Rock.
Of course the "no static at all" had a different meaning in this song which was clever. Steely Dan produced some of the best music of the 70s and 80s. the music was always excellent and produced well.

@@swinde But at night you could listen to AM stations hundreds of miles away.

I used to do that as well. I lived in Memphis, TN. I would listen to WLS, Chicago at night.

Steely Dan lyrics, as I KEEP pointing out, are street-level AF!!! 💯😎
It sounds like jazz... but listen to it like some gangsta shit. For real! Because THAT'S what it means.

The no static is about. Fm radio station was just starting to spread because then all the music was AM and it was static

Pete Christlieb played tenor sax on this record. Other SD band mates who played tenor sax throughout their discography were S. Victor Parson, Preston Frazier, John Lawyer and used others when touring as needed. Got to see them in Virginia Beach, VA just b4 Walter Becker passed back in 2017..... the quality of the sound was absolutely AMAZING!. Donald Fagen is a beast! Great reaction, TY. My favorite song is Babylon Sisters. Albums of honorable mention would have to be Gaucho and Aja, but all of their albums are great.

📻 I feel so old knowing that FM radio only came into true being when I was a young teen. Before, we listened to all the hits of the day (mid 60's to very early 70's) on AM on our 9V transistor radios and car radios, full of static and Mono sound.
FM changed Everything!!! And in Stereo! 🎛🎧

    The lyric is:
"Give her some f**ed up Muzak (elevator music), she treats you nice" (doesn't come across)
"Feed her some hungry reggae, she'll love you twice."
And to "worry" something is to use it hard.
