Great board.....MSI are up there as top board suppliers at the moment in my opinion and looks like they are continuing to do so through to the B550 chipset and higher ! At around £60 quid its a steal especially with all these features and of course the bigger BIOS. Thanks for sharing 🙂
yes agreed, i have had my share of issues with asus and gigabyte, MSI for me has been really good other than the amazon warehouse ones that were way to cheap to work properly
mATX case yesterday, mATX motherboard today, starting to see a trend here! Great video, thanks Mike. Small is Beautiful.
anyone would think a MATX build was in the making
Great review as always Mike and Kath. I bought two of these and sold one to a friend. I'm running mine with a 3200G and 16Gig's of DDR4-3200 RAM. I've been an MSI fan for years. They are the only motherboards I buy. Take care. Cheers
yes i am getting to the point of almost all the boards i buy or use are MSI now
I think the VRM concerns are a little overstated if you install a downdraft CPU cooler, there are some good cost effective ones out there with 4-5 heat pipes. Personally I'm going to use a side door fan blowing across the motherboard and a cost effective tower cooler because I always plan for a side door fan. Ancient technology I know but the engineers of the time knew what they were doing.
if it works it works, that is the engineers way
Wow, Mike... great find for 15 pounds! It will be interesting to see what you can do with this board!
the case from yesterdays video and this will be a perfect pairing
Nice review Mike and what a bargain price! The brown finish/lack of rgb wudnt matter with budget case and asdume give better durability than A320. At what point do you need big heat sinks, heavy gaming or media creation? D'ters PC has MSi A320M / R3 1200 / RX570 and seems just fine for her needs. Thanks for reviewing, trust you are all on the mend by now👍
thanks Nick, still a bit under the weather, kath seems to be the worst of us now, but thanks for asking and hopefully we will be back to full speed soon.
So glad we recorded a ton of videos for when we go ill, really took the pressure off
"I don't think we need TPM at the moment"
Windows 11: _Allow me to introduce myself_
so.is that mean this MSI have no integraded TPM ?
I like the msi Pro range. Running the a520m Pro a and it's big brother the b550 a pro. Both are rock solid, and stable. Not the prettiest boards to be fair but they do everything you need well for a good price.
With the pro boards it really is a matter of horses for courses. When I was considerably younger, free and single I would have looked down on them. Then bought the chip with best price to overclock ability gotva board to match and spent ages squeezing every last bit of performance out of it.
Now I'm older, have a young family and a full time job, I just want something that's got decent features out of the box, which will work reliably with no hassle at a decent price. The MSI Pro boards and to a less degree some gigabyte ultra durable boards have donee exactly what I needed in the last few years.
yeah george our son has an older B350 pro -a board i think it is and that has been running a 2700x and 1080 for a good 5 years now
no addressable rgb means I cant control the color of the rgb fans, right ? Im new with all that stuff and planning to build my first pc soon, great video 👍🏼
That is correct
could i put a gddr6 1660 super in this motherboard?
yes
i went for that latest Tomahawk max 2 B450 ATX , 73 bucks for a fully featured ATX board was an absolute steal couple of months ago
nice board, hope it serves you well
Yes it is a steal and mine came with the bios for ryzen 5000 series processors out of the box.
This mobo is pretty as such but a pain to get real tech audio working for speakers (not plugged in issue). The app needed to switch front panel audio off to the get the rear working is a pain in the ass.
Any idea how to get 5.1ch working?
You need to combine the front panel audio and rear ports for 5.1 I think
Looks a decent board but i would like at least two case fan headers as well as the CPU fan header. You can use a splitter but it's frustrating. I would also like another M.2 slot as well as most motherboards support two these days. The board is fine for very budget uses but I would recommend spending a little more for a better board personally.
yeah a few more fan headers would be good on this board and the extra m.2 would be sensible now in 2021 /2022 but in 2017 when it was designed m.2 was hardly used, time is going ot be rather unkind to b350 and others in that era
Hi - so glad I found this channel!. I am a geriatric gamer doing wow/FF and destiny 2 / planetside / battlefield and watching films on my PC. I need to refresh it soon as I'm using a Gigabyte z90 I5 with an old nvidia 9600 which works fine for 1080p. My problem is storage. I have 3 x SSDs and 6 by HDs (4 &6TB). Some are attached via external USB and some via internal SATA and a MZHOU PCIe SATA Card. As the video card market is still FUBAR I was thinking of going with an AMD 5600G so I had fallback to at least watch films if my nvidia card died. The B450M has only 4 SATA slots though so was looking at the B550-A PRO with the MZHOU PCIe SATA Card. Any adverse thought on that ?
the b550-a pro is a very good board and will do the job nicely
Is its durability good? The use would be with a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 1050 ti.
Would I need to buy heatsinks for the VRMs?
no that should be fine if it is well ventilated
@@mikesunboxing thanks for answering.
Can it run 3600mhz ram on XMP? It's a Crucial ballistix that i plan to use with a ryzen 3600.
it might, 3200 is easy but 3600 straight off is down to the tracks and controller
Yep - my setup is running without issue with 3600 sticks XMP and with a Ryzen 9 3900X: pcpartpicker.com/user/DayAfter/saved/W4LVcf
so when installing to i remove the prongs on the motherboard shield protector thing or nah
not sure what parts you mean there sorry, could you elaborate
it you mean the IO shield no leave those as they will compress against the motherboard
I was looking for a cheap good motherboard for my new 5600g. This board was 160$cad, which was too much for what this board offer imho. I went with an Asrock B450M PRO4. Since the 5600g don't support pcie gen4, no need for b550 or x570. Plus, it has cooler on the vrm 😁I upgraded my main computer with 4x16gb 3600cl16 memory so I reused the 4x8gb in 2 computer, one being the 5600g and this cpu is really good! I guess cheap board are used for mining Raptoreum because they are more expensive than 2 weeks ago it seems!
yes these boards seem to WILDLY differ in prices around the flat earth 😉
My friend has this board with a ryzen 5 2600 and is unable to overclock it past 3.7 ghz at any voltage is there something we are doing wrong?
well the all core is about that, this board has pretty weak power delivery so don't expect too much from it, also could be lower quality silicon for the processor or has gotten slower with age as is well documented
I have this motherboard running with a ryzen 5 3600 and a RTX3070 . Does it make sense to install a Ryzen 7 5800x on it?
yes sure, just get a decent cooler and keep the VRMs cool
@@mikesunboxing any recommendation on the cooler?
@@shiftycs thermalright PA120
I have this motherboard as well. I'm thinking to upgrade my CPU to 5700x from 3100. Would the motherboard support it despite the weak VRM? Thank you
It will work just don’t expect heavy loads to be at their best
You need put fansIf you need a couple of fans for the vrms because that mobo was not designed for that cpu and when you update the bios it does recognize the cpu but the chipset gets too hot
Noob here. I have this board and i want to put pwn ez diy fans, is this not possible and will the DC version only work? Thanks!
either can work, just change the fan header in the BIOS to either PWM or DC depending on the type of fan connected
I have shorted VRM. How to repair?
desolder and repalace
@@mikesunboxing i dont know whats to replace? the CPU 12V pins are shorted but I can not find the issue with the mosfets
Not a cheap MOBO in Australia regular price $119 is nearly identical to the cheapest B550 Mobo - Gigabyte B550M H AM4 mATX Motherboard $119-$129
yeah that is insane pricing
Can you tell me which is the better motherboard when compared to this one?
matx or atx? are you limited to a size?
@@mikesunboxing No size is doesn't matter.

My friend, I have a A320M Asrock with an 1600AF and I would like to get this new motherboard because I'm felling a lot of stuterring with my new RX 6600 8GB. Do you think that my A320M is bottlenecking the rest of my pc performance?
the board and processor are going to be slightly holding the card back due to PCIe gen 3 speeds and the 1600AF is getting a little old now, still a good cpu and also would be interesting to see if you have updated the chipset drivers for the motherboard
@@mikesunboxing You're right! But unfortunately the PCI-E 4.0 motherboards here in Brazil costs about 5x more than a B450M... I bought the R5 3600 and I'm waiting it. Lets see if this solves the problem
@@magichatake Let us know :-)
please your suggestion : comparing MSI B450M PRO M.2 MAX vs Gigabyte B450M S2H vs Gigabyte B450M Gaming.. which one is morre durable in term of heatsink-VRM /withstand minor OC
here is a link to the VRM setups on all current B450 boards for you to compare docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d9_E3h8bLp-TXr-0zTJFqqVxdCR9daIVNyMatydkpFA/htmlview#gid=639584818
@@mikesunboxing thank you.. i am reviewing AsRock b450 pro 4 r2 now.. Bless you bro!
will it work with a Ryzen 5 5600?
yes it will
How can I update the Bois on this Board MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX there is no flash button on this board. I am using a Ryzen 5 5600G.
you need to install an older processor that is supported by the bios you have or take it to a shop to get flashed
hi does it support ryzen 5 7600x? And how?
no that is a totally different socket type sorry
Does this board sport m.2 gen 4
Does this board sport m.2 gen 4
no not in speed, it will work but at gen 3 speeds
what's the temperature of the VRMs on full load with a processor like 3600?
not sure exactly and it will depend on other factors like cpu cooler and ambient temps but this board will handle that chip easily
This board was obviously designed with downdraft CPU cooler in mind. There are some cost effective downdraft 4-5 heat pipe designs out there.
Hi, would a 5600x be ok with this board despite the lack of vrm cooling?
yes that will work okay after a bios update if the board is a little older stock
@@mikesunboxing was gonna ask the same, thanks
@@XQE19 No problem :-)
At £50 this seems like good value.... if you managed to win it for £15 it's becomes an absolute steal!
To be honest even if it was only an mediocre/average board, who would care at £15?
i am still rather amazed it worked
MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX will this support a Ryzen 7
yes it will
İs that board suitable with ryzen 7 5700x with 3200 mhz ram and rtx 3060ti
not really the best choice but would work, you would be better served with a B550 or X570 for the best performance
How would I update the Bios on this?
There is a video on that I think
what about gigabyte b450m s2h ?
that is also a pretty good option
@@mikesunboxing oh okay
Hi, Mike. I'm going to buy an MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX II for my Ryzen 3 3200G and toss the Gigabyte mobo in the trash where it belongs.
gigabyte boards are very hit and miss these days
@@mikesunboxing This one only lasted a few months. I still have a MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon with a Ryzen 1600 in it that been working fine for nearly 5 years.
Support comment 🙂
You are the best
NOOOOO NOOOOOO DONT GET IT ITS A FUCKING PEASE OF SHIT I USE IT AND IT TELLS YOU THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WHEN THERE ISNT IT ONLY ALLOWS 2666 ram speed
mine runs 3200 or 3600 with the right CPU easy, sure you aren't doing something wrong or just have a faulty one?
