Canary in a Coalmine is my favorite Police song. It’s up tempo, fun and that guitar just sounds awesome. Sting is kickin it on bass too. What a fun song. Favorite album by them as well. Never really got into the Police that much but do really like this album, ZM.
Fantastic show here!! I love it when you have Martin, and Pete on. You guys have great Chemistry between you, and you always have great topics. Fantastic!!!!
All 5 albums are great, my tastes have changed slightly over the years, some were almost too close to call for me. Looking forward to this one guys! 5. Zenyatta Mondatta 4. Ghost in the Machine 3. Syncronicity 2. Regatta de Blanc 1. Outlandos d'Amour
I've really been getting into The Police lately. I never heard past the radio hits until the last few months. So far, Ghost in the Machine is the one I keep going back to.
That's short but sweet distillation of the magic of The Police, elements of many disparate music styles, melded together with incredible uniformity, dexterity and vision, all three members completely integral to the bands success. When I go back and listen to The Police nowadays, I hone in on Copeland's incredible drum work - friggin' brilliant! This is music for ALL to enjoy! Sting solo career is stellar as well - that voice!
Regatta de Blanc is one of my top ten albums, Zenyatta Mondatta is a close second for me. There are a few tracks I liked off the first album. I actually brought Ghost in the Machine back to the record store. Syncronicity never grabbed me, of course there are a couple of tracks I liked, but not enough to buy the album.
Been a fan since Regatta..it's so difficult to rank the albums they are that good..Zanyatta has become my go too listen lately..it's brilliant from start to finish,Bombs Away just makes want to get up and do a daft dance.
Awesome show here boys! I officially subscribed 🤟😎🤟 I like how if you had tuned into either SoT or some of Martin’s stuff, they covered The Police ranking already but it was like three years ago. Sometimes over time your tastes change or you give albums another look. Police are one of my faves too. Not really a bad album, but Here’s my list. Cheers! 1, Regatta de Blanc 2. Synchronicity 3. Ghost in the Machine 4. Outlandos d’Amor 5. Zenyatta Mondatta
This was hard... a lot of Great material on just 5 albums my #1 album has never changed and my favorite song isn't on any album, Fallout. still have my 45! with that said, here we go... 5. Syncronicity 4. Regatta de Blanc 3. Ghost In The Machine 2. Outlados d'Amore 1. Zenyatta Mondatta
1. Reggatta de Blanc (daring, adventurous, great record) 2. Zenyatta Mondatta (very consistent record with classic Police sound) 3. Ghost in the Machine (good ska influenced record) 4. Outlandos d'Amour (good debut) 5. Synchronicity (basically a pop record, EBYT is terribly cheesy) I used to like the hits better now I like deeper cuts better.
Thanks for a great show! I still believe that the second side of Ghost is my favorite. To piggy back on what Martin was talking about with the horns, they brought them out on tour. It kind of detracted from the sound of the Police in my opinion.
Not much consensus in show or comments- cool! Interesting Martin take that mix between the unique Dire Straits and reggae. Despite so much diversity, very few songs don't excel or at least have interesting parts. 5) Outlandos 4) Synchronicity 3) Zenyatta 2) Ghost 1) Regatta. Extremely strong catalog. Thanks much guys!
There is an Eric Bloom (BOC) interview out there where he mentions Sting at a party told him he lifted Don't Fear The Reaper for his Message In A Bottle. I was binge watching I wouldn't know where to find it.
I always try to do my rankings before I watch any ranking videos, so here goes: 5. Zenyatta Mondatta 4. Ghost in the Machine 3. Synchronicity 2. Outlandos D'Amour 1. Regatta de Blanc
Police's career is similar to Simon and Garfunkel's. Both made only 5 studio albums . Only reunited for live performances. Both Simon and Sting had the successful solo careers. Both broke up at the height of their popularity.
Nice show gentlemen. Klark Kent (aka Stuart Copeland) Kollected Works better than ANY Police album. (In my opinion) If you have $245 bucks to spare, that's the current price for cd from Amazon.
Points for Monsieur Popoff! I also love “Mother” and “Miss Gradenko” a great deal. “Mother” is such an odd song, but l dig it anyway. Also, the guitar solo from Summers is quite excellent! “Tea in the Sahara” and “Walking in Your Footsteps” always meandered, and are the low points on the album for me. 5. Ghost in the Machine (Really like the first three & the last two songs, the other half of the album is okay.) 4. Synchronicity (I stated the tracks l disliked above and some of the hits are overplayed.) 3. Zenyatta Mondatta (A very consistent record through Andy’s instrumental “Behind My Camel.” After that, the release kind of trails off.) 2. Outlandos d’Amour (What a cracking debut! A hard hitting album full of rocking tunes and some left turns.) 1. Reggatta de Blanc (It’s always been my favorite Police elpee. It’s a bit all over the place, but that’s just the charm of the three cats at their core. “Message” & “Moon” might be overplayed, but they’re still bitchin’ tunes! My four highlights all come on side two of the vinyl: “On Any Other Day,” “The Bed’s Too Big Without You,” “Contact” & “Does Everyone Stare.” Three Stew songs?! Yes! Besides his incredible drumming skills, l like his unusual songwriting as well. In fact, when I saw the trio on the 2007 reunion tour, I was mainly watching Copeland behind the kit with my binoculars.) Keep up the groovilicious, nutritious and delicious work, men. Cheers from Noo Yawk, ova heyah. Rock Out & Prog On! An underrated Rush song is “Marathon!” ~ Davey Cretin, AKA Chauncey Marwood Oglethorpe III
Hard to say really. Every album has really good songs and some just ok songs. Sting's solo stuff is the same, some real gems surrounded by just alright stuff. Nothing horrible but some songs are like favorites of all time level.
The first cassette tape I bought from The Police was GITM , I liked that song SITMW, I never really paid any attention to the first three albums until later, then I was already for Synchronicity, I loved that album then they broke up WTF, I remember hearing FAYH later and thinking The Police have a new album coming out...wrong LOL
Wow. My list is TOTALLY different. I think Ghost In The Machine is their only masterpiece. The first 2 albums are just meh. 1. Ghost in the Machine 2. Zenyatta Mondatta 3. Regatta De Blanca 4. Synchronicity 5. Outlandous D’Amour
I love the first three albums after which the sound became more produced, slicker with added keyboards etc. and I lost interest. The same happened to Dire Straits.
Strange how The Police had such cool music, yet Sting solo to me was always a big bore. First new Police release I ever bought was Ghost in the Machine when it came out, that's still my #1. There's a new documentary on A&M Records featuring the likes of Styx and Supertramp as well as other bands on the label (leaving out many like Bryan Adams or The Tubes), one of the A&M bosses regards The Police and Sting the overall most important artists of the label's history.
Not a big fan, but it's hard to ignore how great they play on these records. Quality-wise not much difference between them, though I could swap 4 with 5 and also 2 with 3 pretty easy. But on gut instinct: 5. Ghosts... 4. Outlandos... 3. Reggatta... 2. Zenyatta... 1. Synchronicity
I've been a Police fanboy since 1980 and this ranking of albums comes up all the time and can never be resolved as they all have something very special. I think the way to approach it is which album can be dropped if we could only pick 4. I came to the conclusion Outlandos would be the least expensive to legacy, even with Roxanne on the album. There are too many great tracks on the other 4 albums and they would take a legacy hit if they dropped any of them. I used to think Synchronicity was the best, but I came to the conclusion that was 80% due to 1 monster song, EBYT. Take that off and the album isn't that strong imo. I think GITM would probably have to go down as their best album if I had to pick 1.
Difficult catalog to rank. All of these albums are good to great, but none are perfect. The sheer volume of hit singles arrayed on each album makes it hard to put these in an order. I will do my best: 5. Zenyatta Mondatta - Three great songs (Don't Stand...When The World Is Running Down...Voices Inside My Head) the rest is not all that memorable. 4. Outlandos d'Amour - The energy is there, but the songs are lacking. 3. Regatta de Blanc - Great sound. Much more polished than Outlandos. Message In A Bottle and Walking On The Moon are incredible. 2. Ghost In The Machine - Spirits In The Material World is brilliant. A darker album with interesting production flourishes. 1. Synchronicity - I love the more pop oriented flavor of this album. It is beautifully produced. Synchronicity II and King Of Pain alone are worth the price of admission.
The police were awesome. Stewart Copeland was great and they had their own unique style. Sting killed the band and he had a couple mediocre solo albums and hasn't played anything worth a shit in 35 years. He lost his ballz and the rock and roll. Jazzy, avant garde bullshit is not good for sting. I saw him on a late night show a few years back and it was his same no ballz nonsense. Regatta de Blanc is their best. I liked zenyatta mendatta for years but their is some just depressing deck on that album.
The Police are 5 for 5 for me. Great catalog with interesting range and growth. This was a fun conversation to listen to. Great job guys. 👏👏👏
1. Synchronicity
2. Zenyatta Mondatta
3. Ghost in the Machine
4. Reggatta de Blanc
5. Outlandos d'Amour
My Favourite Band Of All Time! 🎵

Love all the Police albums. Think those guys worked magic for 5 albums straight.
Fantastic show here!! I love it when you have Martin, and Pete on. You guys have great Chemistry between you, and you always have great topics. Fantastic!!!!

I love them all though. Very tough to rank.
I've really been getting into The Police lately. I never heard past the radio hits until the last few months. So far, Ghost in the Machine is the one I keep going back to.
Great discussion gents. For me, nothing beats Synchronicity but fortunately, we all differ in our opinions!
love zenyatta, canary is such a great track....the piano!!
"Mr. Sting," Zappa knew how to show respect. 😂
1) Zenyatta Mondatta
2) Reggatta de Blanc
3) Synchronicity

Have all five studio albums of The Police plus 1985-2003 Sting albums on CD 👍
My fave band ever. My top 5 changes often besides my favorite album being Regatta de Blanc and my least favorite is Outlandos D’Amour.

Synchronicity, especially side 1 is a pretty experimental record, along with a couple big singles.
My ranking
5. Zenyatta Mondatta (1980)
4. Reggatta De Blanc (1979)
3. Ghost In The Machine (1981)
2. Outlandos D' Amour (1978)
1. Synchronicity (1983)
This is exactly the same as mine.
@@JCStorm76 That's awesome !!
Man in a suitcase is the most underrated police song
I'm with Martin. Regatta deBlanc is my #1 and Zenyatta is #2 with the first album coming in last. The other two are inter changeable. Good show Hack!
So you’re not with Martin cause he ranked Zenyatta last haha.
Fun show!

Can't believe he's 80(!) now. Played on Jon Lord's Sarabande (1976).
@@LarryFleetwood8675 I haven't heard that but I own most of Andy's catalog. Going to see him live soon.

XTC really screwed this band when they pulled out of the tour. Would have loved to see the double bill of The Police with XTC.
Was going to post my own ranking but it's the exact same as Martins. Great episode!
Kinda like The Doors all the allbums are good but they can be ordered.
