    It's nice to hear their experiences especially regarding schools. My kids here are still young and in kindergarten level. The experience have been quite positive. The other older blasians we met (middle and high school) haven't discrimination as well. However I know this falls under a lot of factors. Thanks for creating these videos. This was a fascinating video - perhaps one of my favourites of yours. Firstly I like how you ask questions respectfully, do not try to control the entire interview, but rather allow your subjects to tell their stories. I usually hear a lot of negative experiences from Blasian interviewees, but I liked the glass is half full attitude from both your subjects. They both see the benefits from all cultures they have been exposed to. The young man (who grew up in Japan and Nigeria) at the end saw a positive twist to people asking about his ethnicity. When I was younger I got so annoyed at this question, like it was intrusive. He sees it as a simple curiosity and start to a conversation. Plus he rather than fight with his girlfriend he wants to understand her culture - what a thoughtful and bright young man!

    Like I mentioned bf, one's racial identity has both ethnic and cultural aspects. Hide may be ethnically half Korean, but since even his mother doesn't know Korea by virtue of having lived in Japan, there is no cultural framework upon which to build more. He has to start fresh almost in the same way any non-Korean would.
    Chris to me is fully Korean in the way he speaks and his mannerism, etc. But it is ironic that his citizenship is American and that brings a lot of challenges for him living in Korea.

      My daughter is British, Korean and Jamaican. Actually they are automatic at birth and you have no say. With the Korean citizenship however she has to make an oath at 18 stating she won't exercise her other citizenship rights in Korea to its disadvantage. She then remains Korean for the rest of her life.
      As for males it's more complicated. I believe they just renounce their Korean citizenship so they can avoid military service. I wonder if they can keep it if they just do their service.

    • @moakim4930
      @moakim4930 Год назад +3

      Also mixed sons and Gyopo don't actually put a lot of efforts to get Korean citizenship. As long as they accept you as Korean male, you HAVE TO GO Military when you grew up or give up Korean citizenship. Korean military is basically slavery so that's why they try to get Korean visa after they grew up.
      For girls, getting dual citizenship much easier when you got Korean citizenship from childhood.

    • @LJ_S1K
      @LJ_S1K Год назад +2

      @@nathanielmills4678 Wow I didn't know that about Korea. It's the same with Germany. I had a passport for Germany and the USA up until 18. I'm 28 now and I would just have to go to the German Consulate near me to get my German Passport again.

    Great video as always!!🙌🏼 5:12 in the United States there’s people from all over the world and so most households respect for their elders even siblings is different depending of your cultural background. I believe that in the USA the younger generation know that just because a person is older it doesn’t mean they are always right. Questioning respectfully is most of the time welcome. I say most of the time because i believe it all depends of cultural background and the person egos. For example, I was born in Dominican Republic but move to the USA at age 8 with my family. We were raise with the, not talking back to your elders, people who are even related to you are your aunt and uncles, cousins. The eldest it’s responsible for whatever their younger siblings /cousins do wrong. I’m the oldest of 17 grandkids and wherever my brothers and cousins did wrong was my fault ( because I new better lol) they were always compared to me. Which put a lot of pressure on me.

    Wait...he said he's living here on an F2-7 visa but having a hard time getting loans and credit cards from the bank? That's not entirely true as it mainly depends on where you bank--and yeah, not all banks are foreigner-friendly. I'm on the same visa and can get a card from my bank as well as a jeonse loan from them, but I've been with said bank for 12 years. He can also get those perks without being a citizen or on an F-series visa if he earned at least 3/4 the gross national income on a working visa (E7 mainly but E2 can also do it.) Income has become the biggest factor in determining whether you can get a loan even as well as how much you can qualify for even as a citizen (and a lot of citizens have experienced problems getting loans from their banks in recent years too, especially those in multiethnic marriages.) But he's right that if you're not a citizen or even F5 it's hard (or even impossible) to get any government assistance.

Part of me felt embarrased when I spoke korean since kids gave me a hard time growing up here in the states making fun of me cause I looked different n I probably sounded different due to my accent.

    I have something to tell you guys.
    In the case of mixed-male people, South Korea forces them to choose their nationality. This is to prevent the act of avoiding military service by leaving the country.
    In the past, many mixed-race people gave up their Korean citizenship because they did not want to fulfill their military service, and Koreans living in Korea must go to the military, so this becomes a problem of discrimination.
    it is free to choose the nationality of another country, but it is unpleasant for a person who has not fulfilled his military service because he did not choose Korean nationality to discuss inequality

    크리스는 나이로 보면 충분히 복수국적을 가져 대한민국 시민이
    될수있음에도 병역회피로 미국 단수 국적자로 살고 한국에서의 의무는 회피하고 달콤한 열매만 따먹는 사람같은데
