I'm a maintenance guy at a special Ed school in Chicago suburbs. I see what the school leaders do with the government grants. Schools around me got new roofs and new work trucks for snow removal. The school I work at the roofs leak constantly our one work truck was bought brand new in 08. I cut out a piece of carpet to cover the rust hole in the floor board at my feet so I don't freeze plowin snow in the parkinlots. Them people incharge on the boards pocket the money and the school gets nothin.

I've seen it first hand. Those teachers are not teaching. They send home packets for the parents to teach the kids. I have seen where the teacher sent home graded papers with my granddaughter's name written on it but not by her. The teacher claimed it was her bad grade. I had to advocate for my granddaughter because I helped with her homework and know that was not the paper she completed and sent in. This happened on numerous occasions. Y'all books are not being sent home for lower grades. They don't have work to show in certain subjects, so when you ask to see the work they do in class teachers can't produce it. These teachers got to be watched because they will flunk and deem them struggling to keep up especially at these predominant yt schools. My granddaughter was taken out of that school.

Here where I live the inner city schools get the most funding of any schools in the entire county. But instead of spending that money on education; they spend it on weight rooms, gym floors, stadium improvements etc.
The problem is most parents think little Johnny is the next Lebron James…they don’t care about education, they care about a winning sports team. Thats how most are choosing where to send their kids When these parents start caring about improving the education and sending their kids to schools that provide better educations, then these inner city schools will change.
But the schools won’t change until the parents mindset changes, which goes back to what Anton said…we have to change the culture.

How in the world can *anyone* defend public education? It’s been a disaster. There are districts with a 0% proficiency rate. Most are under 50%.
I've seen it first hand. Those teachers are not teaching. They send home packets for the parents to teach the kids. I have seen where the teacher sent home graded papers with my granddaughter's name written on it but not by her. The teacher claimed it was her bad grade. I had to advocate for my granddaughter because I helped with her homework and know that was not the paper she completed and sent in. This happened on numerous occasions. Y'all books are not being sent home for lower grades. They don't have work to show in certain subjects, so when you ask to see the work they do in class teachers can't produce it. These teachers got to be watched because they will flunk and deem them struggling to keep up especially at these predominant yt schools. My granddaughter was taken out of that school.
I like the conversation. I see value in both positions. Most of my adult life I've been seeking to support our people namely children who come from grimy environments. Historically that's our culture ' one teach one," lift as we climb etc.
Nonetheless lately I've been leaning to some of what Anton is saying about getting your own house & order. & creating new cultural standards.
