First song I played for my newborn. The immediate smile he gave me, and the automatic tears that filled my eyes. Such a beautiful moment in time. My heart froze. And I'll never forget it. 💘
This music feels like two things. As coming back 'home' after all the wars and suffering in life. Or like reflecting on something deep that has happened personally.
Uroš Peteh , May the blessings of the Lord be upon you and your family and friends. May all health, vitality and prosperity chase after you, surround you and give you peace, from this moment on....
This music makes me feel like all the sadness in the world is resting in the middle of my chest and sometimes I feel like I can't breathe, at the same time it fills me with sweet joy and i feel complete serenity...does that make any sense?
Yes. I am sitting here looking at the ocean outside my door...and contemplating whether or not to have cancer treatment. The composition is perfect for this moment in my life...
the main theme of this composition kind of makes me think of enjoying the simpler things in life; a small smile, watching the clouds go by, or just reading a good book. but more somber part makes me want to recline and think to myself. such a good piece.
i was listening to this song at midnight, had a little imagination that comes up, im thinking the rythm is the parents, while the melody is their children, and when the music goes to the sad part, the parents die, and soon after the rythm and the melody join together, the children becomes the parents, and it goes around again and again. haha just a small midnight thought. thanks for uploading!
This music feels like when all the saddness, anxiety and damage that the society have dealt with your life. You still managed to survive and now laying on a sweet bed with a cool breeze passing through your body..feeling calm and thankful to your life
The funny thing is that the composer (Erik Satie) lived a life that was completely different than the relaxing feel of this masterpiece. He was like let’s rock n roll, drink til I can’t no more.. if cocaine was invented back then he’d probably be a Hardcore junkie. He eventually died because of liver cirrhosis, which is very common for alcoholics. He was a genius musician and he actually invented the ambient music genre. He was into some weird occult stuff and of course people stayed away from him. He didn’t even let his friends enter his apartment, which was dirty and full of trash, at least they found it that way after he died. A weird and mysterious dude, who left the world without knowing how the people of the future love his music.
After a day of construction I like to put this song on, roll a joint, sit back with birds chirping through the silence while the sun sets as it cascades through the forest and just be one with the world. Taking in deep breaths of fresh air and placing my bare feet on the ground. That's more real than our everyday struggles. IT'S LIFE! In it's purest form. Thank the most high for allowing me to experience this beauty.
I listened to 1,2, and 3 and I fell in love with #1. This music relieves my stress and anxiety and refocuses me for my studies, dealing with my children, when I'm upset with my husband, and disappointed at life. It gives me faith that I will overcome all obstacles. Absolutely beautiful melodies!
I first heard this beautiful piece on a college radio station back during the '60s. Listening this evening brings back so many memories, both happy and sad.
I think that "Gymnopedie no.1" from Erik Satie is the only one real composition that can help you by study. Actually I'm not studying, I'm just just reading books on my own and I hate silence. I was already aware for a lot of time of this composition and the constant press of replay at the end of the song distracted me. Thanks to this video, now I can really immerse myself in a no time space. It's already 18.00 and playing this for the third time. Dostoevskij is calling me again, cheers.
I always find myself coming back to this song. I feel like I can just listen to it laying in bed and I start to think of past memories, future plans, joy, sadness, everything just comes crashing down and it’s the most obnoxious peacefulness I have ever felt.
I can't believe I've wasted my entire life listening to mainstream music like Drake and others. Since recent events have led me to reevaluate my entire life I started searching for deeper meaning in the world. There has to be more than spending all my free time glued to my phone like some addict. I'm glad to have found this music specifically this song. It puts me at ease and helps me with reading, meditation and even exercise. I'm about halfway through this dark episode in my life but I vow to make it out a much stronger human. I love you Azalia and Amiyah soon this will all be over.
Awesome! I feel almost the same way. You should definitely consider learning piano or any instrument, it's helped me a ton with allocating time. Plus, I get to learn beautiful melodies like this one. Hope you have a great day!
Of all the versions of Gymnopédie No. 1 on RUclips this one is by far the best. I'm not sure why, but when I listen to other versions they pale in comparison. I think whoever played this really understood the timing intended by Satie.
I listened to this music during my college studies a couple of years ago and now I'm back flipping pages to the books and writing these damn APA Style papers again. The music is so relaxing and at times I get so into listening to the music I forget about studying and then I have to go back to where I stopped in my studying which would sometimes be at the beginning. The piano sound just puts me in a trance.
I just love reading comments down from this video. People sharing experiences and sharing their stories. It’s just beautiful to read. Thought I’d say. Have a nice day.
I first heard this song on one of my son’s toys that played lullabies. I instantly fell in love with it. Reminds me of my husband and I and how young we were when we first started , how we fell in love, and now after so many years how God blessed us with our beautiful babies. Our son was our first born and this song definitely brought tears to my eyes just being so grateful to finally be a mother .
I was crying and when I finished listening to this song, I found this song comforted me, thank you to the person who made this song, thank you so much.
Eric Satie, when composing his timeless, wonderfully flowing compositions, saw something no one had seen before him. He saw resolution, he saw peace, and he saw placidity all rolled into one. Simply brilliant, amazing music that will never go away. It will always be here, even after the writer of every single comment under this video passes away. Even as we go, the music will be there, softly playing and gently lulling us away...
my beautiful mum introduced me to this music first, "the impressionists"... Debussy, Satie... magical, nostalgic, mysterious... the sound of joy and sorrow, a human soul's journey... no words can describe it! I miss my mum so much..... sure where she is there's sweet music
I read that Satie was very eccentric and he wanted to create beautiful background music. It’s meant for us to be able to converse with others or read or create, with this beautiful sound accompanying us but not intruding. He once got angry because someone noticed how beautiful it was.
When I hear this music, I have a very clear image in my head. I see the stars, shining brighter than I'd ever see on Earth. The world around me, it's so perfect. I peer out the window of this high-up building to see this beautiful sprawling utopia. Its center so far away, but so grand in scale, a fantastic silver spire rocketing into the clouds... The whole world is golden, from the buildings to the clouds, and I hear this music so loudly that I get lost in it again and find myself back here. But the image, the golden city, the stars that shine through the day, the massive silver spire, It will never be taken away from me. I hope to see it some day. Probably not, but a man can hope.
This song is like finding love for the first time again, full of ups and downs, tip-toeing constantly in between anxiety and ecstasy. When i close my eyes i picture myself walking down through a forest aimlessly.
This was the piece that was played just before the song my wife walked down the aisle to to marry me. She left me a few months ago. First time I’ve heard it since. I don’t make a habit out of making myself feel sad, it’s not a habit anyone should make, I believe. Just passing through, tipping my hat to some wonderful memories that had this playing in the background.
Andrew Cain take care champ, don’t look back too much, you can start to lose sight of what’s happening right now, I keep making that mistake. Please take care of yourself
I don't know how it is to lose a wife, but I recently lost my love aswell. We are still friends but... The memories keep going back over and over again. I know I may sound like everyone else, but we can't look back too much, keep the good memories, try to think about the experience and happiness you gained and you can share it with someone, who would stay with you to the end.
To whomever made this - Thank you. This is the most calming song I've been able to find to work to. Reduces stress levels very naturally, so not having to reset it every 4 minutes is great. :-)
My teacher used to play this to make us go to sleep, she has had I believe one or so children and she had made me the person I am today, I am almost rich, I have never been truly truly depressed, because of such a kind person, she was so nice. Thank you Ms.Cook and may your child(ren) be happy and safe. Thank you ❤.
Simply Beautiful!!!! This piece of music has so many emotional affects on me, depending on my mind set at the time, but still, when I close my eyes and listen I feel harmonious peace, even if I am crying my eyes out, over a sad memory. It makes me feel better! How in tuned was Satie with life hey! magnificent composer.
I love Erik Satie's music. I am memorizing this for a piano recital. I have been listening to this while playing to help get the rhythms and tempo down. Thanks for posting this!
Spring break has ended...so before I go home today I had to spend..more time with them. Just walked my little brother and sister to school. We walked gracefully and just talked about how everything was and forth... I never wanted to cry so bad in my life... As we reached the school I told them how proud of them I was... To not worry and complain about simple yet complex things...everything is going to be fine. Shortly after, I gave both of them hugs like if I was on a deathbed... Never felt that way in my life. They both ran gracefully to their friends and we go separate ways. I have changed so much. Though I'm still crying now. Life is so profound and it's very important... to express yourself to family while they are alive, not dead. About to leave to San Diego now and remember how I gave them love before I left. After this I shall return to the present.
+Calvin Hollins To Mr. Hollins. An absolutely beautiful story of your experience with brother and sister. May you always have that connection as you all continue through life.
@@amritafeldbruegge8418 Yeah Calvin, My Wife and I would love to know where you went to school, how your life is going and a few other things. We would LOVE to know because, ya know thats what happily married couples do. 🤔
I love this song,I heard it once at a street fair,a guy with a 12string electric guitar was playing it,he had his own CD and I bought it. I puts me to sleep,so relaxing.
It's been a long time since you posted your comment but I still wanted to react to it. The feeling may be best described as Melancholic nostalgia in English; like looking back at lost happiness which makes you feel warm yet sad at the same time. For me it's also a feeling of being alone while thinking about someone but not being lonely. Saudade is the Portugese word for it which comes even closer but has no real translation to English. I hope that helps a bit?
This song brings out so many feelings. Sadness, reminds me that people age and die eventually and most are forgotten. Nostalgia remember my innocent days having fun and not worrying about problems. Open mindedness thinking about absolutely anything especially how circumstances came to be. And for some reason a sense of nothingness/missing especially because I feel excluded, disregarded, and minimal
At midnight i am listening this song and i cried then my 3 years old son said me "dont cry " that moment i thought whatever sad things happened in my life at least i have a son and i have to be strong for him ever
I've been searching for this melody for two years. It has been haunting me when I overheard someone playing it in a music shop. It felt so warm back then but I did not stop by to ask what the song was. I went back home and searched in online and could not find it until I watched amateur works from a director and found that song again and scanned through the credits and found the magical words: Satie - Gymnopedie No. 1. Today is the day!
Like the turning of the new season I wonder, or think. As Fall comes around will the dancing leaves be just as beautiful as last time? Maybe Winter will just be as melancholy to me from it's cold, seductive dancers that fall gracefully from the sky. Blanketing us. Will the Summer be just as hot as it was last time? The heat of it might be unbearable but like an annoying sibling you can't help but smile towards them. Despite their loudness. Spring. The mistress that could spring life out of Winter's cold heart. I do hope you'd make the life of our sacred plants look just as beautiful as last time. Sure, Winter will still be around be she'll know when to go, I know so. As it happens again, and again.... I love all four of you, despite my frustrations, and empty heart.
This song has always been one of my favourites. And I get you don’t bother listening in on my weird thoughts and feelings about this song, but the song is unbeatable, it makes you wanna feel like you’re in a fairy tales dark forest, living in a cabin, reading stories to your children in medieval times and telling them about the great wonders of the world, does that feeling come up in anyone else?
I remember as a small child laying in the grass in my yard and looking up at the clouds as they float by just wondering........... What it was like up there. I'd see air planes pass over me and wonder what the people inside were doing at that moment. A warm relaxing summer day. Forever and ever.......
I used to have a kiddie piano when I was little that had built-in songs on it .. this was one of them. it was a much shortened version of the song but a great song nevertheless . it wasnt until years later that I actually found out the correct name of the song. I played the video game Remember Me on Xbox 360 where a robot was playing this song on piano. I then googled it and found the name! love this song.. this is coming from a guy who listens to ALL genres of music
Some of my favorite music ever... didn't realize it was going to play the same song over and over though! Though this might be the favorite Gymnopédie, it's so much sweeter when context with the rest of the album
I first heard this song on a commercial for depression medication many years ago. Just heard it again in a movie about an amish girl. Found the name in the credits. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song.
Lemon Chicken i’d say they’re idiots if they want to live a simple life, but i understand why. life isn’t always simple; sometimes things happen that you don’t want yet you’ll have to, if you understand me. i get that, people want to control their lives. but doing something a bit backwards in this day and age seems a bit too much.
THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY, MAKES ME REMEMBER MUCH OF MY CHILDHOOD, OF MY PARENTS AND ALL THAT, I WILL NEVER LEAVE HER LISTENING, THAT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG
The expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of the real to attach itself to the expression of an serene universe. Colors and rhythm of these compositions are a language that gives life to the listener’s exaltation !
I don't know why i realy like the feel of this music. it brings me to a time where i just look out the window staring at the starry night sky , or sitting on the grass under the moonlight. It's not very explainable.
This makes me imagine reading a book while sitting in bed by the window as it rains. For some reason most piano music makes me feel sad, yet this one didn't. I find it more relaxing and somewhat mysterious, as if I'm exploring an old house filled with books and candlelight. I really like this song, it relaxes me~♥
So happy to find The Velvet Gentleman on RUclips -- thanks! And grateful to Blood Sweat & Tears for the intro to Erik Satie in 1968. Their second album opens and closes with "Variations on a Theme by Erik Satie". I had the vinyl of Velvet Gentleman back in the day -- one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. So familiar.
I know I'm not the person who you asked, but having been in the same situation as you I think it's fitting to say you really shouldn't care what others think about your tastes in music. That being said, respect everybody else's tastes as no one genre of music is better than another, so don't flaunt your interest in classical as some subtle form of saying, "Ha, I'm smarter than you." And as much as it doesn't make you smarter, neither does it make you weird. Don't let your tastes in music define how you think about yourself.
trivialGalaxy, Thanks. A big fear of mine is just turning into an arrogant person, so I usually try to be pretty careful about what I say. Looking at the comment I made it seem like I was an annoying “BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION’’ person. A bit embarrassing.
Saudade do meu pai !
if the feeling you got when thinking about the past, that melancholic feeling of how it was all so good but now everything's gone bad, was converted into music, this is what it would sound like.

I imagine standing in the rain during spring.
This makes me feel like walking on the beach in the shore on a rainy, grey day.
Uroš Peteh my father used to play this for before he shipped off to Afghanistan, he never played this tone again ):
Second one for me.Few tears of love running through my face.😢
This music makes me feel like all the sadness in the world is resting in the middle of my chest and sometimes I feel like I can't breathe, at the same time it fills me with sweet joy and i feel complete serenity...does that make any sense?
Yes. I am sitting here looking at the ocean outside my door...and contemplating whether or not to have cancer treatment. The composition is perfect for this moment in my life...

While you contemplate, light a joint and enjoy this present moment. Let those cells commit suicide.. Get well
A very elegant way of stating it my friend.
total sense because you are experiencing the very essence of yourself and that is of course duality
the main theme of this composition kind of makes me think of enjoying the simpler things in life; a small smile, watching the clouds go by, or just reading a good book. but more somber part makes me want to recline and think to myself. such a good piece.

+Harrison Kim It sounds so kitschy but it's true. You don't search these things, you find them.

This is looped seamlessly. Creates a mesmerizing effect on replay :)
Absolutely!
I love Erik Satie's music. I am memorizing this for a piano recital. I have been listening to this while playing to help get the rhythms and tempo down. Thanks for posting this!
Reversed TARDIS Well, the First Gymnopédie that is
Spring break has ended...so before I go home today I had to spend..more time with them.
+Mark Blunck Yes. Brother same to you. It was an experience of no words but only to be lived.
I believe this is called an epiphany.
Where did you go to school? How is life going for you.
@@amritafeldbruegge8418 Yeah Calvin,
My Wife and I would love to know where you went to school, how your life is going and a few other things. We would LOVE to know because, ya know thats what happily married couples do. 🤔
a very peaceful, calm, & soothing classical piece of music to send me flying somewhere with my imagination, far away from the everyday's reality...
thanks for putting this up. 3.36 minutes is'n' enough time to listen to this music
I love this song,I heard it once at a street fair,a guy with a 12string electric guitar was playing it,he had his own CD and I bought it. I puts me to sleep,so relaxing.
It sucks how no matter how hard I try to articulate how this makes me feel I can never truly do it.
Qualia
JUST DO IT!!!!!
Ermias Merine
it moves you 😄
It's been a long time since you posted your comment but I still wanted to react to it.
In Spanish I call it "my melody with melancholy"
This is a very beautiful piece of music! Satie was a great composer! This is one of my favourite compositions for relaxation.
BastetOrBast74 Thank you so much for your comment :)
Chopin was still better :P
Triggers every type of nostalgia I remember.
Aaaaand sleep! Farewell world, til we meet again tomorrow..
mistersparkrle Thank you so much for listening Mistersparkrle !
+Live your Dreams 2 May I ask where you got the artwork for the piece. It has such a dreamy feel to it. I would love to have a copy of it.
6laderunner I do some of my best work while I'm sleeping. I'd love to source you some things, but, ya know...I was asleep.
God bless brother.
Santa bless you too
Happy Birthday Mr. Satie, thank you for this masterpiece
Love this so much. My little baby sleep only with this song 💙
Everytime. Listen to this while I sleep and always have the best dreams that scenario being close to one of them
Erik Satie is for me an incredible artist...
+dede roro his songs are very fantastic
This music make me sad. My mother used to listen to this. It reminds me of her...
💞💗
My daughter will say this when I’m dead. I’m 82.
I remember as a small child laying in the grass in my yard and looking up at the clouds as they float by just wondering........... What it was like up there. I'd see air planes pass over me and wonder what the people inside were doing at that moment. A warm relaxing summer day. Forever and ever.......
Who could possibly dislike this?
brainless people
700 brainless people. So sad 😔😔😔
It's like looking at yourself, who is slowly wearing out in your daily life, through the eyes of a helpless observer.
I then googled it and found the name! love this song.. this is coming from a guy who listens to ALL genres of music
mysterybat35 holy shit balls! you’re ancient!
My Dinner with Andre! First heard this piece! Been in love with it ever since.
I forgot that this was in that great film.
Some of my favorite music ever... didn't realize it was going to play the same song over and over though! Though this might be the favorite Gymnopédie, it's so much sweeter when context with the rest of the album
Picture This....walking down a busy sidewalk and just listening to this taking all in, so peaceful
I first heard this song on a commercial for depression medication many years ago. Just heard it again in a movie about an amish girl. Found the name in the credits. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song.
Al ex what’s the title of the movie?
i don’t quite know the meaning of amish?
Johnson Baron Caveler it’s a style of lifestyle where people live a simplistic life.
Lemon Chicken
i’d say they’re idiots if they want to live a simple life, but i understand why.
life isn’t always simple; sometimes things happen that you don’t want yet you’ll have to, if you understand me.
i get that, people want to control their lives.
but doing something a bit backwards in this day and age seems a bit too much.
found it via Khai Dreams - Do you wonder
This song the first one was in Royal Tenenbaums 18 years ago...
Feel the enigma...the sadness...the serenity...the deep thought of loneliness...the lounging...and yet there is gladness...and hope
with raining, this music is perfect.
love ya♥
Sooo relaxing when thundering and the water drops
.
The melody makes me feel as if enlightenment is possible. Like happiness reaches out and when I reach back I float higher and higher above the world.
This song is Everything!! Having it on a 2 hour loop is just what I needed!
this music increases my level of productivity
this music makes me cry ! It's so beautiful !!!!
THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY, MAKES ME REMEMBER MUCH OF MY CHILDHOOD, OF MY PARENTS AND ALL THAT, I WILL NEVER LEAVE HER LISTENING, THAT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG
all my childhood, my past and dreams comes in my mind whenever i listen this song
How beautiful the humanity can be sometimes.
Preciosa música. Paz y tranquilidad
This makes me imagine reading a book while sitting in bed by the window as it rains. For some reason most piano music makes me feel sad, yet this one didn't. I find it more relaxing and somewhat mysterious, as if I'm exploring an old house filled with books and candlelight. I really like this song, it relaxes me~♥
Dreary day, laying in bed reading some Camus and writing some philosophical essays. Couldn't be better right now
I finally found it. I’m so happy. ❤️
***** Thank you for listening Yana, cheers !
Just Instrumental Music, Do you think it's weird to be this into classical at age 10…?
Also, thanks for uploading this, it's amazing.
Yes this
make to feel no real... empty ... nowhere... lonely... it is so sad and wonderful at the same time
