The name “Gymnopedie” literally means “bare feet.” Satie named this composition (along with No.2 and No. 3) to mock the pretentious titles of works by the more “sophisticated” composers of the day. In so doing, he not only had a laugh at their expense, but-more importantly-he took beautiful music out of the realm of the elite snobs and made it accessible for us “peasants.” And here we are, people from all walks of life, still enjoying it over 100 years later:

Uma das maneiras que me fez conhecer de leve a mim mesmo foi apaixonar-me. Isso implicou analisar-me e tentar entender o quanto preciso me podar para ser digno de atenção. Comparei-me à pessoa amada e percebi que sou outra pessoa, antes eu andava vazio e flutuante. Abri os olhos para a minha solidão, para o adeus depois de tudo e para a certeza do depois. For me this is sad more than relaxing. I'm listening to it while I read the first part, 11th chapter from "Notes from the Underground" (Dostoievski) and I feel this music applies so good to the feelings of the protagonist. The way he makes about the nature of humans, a reflexion of his life that has been a mess for the past 40 years, his mind is also a mess. He is troubled by memories of the past he can't change now, has lived bitterly all his life and to comfort himself tries to laugh at his own suffering but deep down he knows that everything he says to comfort himself are lies. He writes all this in some kind of a therapy for no one to read it, just for himself, as the snow falls on the outside and he watches through the window. The Underground has consumed every bit of happiness, passion and hope he could have and he tries to reflect it at the beginning as some type of social critic of what will happen to the will and desires of mankind when everything can finally be predictable in a scientific way. But what I think that disturbes him the most is the fact of being no one, he complains in some times he doesn't have any personality and can't begin or finish any work because he is reluctant and in some cases prefers destruction and suffering more than something good because, "it's the way humans work". I empathize with him, I also feel worried for a lot of things in life that I don't know how to solve and everything makes me sad listless.
