    It's actually their third generation.
And coming from the Z fold, the software on the Oneplus (Well, Oppo, where I live.) while not as 'mature' is definitely much more intuitive to use.
I traded in my fold4 for this and I'm loving it.
One thing I would like addressed is how much power the camera is draining. a bit of software optimization would be much appreciated there.

@@abhikchowdhury3441 I can only compare this to the Z fold 4, This is much better.
      some cons:
      - Hinge does not stop at every angle, once you open it past around 100 degrees it will want to snap fully open.
      - Camera bump is huge ( So you'll not be using it in flex mode much anyways.)
      - no wireless charging.
      - still no idea how service and warranty will go. I get two years warranty with 2 free screen replacements, I had to change my Z fold4 and Z flip 3 screen once a year as they would start cracking.
      - one little UI nitpick, I can't find a way to quickly launch the camera to capture an in the moment shot. (It's double tapping the power button on Samsung)
      Pros
      - excellent screens
      - terrific camera systems, I'm enjoying pictures I've taken with these more than my pocket cameras like the ZV1
      - great battery life, easily last all day.
      - perfect screen ratio, makes the phone usable open and closed
      - Microphone is surprisingly good
      - UI is amazing, IMO it puts Samsung's oneUI to shame. Multitasking is a breeze,, apps does not load in weird aspect raios, I'm loving the experience so far ans I can't say the same for the Samsung I daily drove for 2 years + (flip then fold)

Software still needs more offerings and refinement but that bottom dock is a game changer.
Samsung has done incredible in Software = Dex desktop mode is better than Googles Android version and has been for 8yrs now.
Goodluck brings a plethora of more Software options opening up what seems to be missing features and augmentations.

Have owned both foldable. OnePlus is far superior of a phone. I don't use wireless charging so I don't give a damn about that. I'd rather be able to charge my phone faster. And have a better battery. The OnePlus is just an overall better phone in general. I can def see Samsung losing some of the market. As a multiple Samsung fold owner. My only regret was that the OnePlus didn't come out sooner. I def would've made the switch sooner. Don't let people's negative not pick BS fool you. It's a much better phone.

Let's dig in and SMASH those 'concerns' into the trash can they came from...
1)The case is supposed to be temporary, and even though it's not premium, it's more than the NOTHING you get with a flagship Samsung/Sony/Apple phones. Plus, you never mentioned that OP includes a CHARGER. Cable, which is important. I bought my Note and the only reason it came with a charger was it was bundled as a promotion. The logic is, you do not leave the store without a case.
    2) Who, in 2023 is dropping phones in the toilet, and if you do, phones are supposed to be peepee/ doodoo resistant too? I guess people are so important they cannot take the time out to relieve themselves without a device in the feeble, toddler hands? I mean If I might be getting a call, my phone is in my pocket, and if the person cannot understand I need to take a dump, I guess I am being oppressed. Also, so if it's raining i guess if I have no hoodie, no umbrella, no waterproof jacket, I will need to walk in the pouring rain and talk. hmmmmm.. That conversation better be making me at least $5000, just in case. My Note 3 did fine around 10 years ago, and I had it in rain, snow, and NYC cold.
3)Wireless charging? Never needed it nor used it. OP phones have probably the best battery life in the business and they charge quickly with the INCLUDED charger.I have been through 3 One Plus phones and they are amazing. See, since I am an adult, not a toddler or feeling high school level peer pressure, I do not need a pretty case, pretty phone, I just need it to work reliably. Wireless charging is ONLY a luxury, not a need nor does it affect performance
    most

There's just too many downsides and not enough upsides to wireless charging for me to consider a phone not having it an issue. Until wireless charging can be two-three times faster than current wireless charging while also reducing device heat while charging, I'm just not interested. The IPX rating is the only real thing that worries me. The pricing would be much better if they could get carriers on board for subsidizing.

    • @Brendon471
      @Brendon471 10 месяцев назад +6

I was worried about the IP rating until I saw MrMobile's review showing how OnePlus tests their waterproofing. @@Brendon471 unfortunately, from my testing the Z Fold 5 is more suitable for me as a work task device, especially with DEX. The Open was not as option rich or intuitive for my needs. For a mainly media consumption device it was pretty amazing though.

    • @Brendon471
      @Brendon471 10 месяцев назад +2

@@breedlofam Totally understandable. Dex is the one thing OnePlus really has no alternative for, so if it's something you rely on heavily then the Open will not be the device for you. One reason I didn't choose this one (or the Google Pixel Fold) was the lack of Display Port alt output to where I could use display glasses with them on the train or when I was out. I used to love OnePlus and haven't bought one of their phones since the 7t but without a doubt I can say their foldable is far more appealing than Samsung's. I wasn't even considering getting a foldable until the OnePlus Open. I do agree that the lack of wireless charging is a inconvenience since all my current phones have it and I don't agree with their excuses for not having it but it's not a deal breaker. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Pixel Fold are good phones but the OnePlus Open is better.

One item that wasn’t discussed is the battery life on this OnePlus open puts Samsung to shame. Also the camera has a pro setting that allows you to adjust every detail possible. This is my 3rd oppo OnePlus foldable and they’re built like tanks. The inside camera is so much better for video calls and anything is better than the Samsung under the screen camera.. I’ve returned two pixel folds for screen failures, this can fold over 1 million times. My only gripe is that the device is very slippery.

    • @deepin2u
      @deepin2u 9 месяцев назад

The battery life in practice changes to favor Samsung when using the outer screen more.
What's significant is OPPO released a phone so late in this SoC cycle with the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with lots of ram but in less than 10 days after it's launch date the 8 Gen 3 was announced and began shipping in 3 products.
I'll wait to see what Samsung delivers this May/June 2024 with the Z Fold 6.
I'm expecting big refinements that match or surpass the OnePlus Open/OPPO Find N3 models set.
      LTPO with 1-144hz,
      Higher product,
Better hinge with iP68 for duts and water resistance.

Discounts can't make up for how much phones suck. Both Samsung Folds, 4 and 5 didn't even fix the irritating crease issue that the OnePlus Open fixed, and with the limited budget they have as a small, and rising company. The wider screen, and even the brightness (nits) was more than impressing. Again, coming from a small and rising company, compared to the big league companies, who have way more than enough money to have addressed that issue to begin with. Instead, we get a Samsung Fold 5, for example, so that they can get rid of their overflow of inventory of the 6.2 cover screens and 7.6 inch fold screens. $800 trade-ins, or however much other companies try to entice consumers with to get their phones is all a business tactic for $$$ gain.
I've had my OnePlus Open since the very 4th day of launch, and although you're right about the case it comes with, being flimsy and pretty much easily breakable, the hardware and durability is very impressive. The IP rating isn't much of a concern for me. I don't pull the phone out directly in the rain and I'm always careful when putting any of my phones near drinks and even food, on my desk, or restaurants. I've used the phone MANY times while my hands or fingers were wet, and, if you're like me, I love taking hot and very steamy showers and I simply put my phone down on the vanity each time and the phone hasn't been affected at all.
When it comes to charging, not having wireless charging isn't the end of the world to me. The EXTREMELY FAST charging (indicated by the blue circle animation), is on another world. From 0 - full charge only takes 30 minutes for me. With the normal fast charging (indicated by the green circle animation), I get 45 minutes the most. The battery life is no joke. With the heavy use I put it through (think, IT, meetings, zoom calls, heavy scheduling/ calendar/ reminders and notes usage), and even streaming videos, and more, I'd still get a good 3 days worth of use before I'd have to fully recharge. The power saving mode even tells you how much longer in battery life you can get if you switch it to power saving mode. Even when the battery gets down to 10%, the power saving mode tells me that I'd get 1 Day and however relevant minutes left of use if I switch.
Let's not forget about the OS. I can tell you that Oxygen, is truly a breath of fresh air (pun intended, LOL). They promise 4 years of updates as well. For me, Oxygen is an actual "breakaway," from the confinements of the Samsung and Apple OS exclusivity walls. If OS doesn't matter to you, then you'd be absolutely fine with Oxygen. It's still Android-based anyway, so any and all of your apps will still come from Google Play, and guess what? I may have traded my Samsung S23 Ultra for the OnePlus Open, but my Galaxy Watch 6 pairs and works with the OnePlus Open. The Wearable software is on Google Play, so if it's on the Google Play store, it'll work with OnePlus Open.
Lastly, the Hasselblad camera, is ACTUALLY impressive. I take a lot of night shots and in low light scenarios and the camera system and software enhances them to adjust to the conditions and the final product (picture), for a really good capture. I've found myself not having to edit the photos at all. Of course, night shots still need ample light to even come up with impressive results. No phone can take pictures in complete darkness, and if you know and understand the dynamics of taking pictures at night or in low-light conditions, you'd be fine.
Take it from someone who actually owns and loves the OnePlus Open.

You choose to pick on these 'features' that most people find irrelevant for your video. I find that funny and somewhat pathetic. I think you're one of these guys that likes to point out negative stuff to be different. Water resistant IPX rating. I don't plan on swimming with my phone. Dating back to the early 90s, I've only lost ONE phone to water damage. Dropped in toilet and let it sit for 10 seconds before going in. I am not going to worry about this. Wireless charging? Why would I need to use something so inefficient? 10-15W vs 67W? Plus, while charging with the cable, I can actually use it. Wireless charging heats up the battery after prolonged use, which harms the battery. No Thanks. When they come up with 50W wireless charging (like the ONeplus 12 will next year), I will consider it. For now, the Oneplus Open is clearly heads and shoulders above the Pixel and Fold5. Everything's better. It's a better foldable experience.

Write this on a wall and keep reading it.."Samsung's Galaxy Fold line ups innovation and getting better on hardware front is solely dependent on OnePlus Open's success". Else keep convincing yourself Samsung gave a new Fold ever year like the past few years. Period.
OnePlus Open is a 3rd Gen device which has knocked the socks off Samsung already. But once it is carrier adipted, which is possible with OnePlus Open 2, then it will hurt Samsung badly and steal its lunch. Youll then see a Z fold 6 and 7 with all the improvements you have been asking for last few years but Samsung conveniently ignored it as they did t need to. After having Samsung Zfold 3 and Zfold 4 and really missing the size and more praticality of LG V60 tired and hoping that Samsung would eventually make a bigger fold that would make it more practical for multitasking. I am waiting to see what they do with with Zfold 6. If the size of the 6 does not increase significantly I will most likely be getting the second release of OpenPlus Open. As far as the hits on the OpenPlus for this video compared to the obvious flaws of the current fold modles, this video, sounds like a Zfold fanboy defence of samsung lack of invoation over the years on thier Fold series is major lack luster. Wireless Charging who would seriously even use them they are so slow so doesnt matter. I would think most peoplewould want folds more for productivity ( screen size Matters), bigger screen to watch videos on the go, play games or have bad eyesight. Camera is good enough and could improve with firmware. Only reasonI have a Zfold 4 is that they ran out of Zfold 3 replacement for repairs and got a free upgrade otherwise I would still have a Zfold 3. Samsung has done abosulutely nothing with the folds since I got my Zfold 3 that would make me go out and uprade to a new modle willingly. We will see if they finally get off their greed and lack of inovation on the folds or if I will be moving to OnePlus Open on my next phone purchase. Folds need to have larger screen size to be more productive. each half of the phone needs to be atleast a similar size to normal phones or it is pointless having 2 apps running side by side. Good job OnePlus.

Almost without exception everyone said that on the whole. The open was the better device against the Samsung or the Pixel Fold.
So your opinion is yours for sure. But it is not a consensus, and it doesn't agree with the consensus.

it's fragile - well yeah it's a folding phone, you know what you're getting into.
it's only IPX4 - cool, nobody throws their phone in a distilled water pool anyways, it's safe from terrential rain so it's not that big a deal
no wireless charging - yup it's annoying but your battery lasts all day and can charge enough for a light day in like 15 minutes.
cameras - if you had the phone or watched enough reviews you'd know there's a camera mode for motion (action mode), it's not perfect but it's still very good.
price comparison:Yeah for more $100 more you can get the z fold 5, but that's not including the $200 trade-in for literally anything that could take phone calls at some point, NOR is it spec-equivalent. Your price argument of $1700 vs $1800 is valid on a technicality, but it's actually more like $1500 (or $1525 if you buy a burner phone) vs ~$2100
Yours sincerely, a OnePlus Open daily driver.

Who gives a 💩about wireless charging or the IPX4? How many times you will put your phone underwater? Maybe 1 or 2 in all the years you will have it. As for the wireless charging 99.9% of the consumers would pick a 45-50 minutes full charge from 0 to 100% than a 2-3 hours wireless charging that galaxy or iPhone or any other device offers.
To close the subject, One Plus Open is currently the best smartphone on the planet, period.
P.s. i was an Apple fan boy and i just gave away my iPhone 15 Pro Max for the Open. And i would do it 1milion more times if i had to…

@chris7077 funny, you dont sound intelligent at all with a comment like that. Of course most dont reply in 5min but since we all get notifications and emails when someone replies, a few days would be appropriate. Same as my first post i always laugh when someone chimes in with an attempt at a smart ass reply well after the fact. Thanks for the laughs I appreciate it! Have a great day and a merry Christmas 🎅

Take the L and move on. I will give you credit and blame your lack of any logic or reading comprehension on the failing public school systems.

Avoid the OnePlus Open. If it gets faulty you'll lose it to OnePlus support and never know when you'll get it back. If ever. I've now been forced to buy a different phone.
