    Sean Quinn. Hmmm...The time he said on a chat show; ''Don't worry. I won't go hungry'', done it for me. At a time when worse things than hunger were happening to family's and individuals due to this terrible time. Go away Sean you dug enough holes.

    SQ has to be one of Ireland’s finest examples of hubris. I recall around the time of his jailing his bitter complaining that the minister for finance had refused to meet with him in those days leading up to his bankruptcy - all this while those of us lucky to still be working were saddled with taxes up to our eyeballs thanks to gamblers such as himself, the unlucky had to emigrate, and worst of all we were losing people to utter despair. The aftereffects continue to this day - housing crisis anyone? - though obscured by time and other events such as covid. And this is the moment this guy tries to rewrite history, again? Like Bertie Aherne, people haven’t forgiven or forgotten. If ever a person needed someone to whisper into their ear - Memento homo - (remember) you are only a man - it’s this guy.

      What about the bondholders? Were they giving the Minister his instructions? Do you not think the housing crisis has anything to do with open borders and the deliberate de-homogenising of Europe?

    • @DarkoManco

      @@HH-hd3gs Whataboutery? I do my best not to tell anybody what, or indeed how, to think. We went from building almost 30k houses and 15k apartments a year in 2008 to less than 5k houses and practically no apartments in 2012. This year, 2023, we may get back to 2008 levels of home building. So, no, I don’t accept your open borders hypothesis. The most you could say is immigration exasperates the existing housing shortage. However the reason there were no houses in the first place has nothing to do with folks who arrived in the last 5 years. The guts of it is we have land that can support 8 million people, work for about 5.2 million people, but housing for less than 5, no matter how people want to twist it. As for bondholders, I’d suggest considering linear time and deductive reasoning, do you think the Quinn/Anglo/INBS situation made it harder or easier for Ireland to borrow on bond markets? It’s fairly obvious the ECB put a gun to the governments head at that time, they would never let little old Ireland bring down German banks, but how did we get to that point, where a credit crunch in America caused Ireland to ship 240 billion in debts?

      Your summation is bang on. For over a decade taxpayers have been saddled with USC and other not so stealth taxation thanks to these once revered 'heroes'.

      @HH-hd3gs Год назад +2

      @DarkoManco "We" may get back to 2008 levels of homebuilding. Who are "we"? Vulture funds managed by Blackrock etc. The Irish just pay their taxes and believe that people like Sean Quinn or those who own €200,000 cars are to blame for their hardship because the IT tells them so.

    • @DarkoManco
      @DarkoManco Год назад

      @@HH-hd3gs ah here, before this you were blaming immigrants, now it’s vulture funds. Why not throw in globalists, to complete the line on the right wing buzz word bingo card? Then a bit of straw manning about expensive cars. We could all throw around apparent insults about what publications you want to pretend people read, Irish Light etc., to justify your own strange simping for a failed attempted billionaire.
