It is my understanding that my great great grandfather was a Russian Jew, his name was Henry Cohen but for some reason he changed his last name to Cowan after he moved to Canada. He didn’t pass down his faith if he had it. However I have the heart to learn it, I do my best to keep Shabbat and the feast days but there are no synagogues here. My great grandmother was tight lipped whenever asked about it when she was alive. So I don’t have a whole lot of information, other than his name and date of birth/death. I wonder if Aliyah can be extended to me and my family or are we just too far removed?
I cannot find any records only doing my DNA it has that I am Jewish on this document from Ancestry. We have been keeping Torah, Shabbat, The Festivals, and all things Jewish...have always had a heart for Israel but did not know why until doing my DNA. How can I and my two adult son's do Aliyah? My ancestors have gone...cannot ask them now except my Dad always said we were Jewish...
Hello, a DNA result that “proves” your Jewish origins does not grant the right to make aliyah according to the Law of Return. The Israeli law and the Israeli Ministry of Interior procedures are in consensus on this issue. An aliyah applicant is required to present documented proof of being Jewish or having Jewish ancestors within the last two generations. Those who don’t have documents require strong testimonial evidence with a solid explanation for the lack of documents in order to be eligible for aliyah and Israeli citizenship.

You need at least one Jewish grandparent, parent, or being Jewish yourself or marrying a Jew. You can also formally convert
