  • For the past decade, Jaguar Land Rover has been one of the anchors of the British economy. More than forty thousand workers, and many more in supporting suppliers, making cars and making money.
Last year, fifteen hundred lost their jobs. Today, the company said another four and a half thousand would be going, mainly in marketing, management and administration. Ford too said cuts were coming in its European workforce - though it didn't specify where. Honda warned of the consequences of a no deal Brexit on its operations here in the UK. But for now, it is Jaguar Land Rover workers who will be losing livelihoods, because of falling demand for diesel cars, falling sales in China, and uncertainty over Brexit.
