    Awesome player. Smashes the 9s and 10s when his team needs it, but also barely misses any other tackles, is now a great ball carrier, amazing in the lineout and actually shows great hands sometimes. Has to go on the Lions tour.

      Adam Challis I used to just think he liked pick in small guys to make himself seem tough, but recently think he has been playing well

    • @joecardwell4253
      @joecardwell4253 7 лет назад +8

      Adam Challis lol 90% of these tackles end up with the passer getting the ball away anyway & all Lawes has succeeded in doing is leaving a massive dogleg in the line. Criminal that he's in the lions squad ahead of Launch & Johnny Gray.

    • @harryhayre4151
      @harryhayre4151 7 лет назад +1

      launchbury didn't get a sniff at the england team before kruis got injured and no way johnny gray is going to be as useful against the kiwi 9 & 10

    • @Fudgeis1337
      @Fudgeis1337 7 лет назад +4

      90% is a bit much, and on several occasions the passer or the person they've attempted to offload to has spilt the ball, giving England possession, so what's the problem here? Lawes has massively upped his game this year, he carries hard, is a rock in defence and plays the setpiece very well. I'm upset that Launch didn't get to go with the Lions but Lawes is a good enough player to be there in his own right. Gray has good reason to feel aggrieved as well but if anyone was going to be dropped from the touring locks imo it should be AWJ as he had a bit of a weak 6N, and I think he's largely in to fill a leadership role.

    • @thegamingsaint3273
      @thegamingsaint3273 7 лет назад +1

      Lawes is amazing and fully deserves to go on tour. But about the lions tour comments, looking back at the first few games I have no idea why launchbury wasn't picked. I may be biased but Itoje, Kruis, Lawes and launchbury are all 'worldclass'. I understand why AWJ got picked (leadership) however Henderson is a shadow compared to Launchbury.

    Everyone hating on Courtney Lawes for tackling 9s and 10s, you try and tackle Owen Farrell or Toby flood and see who comes out on top. And for the ones saying his tackles are always late, if he's completely committed to a tackle there's nothing wrong with him going for the tackle if the player has only just passed the ball, it puts pressure on the man passing.

    This is mainly demonstrations of what is called 'being already committed to the tackle' - or with a meticulous referee late, and a penalty. The Lawes of the land v the Laws of the game. Keep it up Courtney and the rest of the big hitters, and let us hope that Jerome Garces is fair and balanced.

    He is the perfect player to have simply on the field. He increases the chance of a mistake from a 10 exponentially, many of these hits don’t necessarily seem consequential as the ball has already been released towards another player, but after those hits, not only will that player be feeling it for the next few days, for the rest of the game they are going to want to get that ball away as quickly as possible, increasing mistake chances

  • @TheKoodus
    @TheKoodus 4 года назад

    Perfect timing - he is always committed to the tackle when the ball is still in hand. He cant stop flying through the air once he's jumped for the guy. Slow motion makes everything look worse but his timing literally couldn't be better. That also makes lots of the passes perfect when the player gets it away, it's a fraction of a second before he hits. If you're up for taking the damage, those passes are perfect examples of taking the ball to the line haha.

  • @neilbathe7752
    @neilbathe7752 4 года назад

    A most excellent summary of his skills and the fear he engenders in the opposition back line. None of the hits were were considered illegal - and if you watch/rewatch the hit at full speed, then none of them are... In slo-mo all of them look horrific and illegal, but that is the "skill" of the replay... (as shown to referees and TMOs...) My own son plays 9, and if he can't live with that pressure then he shouldn't hope for an international career.... If the 9 (or 10) has passed the ball (prior to the hit) then he has done his job in creating space and taking a defender out of the game, if he can't cope with that he needs to reassess his choices - Courteneys job is to "encourage" them to decide not to attempt it a second, third or fourth time in one match...

    the reason half his tackles are late is because those ones a the most brutal looking, therefore end up on highlight reels. Also, his job in defence is too pressure the 10s, so he can't fuck around waiting for them, he has too commit, and the tens pass quickly as they're under pressure, don't want to get hit with the ball.

    people complaining about late hits have never played in their lives. it's the ball carriers choice to take it up to the line. he can pass early and he'll pull out of the tackle but take it to the line and you'll get smashed. it plays with the ball carriers mind as well "to take up to the line again or not". There's players that take it up to the line every single time, especially nrl players like JT. if the tackler relaxes then he's throwing a dummy and slicing through. He's out there to hit everything.

    Yes I know it frightens the passer on further occasions in the game, which may bring about mistakes, but how can he stop the ball from being distributed in the first place?

This is rugby... if you don’t want to be smashed like that, don’t take the ball close to the gain line?? And with your “What’s the point?”, it’s a psychological battle, not just a physical battle - smashing someone like that puts their head into another space and they will make mistakes more often out of fear of being hit like that again!! You’ve clearly never played a game of rugby in your life, this sport isn’t for you - go watch cricket x
