    There is a guy at my local pistol match that occasionally shows up with a slicked up 929. Every time he shows up, a race revolver moves higher up my list of things to buy.

    I’ve got to tell you guys, I love the revolver content! My grandpa to this day is a single action magnum revolver addict, and passed that addiction on to me. I grew up shooting an old J.P. Sauer .357 single action, and as I got older an identical revolver in .44 magnum. I think it’s time to load them up for a trip to the range! Thank you for the high quality content to get me through the work day!

    I can honestly say as someone who started with the polymer wonders I've found myself migrating to wheel guns just out of boredom. Semi autos vs revolvers to me are automatics transmissions vs manuals. Sure, one can do the job a little better and more efficiently. But one appeals to your soul more. Thats wheel guns for me.

    Grew up with revolvers, Dad was a Sheriff Deputy in the 60s and 70s, shot a 2 1/2inch Python or 4 inch Police Positive shooting jack rabbits. Carried a S&W Model 10 or 64 for 22 years at work, Department didn't switch over to Glock 22 until 2015. I think one of the you guys also miss about the revolver resurgence is the National Assault weapon ban of 1994, when capacity was cut to 10 rounds in magazines, an 8 round 357 mag revolver made sense.

    Love my revolvers. My second handgun was a Ruger SP101 in .22lr to train my fundamentals, and I shot thousands of rounds in double-action. My next revolver was a S&W 629 with a 5" barrel in .44 Mag - probably my favorite gun. I took last year's deer with a 7.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag paired with a 2x scope. My latest pickup is a S&W 625-2 Model of 1989, also a 5" barrel, which has turned out to be the most accurate handgun I own.

    I love my 627. I've shot steel challenge, USPSA, Grouse, Deer hunted (no opportunities), finished a caribou, and had a whole lot of fun. My moon clip tool is a board with a bolt through it and a peice of aluminum bar to press it in. The demooner is a copper pressure tube with a notch cut out.

    I bought my first .22 revolver at age 16 and it was the first pistol I had for years. My second pistol was a .45 Colt/.45 ACP Ruger Blackhawk. I've taken deer and carried it a long time on a chest holster. More recently, I've gotten .32 H&R Magnum, .38 Specials, Taurus 692, which is a cool revolver that has two cylinders and works for 9mm, .38 special and .357 Magnum. My currently planned next hunting handgun is a Taurus 460 S&W Raging Hunter.

    Mark’s comment about early ‘90s cars cracked me up. I bought a Pontiac Bonneville SSEi around 1994. They put every goo gah in that thing they could think up. Pneumatic front seats with 9 inflatable cushions *each*. Adjustable suspension. A heads-up display on the windshield (which sucked in the end because one rock cost over $1,000 dollars). Normal and sport transmission And a supercharger! It wasn’t elegant but it was quick 😎
    P.S. most of my revolvers were manufactured before 1960. American manufacturing genius.
    P.P.S. At 1:13:50 the term Ryan is searching for is “forcing cone”.

      @@jameslovesjammie Hmm, so you can use them to scout but just not X number of days before you hunt? Similair to not hunting the day you fly in Alaska. I was curious if there are any other possible applications of drones.

    • @MrGorrila54
      @MrGorrila54 Месяц назад +3

      Most places you can’t used them to scout day-of-hunt or even to recover game as it’s considered unfair chase. In TN some people offer their services to help track shot deer but they make you sign a waiver saying that they are only helping you locate it.

      That rates right up there with using a tripod turret cuz you are too lazy to even hold your gun. If you cannot find, stalk and hunt game then stay at home. I would rather fail hunting than kill something I did not deserve.

    I LOVE Revolvers! Been a 3 gunner for a while. Bought a 2011. Realized I had no interest in any other semi auto pistols after that and started looking for something cool neat mystical, and romantic like my journey from Glock to Staccato. Revolvers fit that bill nicely!

    From a revolver shooter so cool to hear from next level masters like Adam. 1/4 sec frames? Damn. I have shot combat pistol matches with my 6" 586, 125 moly 38sp, and had a ball. I was invited n own no autos but was totally accepted. Shot top 25% slow but steady and think I have something for them with my lever 357 for the 100yd rifle shoot!!LOL. I am not shooting junk, but if you practice religious range safety, Cool how many groups welcome you in with what ya have.

    The DA revolver is still the best tool when you are in close contact with your opponent. The auto advantages show up as you increase the distance such that the weapon will not come in contact with the participants or their clothing and you can be assured of an optimal grip.

    • @3gunAMax

      Revolvers are so quirky I'm not sure that i agree.

    • @mkshffr4936
      @mkshffr4936 Месяц назад

      @3gunAMax Proximity failures and grip induced malfunctions are virtually unheard of with revolvers. This can be very important when you are "dancing cheek to cheek".
      I am not sure what quirks you are referring to.

    • @DWShooting
      @DWShooting 29 дней назад

      @mkshffr4936 any pressure on the cylinder at all will bind it up. Why do people suggest a gun that is inferior 99% of the time because it MIGHT be superior 1% of the time is a very unlikely scenario

    • @mkshffr4936
      @mkshffr4936 29 дней назад

      @DWShooting Not true. A revolver is much less likely to hang up with casual contact. It is indeed possible by applying pressure to the cylinder to prevent it from turning but one almost has to try to induce that problem. In addition one immediately becomes aware of the problem because of the hard trigger pull and all you have to do is move it slightly to allow it to rotate.
      In a semi-auto the problem is not only easier to induce but also (except for out of battery failure) goes unnoticed until the gun jams requiring two hands to clear.
      Since I don't travel in drug war zones my statistics don't particularly favor the auto. That said I do own and carry an auto and will likely buy more of them with the plan of carrying one of each.
      However in the up close and personal the revolver has real non-trivial advantages.

    In episodes 320 and 358 you spoke about the 1911 and the Beretta 92/M9. Perhaps a Browning Hi-Power episode, even though you touched on the peripheries of the Hi-Power in the 1911 Video. Maybe Ryan might go eclectic and find a rare piece with fantastic blueing or even a rare/eclectic FEG GKK-45 to bring to the table. Now that's an eclectic gun.

    If you want to shoot full power .357 Magnum ammo out of a snub nose revolver relatively comfortably, the Chiappa Rhino is still your best bet. A buddy bought some 200gr hard cast .357 rounds a while back to shoot through his 6.5 inch Blackhawk. I shot a couple through my Chiappa, just to see the difference and it was pretty noticeable. Definitely not a gun you can simply rotate into your EDC due to the significant difference in operation but it’d definitely be a viable option if you’re going to invest the training time.

    You can get the 357 cylinder milled so it’ll except a 9 mm cartridge. Then he could use moon clips then you can shoot 9 mm three or 357 revolver

    That 929 revolver on the table came out in that 2014 time period. I think the cost of the revolvers and .38 ammo vs 9mm with some polymer pistols is a barrier. On top of that with the revolver the biggest roadblock to you getting better is your manipulation of the gun, in some semi-autos, it is faster than you will ever be so the gun is waiting(older Colt Pythons not withstanding) on you instead of the gun, so it is easier to just spend the money on the go fast gun instead of the ammo and time practicing.

    I got into lever guns and revolvers by playing the red dead redemption games. I also always carry my ruger gp100 in 357 with me every time I go hunting. It’s just Incase I need a handier gun than my rifle for defense, or to possibly finish an animal with it (even though I have never needed to do that), or to maybe get a close up shot on a deer that wonders up under my stand.

    I love revolvers. Particularly the vintage (80s and earlier) S&Ws. I often CCW my ‘74 model 36 .38 special in my day to day.
    Are automatics faster to reload, superior in capacity and the modern method? Absolutely, and if I was carrying for work or going into combat it would be an automatic.
    But for in the woods/backcountry, a CCW piece or for the range a wheel gun is hard to beat in my book.
    Also the 627 is on the N-frame. But that .22lr 617 is built on the L-frame. So it’s the same as a 686 and smaller than the 627.
