Following the trail of gold from the rivers into the creeks for the big gold!!

  • It's winter here in Tasmania and my gold prospecting gets much trickier to execute, with shorter days, sopping wet rainforests and swollen river and creeks. So in today's video we shoot back in time to the summer months where the conditions were much better not only for prospecting but for filming with more light through the lenses.
    I'll be joining up with my mate Rob Parsons on an overnight adventure to search for new gold deposits. We'll be pack rafting a new stretch of river and exploring a feeder creek for those good gold deposits.

    All rocks have different MOH scale hardness, depending on what has happened to them ie; volcanic activity, glacier, water, heat, meteor. The base basalt will generally take on a similar hardness because of what minerals it is comprised of and how it was made.

    • @jaredput
      @jaredput Месяц назад

      Each mineral has a specific hardness. Some rock can have multiple hardness depending on which mineral you scratch within the rock. Some rocks become altered which changes the original minerals into other mineral(s). These definitive properties are key to identification.
      Alteration halo/envelope around a vein can create features. Silicification causes hardness and resistive rock. While chloritization (alteration to chlorite, a common alteration associated with gold veins) can make the material around the vein soft and it may wear into a depression.

    I live in Melbourne and all the rivers are to swollen and mud infested to go out ,to many leeches,have to wait until at least the end of August.
    It’s awesome to be able to watch Tassie boys whilst I wait in my house until this very cold Victorian winter is finally over.
    Cheers mate ❄️👍❄️

    Of course we liked it (more than rob apparently lol) it’s crazy how far a stream or river can move from floods all it takes is a large obstruction (large tree or huge Boulder) and it can alter the water way by tens or hundreds of meters in just one flood especially if it’s an alluvial plain instead of a rock bound canyon. Hydraulic flow is amazing. And your absolutely right about sitting on a deposit that’s why the old timers dug all those pits up on benches trying to find the paystreaks from way back when the gold was larger and not beaten to a pulp lol. Was very odd to see that large nugget where it was. Maybe that particular section had a major flood event recently and washed all the bedrock and crevices clean but left it behind if so all the gold that was there is further downstream where the river widened and dropped all the overburden it flushed out (which would be very hard to go through and probably 2-3 feet thick ) great adventure bummer that winter is causing you issues with sniping it will end soon enough I reckon. Thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼

    When Milling Gold Ore,we always blended Ores from different pits.
    As they assisted each other in being broken down.I guess the same occurs in nature when the River erodes different rocks together.Eventually they will all break down around the same time.

Being in the rain in the woods was the best therapy and still is. Sadly no gold bearing creeks or streams nearby but I do rockhound.
