Hi guys, what a lovely day at the Braunston Historic Boat Rally. It was very interesting seeing all the old boats and hearing the history. I love the old steam boats, it must be quite a job keeping the boilers stoked up and it must take up a lot of space to store the coal. The old diesels sound great too. I really enjoyed the episode excellent work guys. Stay safe and I'll see you on the next one.👍🏻👍🏻❤
Thank you Geoff, not everyone’s cup of tea, but we really wanted to share these historic boats, as without them, we wouldn’t have what we have today! So pleased you enjoyed it! Thank you xx
Fantastic seeing all those historical boats, lovely old ladies❤ those sounds ❤ looking forward to new waters with you both and seeing what adventures you get up to 😊 stay safe ❤❤
Those old thumpers sound lovely don’t they, my favourite is the ‘miss a beat’ bollinder engines, great sound! Hope you’re keeping cool in this heat, I believe ice-cream helps 😜 xx
Martin and Julie, I’ve been a silent watcher for over a year, from Australia 🇦🇺 Just wanted to say, I love your vlogs, you do a an amazing job with them. My weekend relaxation is watching Narrowboat vlogging. Keep up the great work.
Aww thank you Neil. Yes, we’re always blown away at the size of some of these old working boats. When you see one coming towards you, the bow is so high, they are just amazing, so so pleased people still maintain them and keep them alive! Thanks Neil xx
Aww so pleased you enjoyed it Donna, we know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but we really wanted to share the old working boats with everyone, so it’s lovely to hear you say this. Thanks Donna! xx
Lovely to see those historic boats. They look in better condition that another boat I could mention. Why is Nikki always eating ?😂. Loved the fact she had to come to your boat with a duvet round her 🤣. Have a great weekend.
Haha 😝 re ‘boat’ 🤪 We loved seeing all those historic working boats. It was so cold that evening, for Nikki to be cold, I just had to film it! 😜 Speak soon matey! xx
Thanks so much for sharing those historic boats with us all. I'm amazed at just how big they are/were! I think of some of the challenges modern-day boaters have with narrow bits and tunnels, then try to imagine those big, old working boats going along the same areas. Those captains were true professionals!
Yes, they certainly know how to manage those big old working boats! Love the sounds of those thumping engines! I think nowadays people are in too much of a hurry sometimes and that’s when things go wrong, slow and steady is the way on the canals, no drama, just calm, relaxing cruising! Thanks Chris! xx
Oh wow, how amazing is that! The history behind some of these boats is just fantastic, if the boats themselves could talk, could you imagine the stories they would tell! Thank you! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB Yes the history is amazing. I have searched old newspapers and found relatives who have lived and died on the barges one also lost his life after falling in a vat of boiling salt in the salt mines other died on barges in WWI very difficult times.
Lovely footage of the rally! 😊 You got such a good angle of all the boats coming in. Weird seeing us from the other point of view haha! The dog with the CRT T-shirt on, soooo cute 😍
I chose that viewpoint the day before lol, it was perfect! We were so surprised to see you both on the Jules Fuels butty, bet that was a fantastic experience to actually be part of the parade! It was a brilliant weekend, we loved it! Glad you enjoyed the video! 😃 Aww that little doggy was the volunteer lockie’s doggy, it was so cute! See you both soon! xx
It was so lovely to see all the old working boats, with their colourful livery and shiny brassware, not to mention the thumper engines, so pleased you enjoyed it! xx

It was great to se the old boats. and to hear the old engines. Stay safe out there you two and Nicki see you next vid Ed 40 S of Vegas in the desert
Wow that must be hot Ed! Our British heat is very humid, so we couldn’t cope with your temperatures! Thank you so much, so pleased you are enjoying our videos, we loved seeing all the old working boats! xx
Great vlog guys. It seems improbable how old some of the boats were. This vlog was certainly different from the norm. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe. ATB . X
Hi Yvonne, yes this was a bit different, but we really wanted to share this with everyone, if it wasn’t for those old working boats, we wouldn’t have the life we have today! It’ll be back to our regular vlogs next time! Thank you Yvonne! xx
Thank you Steve, we loved the show and all the old boats, but I was worried it may have been too long and drawn out, so it’s lovely to hear this, thank you so much! xx
We loved seeing all the historic working boats, so good to see so many still being used and maintained, really pleased you enjoyed it! Thanks David! xx
Great vlog guys nice to see so many old boats even over 100 years today's boats want last that long don't care how well Martin looks after it well you must be the only person that did not know there was a chipy and butcher Julie have a good week guy's
Haha you’re right, nothing is made to last nowadays, yet those old thumper working boats will probably still be around when ours is long gone! Lol, I knew the butchers was there, but didn’t know about the chippy, you can’t beat chippy chips! 😋 xx
Going back to the old boats one good thing they only have a service once a year your lovely boat I think it's every 250 hours so in summer I would think it would be once a month from May to October then rest off year may be 2 more times the older the boat it loves old oil that's why they don't leek unless you change oil more then it leeks because oil is thiner when old it's ficker so don't leek I think I like a old boat
We only do our service once a year. Martin keeps an eye on the oil to make sure it doesn’t get too dark and we do ours usually October, but this year we’re going to do it in September, hopefully the weather will be a bit better 😃👍 xx
Aww thank you, we weren’t sure if it would be everyone’s cup of tea, but really wanted to show all the working boats. After all, if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have the life we do today! Thanks Ruth& David, hope you’re both well xx
Really loved seeing the boats and so glad u left the commentary on, really interesting. Love to have seen you in Braunston having your BBQ! All the best. Kerry snd Colin. NB Time to Pootle x
We really found the commentary interesting, but a lot of people weren’t listening to it, or couldn’t hear it. We were right near the speaker, so we’re in the right place to hear it so we left it in. We really loved Braunston and the old working boats! Thanks Kerry! xx
I think the noises one at the beginning was NB Whitby in the Threefellows livery used for carrying gravel for the Pontylue company,Leicester north in the 1970s.I used to watch them while I was fishing.Bletchley and Banbury boats were part of the fleet.
I wish I could find narrowboat content that deals with life INSIDE the boat. Every video seems to be the view outside the boat. Lovely though that is, how about a bunch of you folks turning the view inward and only inward? That would be a bit different and really informative to we on the land. Thanks.
Hi there, we are trying to bring a little more of life onboard into our videos, so stay tuned! 😃 Thank you so much, so pleased you enjoyed this! Thank you! xx
Amazing vlog with all that floating history, thanx! Now i have a question here, do you know what the horizontal ropey fender bits are called on the bow each side of the buttie?
@@tteric67 lol, you said butty 😂😂 I don’t think they have a specific name, they are rope fenders and you get them in different lengths depending on your boat size. We actually bought ours from a boat trader that makes them on the cut, they really help. Thanks Eric! xx
