Welcome to Day 22 of 30 Days of TWIR. Until tomorrow morning, you can use this comments section to decide what I will review on Day 25. The most-liked suggestion when I wake up tomorrow will be locked in for Saturday. I’ll recap the rules here, but for a deeper explanation, check out the Announcement video: ruclips.net/video/lQHsiv2jFak/видео.html
Suggestions that do not follow the rules will be ignored or even deleted:
    1) One suggestion per person per video.
    2) No more than three of any given type (movies, games, etc.) in a row.
    3) Should be experience-able in under 3 hours and cost less than $15 (possibly flexible).
    4) No works by credibly accused predators.
The next two reviews are the game are the films The Wolf House and I’m Your Man. The full schedule is available here: theweekireview.com/events/month/2022-01/

I was there for this concert. I disagree about it feeling like a "show" because it was in Japan. This concert was planned(and tickets were sold) before it happened, it could have been in Korea, or any other country they regularly do concerts at. And it wasn't like they chose to continue the concert because of money, full refund was offered to anyone who wanted to cancel their tickets. In fact, this concert was the least "show-y" out of all the concerts they've done. They were mourning and had limited time to prepare, but the audience weren't there to see a perfect performance(people who were only interested in perfect performances would have cancelled their tickets because it was obvious it wasn't going to happen). We were there to show support for the group through their hard times, to acknowledge their strength and decision to continue their artistry despite it all. It was a space where we grieved and supported each other.

I was there live during the 2-days Tokyo Dome Concerts, I flew to Japan to watch it. 2 weeks or so prior the Tokyo Dome Stages, SHINee did 2 same shows in Kyocera Dome Japan. It was Jonghyun's mom who encouraged them to proceed with it and to continue. Jonghyun's family, SHINee members' families were with them during the con and I know they got a lot of courage from that fact. The entire concert was just about love for Jonghyun, as their brother as an artist.

Thank you for taking the time in watching and listening to their concert, I appreciate it much. And you can relax when talking about shinee, the fandom (shawol) is one of the kindest & well mannered fandom out there. We do acknowledge that not everyone is going to like all their music, that is a fact and we do respect that. Shinee and shawols reflect each other, the fans' image is shinee's image and shinee's image is the fans image. We are a fandom who loves music and appreciates shinee, we don't encourage toxicity that's not our thing.

All throughout the con SHINee and us in the audience smiled cried laughed sometimes at the same time.. twas a mix of emotions. But the dome was full of love, gratitude for each other, like warm hugs from each other.
From Now On Concert was not like SHINee's usual concerts that run for like 3 HOURS + with full on hardcore chore, chill to ballads to fun to what have yous, twas shorter, more intimate, less talks for obvious reasons but twas a special one, bittersweet but somehow SHINee and Shawols both needed it. The members poured their hearts out in the performances. It also became the venue for them to comfortably speak their minds and show their emotions. Start of healing I'd say.

SHINee is aways 5. 5HINee, actually. SW:FNO is such a hard concert to watch. I streamed 2 of the concerts live and...we needed it. SHINee and shawols, we needed to grieve together. The accustions hurled at them from some quarters (you can guess) were absolutely disgusting, and until very recently they didn't talk about Jonghyun in public at all. Key mentioned how much he missed Jonghyun during their recent comeback and now we feel free to talk about him, too. Jonghyun will forever be more than that day. His incredible music, his book, his radio show and solo concerts - we'll never forget him, not ever.
SHINee have always been genuine and honest, which is quite amazing given the kpop industry. They are collectively known as some of the kindest idols in kpop, which is only one of the reasons why they're so beloved. They are your idol's Idol, no lie.
It's okay that the concert didn't capture you musically. It quite honestly is the last one I would have recommended a newbie watch. Be that as it may, thank you for your review. I hope you give SHINee anoterr listen some day. I recommend: Excuse Me Miss, Moon River Waltz, Don't Call Me, and Area. All members are soloists, so um, maybe you can check out Jonghyun's music some time as well (either for review or not!)? For Jonghyun: Deja Boo and Crazy, live at Tokyo Dome, She Is, and Shinin', which is his last video. All written and composed by him, because he was a genius, the Prince of Korea. (Prince prince, from MN).

For some context as an ELF (fan of Super Junior), the fandoms of the second generation of K-pop are much more understanding (I really hope). Most of us are older than the fans of the current big K-pop sensations, so I feel like we a) are better at understanding the difference between someone being actively hateful against our group vs. someone giving their opinion, and b) are too tired and have other aspects of our lives to focus on instead of doxing someone.
I listen to SHINEE's music tangentially, as it comes up on my recommended via Super Junior, and I never skip their songs - they're always enjoyable to listen to, and I hope the Shawols who come across this video treat you well ~

I just want to say Kpop is not a monolith, sure there a tones of groups out there that are exactly what you imagine all Kpop to be, but then you have groups like SHINee who are just group of passionate guys who love to preform, and who have worked their asses off for over 13 years to grasp the amount of creative freedom they have now. They’ve resigned with their company twice by the time this concert came, once in 2016 and then resigned again right after jonghyun’s death, each time negotiating better terms for creative freedom with in their company. So no they where not forced to do any of this they literally where given the chance the walk away from all of this , but for these guys this is their true happiness and passion. You might not be able to see the amount of passion they have for preforming in this concert cause they where grieving greatly, but watch any other concert of theirs and you’d see

thanks for this review. i flew out to Tokyo for the Tokyo dome shows for this concert, and being there in person was honestly one of the most painful yet healing experiences i've ever been in. the air was heavy with grief, sobs of the audience were echoing in the dome during the tribute segments. our boys really love each other so much, they grew up together and were closer to each other than their own family members. they carried on with this concert merely 2 months after it happened, because of the love they have for jonghyun and for each other, and for us, and also because it's the last project they'd agreed on to do as a five-member group. this concert was meant to be a reunion concert of sorts because it had been a while since their last Japan tour, but things took such a tragic turn and it felt so much worse. SHINee is the best and most talented group there is in the industry, with jonghyun being one of the best vocalists/performers/artistes in the world of our era. and they will continue his legacy for decades to come

Shawols are a peaceful fandom. We love them but it is ok if you don't. This concert can be difficult but it is also a beautiful celebration of his achievements. The members felt it was important to grieve with the fans as there is a very real understanding that we (fans) lost him too.
    Thanks for checking them out.

Thanks for bringing attention to Shinee. It must be jarring to start with From Now On as first impression. Can you believe there were actually people hating on them for 'capitalizing' on the tragic event to promote their concert?
For context: yes, manufactured responses in their first few years are definitely there and they've even admitted it was a business relationship at one point but after around 2014 to 2015, you can see they sincerely care for another like family and they've personally mentioned many times outside of their work. Family - not friends. They fight and they may not show much public displays of affection but there will always be love.
The loss of Jonghyun was hard on everyone, even outside of the kpop industry. He was the host of Blue Night Radio and it was a place where he shed his 'idol image' and connected with the listeners and he was also very vocal about supporting the LGBTQ community and other minorities. He and the members are genuinely good people and that is something you can't fake.
I really recommend their Shinee World Tour 4. They really know how to put on a show.

Jonghyun thought no one was interested in the 'real' him. What he didn't know was that we could quite clearly see the kind and generous soul who happened to be a great artist and who was obviously very loving and genuinely lovable.

I’m a newer shawol aka-a babywol! That’s not to say we are young, I’m not:) I became a fan in 2018. I found the fandom quite ‘mature’ in their ways. I think fans are reflective of the group and SHINee has always kept fans at check and keep reminding to be kind to others and oneself.
I have seen the toxic behavior of the fandom you mention early in the video and somewhat witnessed it first hand, though nowhere close to the extent you describe. That to me was unfortunately a turn off to explore that group in any meaningful way.
I don’t expect everyone to love SHINee’s music as we are all different and our tastes in music vary. But one thing for sure, as individuals you can’t but help admire them for how they have navigated the industry and made changes to it along the way,, many new artists look up to them and prompted them to dive into kpop.
Explore SHINee if you wish, watch their variety shows. There are several. Be a part of the fandom if you want, be a casual listener, do as you wish, and have fun!
If you want something different - watch Sea of Hope- Onew from SHINee was a part of the show. Also Rose’ from BP guested the show. Loved the show. There are clips on YT.

Thanks for this review. Don’t worry about Shawols coming after you, even if you say SHINee’s music is just “good”… the worst you’ll get from us is a full inbox of SHINee recommendations to attempt to change your mind about them. 😂
One thing I will say, though, is that this narrative that all Kpop groups are manufactured misses a lot of nuance. It is easy to say that all Kpop groups are manufactured because of the amount of control agencies have over many aspects of an idol’s life, their presentation as idols, their music they produce, etc. It is true this is still an issue even to today. Even SHINee was heavily managed at the beginning, to the point of being provided personalities that they were supposed to adhere to (for example, Minho was supposed to be the quiet, mysterious one… which is ridiculous for someone so passionate and loud all the time). But I think there is some element of reason for why the Kpop industry works this way and also that there are plenty of artists who buck this trend.
For example, I think it is a lot more common for new groups to be heavily controlled, so they can be presented as a picture-perfect package of Idolness, promoting a particular and specific brand. And yes, most of the time these are the groups who are required to behave a certain way to fill a specific role and who have little creative input, who are selected and put together in a group to fit a certain image the company wants to sell. It does make some sense if a company is investing in them; they want the group to perform perfectly and bring in the money, and yes this is very businesslike and manufactured.
But the more established a group gets in the industry, the more freedom they have creatively and personally. Artists like SHINee write their own songs (Jonghyun was writing songs even from their debut back in 2008, and Minho was writing his own raps from all the way back then too). They are heavily involved in the creative process now. Key and Taemin (SHINee members) both released title tracks in the last few years where they had extensive involvement in the creation of the songs and the MVs; Taemin was even involved in the editing for the MV. Key frequently designs stage fashion for the group, and Taemin assists in developing choreo (or creates his own). And SHINee isn’t the only group with this kind of creative freedom and control over their own music and image. Super Junior has their own sub-label within SM. Artists like Hyuna and Dawn left their agency due to a requirement not to date each other and are now doing well with another agency, releasing the music they want to.
What my point is (besides highlighting that SHINee is insanely talented) is that saying a blanket statement like “Kpop is manufactured” is easy and the cliche narrative but it ignores the individual input into the creative process that many idols have now and also reduces idols to basically dolls with no control over anything, only designed to perform what they are given to perform. While yes, it still remains controlled and manufactured to some extent (which, yes, can be a problem including serious issues of slave contracts and mistreatment), it overlooks significant accomplishments of many of these artists who are more than just performers but musicians in their own right.
Anyway, just wanted to express my opinion. I do recognize that there are still issues with many aspects of the Kpop industry. But every time someone says “Kpop is manufactured” it feels like just a way to put down the whole industry (and even deride the music itself) without considering that it is more than just that.
Thanks again for the review! I thought it was very interesting. From Now On is a very challenging concert to watch and review and is still extremely painful for many of us Shawols, myself included. It is cathartic but emotionally draining, so thanks for taking it on. I know this concert didn’t sell you entirely on SHINee but I hope you will listen to some of their other music. They have really worked hard and contributed a lot to their music over many years and are not simply performers (although they are insanely talented performers too 😎👍).

Six months ago, just beginning to discover kpop, I stumbled across Jonghyun's Moon, and I was lost. In finding more of his music and learning about him I came across Shinee's Our Page MV, which is a tribute to Jonghyun by Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin, with lyrics they wrote together to express their feelings about him. Watching that MV turned me into a shawol even before I knew much about the group or their music. There was so much love and grief and connection; it was heartbreaking and extraordinarily beautiful and made it clear to me that Shinee was something special and real (and very talented).
I only know enough about the kpop industry to know that SM got magic as an end result of putting these particular 5 guys together and that the guys themselves brought their crazy-level talent and hard work into becoming a genuine, deeply connected family.

You don't need to worry about that NONSENSE with SHAWOLs. We are a much older fandom (I'm late 50s) and understand that everyone has their own tastes in music and don't get hung up on emotions and "feelings". We are a kind fan group and would never, ever think of threatening violence on anyone. So don't worry about us getting on your case. If we don't like something you say...we'll move on.
SHINee was hugely popular in the UK as early as 2011 when they became the very first Kpop group to hold an individual concert in London as the opening gala for the 6th London Korean Film Festival and America where they stole the show during KCon 2016, as thousands of US SHAWOLs packed the venue. SHINee even got a shout out from former President Obama in 2017 when he told his audience to "Watch out for the band, SHINee". This was because his daughters were fans of the group. Lastly, SHAWOLs from the US and other Western countries have been begging SM for a Taemin World Tour for years! The closest we've gotten is with SuperM. So it's not a lack of interest in SHINee that prevents them being seen in the US....It's SM. This is where SM fails, promoting and marketing their artists.
SHINee was given the option to forgo that 2018 concert. Despite all the haters and other negative commenters saying they were doing it for the money and to somehow profit from Jonghyun's death, they chose to do it anyway. Their reasoning? Although they said those comments hurt them terribly, they wanted to honor Jonghyun's wish to perform as SHINee forever, as well as provide a safe place where they and SHAWOLs could grieve openly, celebrate Jonghyun's legacy, and memorialize him. They, and we, don't want him to be forgotten. Onew stated it best when he said that SHINee is 5 forever. There has never been a Kpop group closer than the SHINee hyungs. This was noticed and made them famous as the group with the most skinship, and they never put on an act. They are very open about the fights in the very early days and how Minho and Key hated each other at first. In fact, they laugh about it. However, through all of that, they grew to love each other as true brothers and consider each other family. Only a strong, loving group like that could stay together through such tragedy and to honor the memory of the one who left prematurely. At the end of that concert, you got to see and realize why we SHAWOLs have stuck with and supported SHINee for over 13 years and will continue to do so. They are real. They don't put on shows because they are told to. They pretty much have full control over their careers at this point. They genuinely love what they do and love their fans, as we love them. They have vowed to remain together for as long as they are able. As Taemin has said, even when they are in their 50s and 60s, he wants his brothers to live together in one building, so they are always around him and he can hear them above him, below him, and beside him.
I'm glad you mentioned how they still leave a space open for Jonghyun. They do that to this day. With their recent 2020 and 2021 comebacks, you can see, especially in "Atlantis", how they leave that space open for him. They also still think of him when writing songs. 2021's song, "Area", written by Minho is an absolutely beautiful song regarding how they feel about the loss of Jonghyun. I recommend you listen to it.
Regarding mental health issues in Korea, yes, it has been a forbidden issue. However Jonghyun's death actually got the industry talking about those issues. This was the only tiny thread of potential good coming from the tragedy. Now, with Taemin's issues that have been recently revealed, we see that SM, just as they did with Jonghyun, has taken the matter very seriously. He arrived at base camp with medication indicating that he was being seen and/or helped prior to entering the service. SM also gave him a warm video during SHINee's 13th anniversary show with management, back-up dancers, directors/producers, his SHINee brothers, and even Lee Soo Man himself, giving Taemin encouragement and well wishes and assurances. It's the first time I've ever seen that. SM couldn't have prevented Taemin from going to the military. They have no control over that or getting him out of the situation. However, in the end, SM were the ones to make the announcement that Taemin had been reassigned to Public Service due to his worsening mental health in the military. Minho then provided us with a Bubble message telling us not to worry that he and his SHINee brothers were with him. That instantly reassured us. That's the love of SHINee.
Thank you for your heartfelt video and very sincere care with your message.

Thank you for your review, how I wish I could be articulate like you. Your inputs are very much appreciated and just like SHINee which I mostly described as the most sincere group apart from their amazing artistry. I find you sincere as well. I really hope you could check their music and would like to know your honest feedbacks. They're an experimental group, so expect a unique approach on almost all of their songs. You may check their recent ones, just click the tags :)

This is my first time recommending something, but I think the first 3 episodes of Lucifer (on Netflix) would be fun to review. They take a very tongue-in-cheek approach to religion and therapy, which made me enjoy it all the way through.

I am once again going to suggest season one of Review from Comedy Central in all its metatextual glory. Just because some of you don’t know it, doesn’t mean you won’t love to see a review of it. Just help me win for once, y’all!!!

All you need to know about this concert is that it went on as scheduled SIX WEEKS after Jonghyun killed himself. SIX WEEKS. No time for the members or anyone else to even begin to process, let alone grieve, the fact of Jonghyun's death, no time for anything but these four guys to get right into the rehearsal studios and begin rearranging vocals and choreo for this concert. Because you are mistaken: There were MANY changes to both vocals and choreo. They did not merely pipe in Jonghyun's vocals as recorded, they re-distributed most of the vocal lines to account for his absence. And while they frequently left Jonghyun's space in choreo empty, most of the songs were rearranged to accommodate his absence.
This means the surviving members were in rehearsals within DAYS of Jonhyun's death. Key has said it was forbidden to speak Jonghyun's name during those rehearsals and no one did. I thought you were headed in a sensible direction at the beginning of this video, but you veered into K-Pop psycho-land by the end. That's a place where disrespecting a founding member you've worked with for ten years by going ahead with a concert SIX WEEKS after his death as if he wasn't integral to your sound and identity, is considered a normal thing to do. This tour wasn't done FOR Jonghyun. Had that been the case, SM would have offered free admission. They didn't. They had the gall to call it a "memorial service" as they sold merch and CDs and light sticks. First such "memorial service" I've ever heard of.
The lesson to take from this tour is just how bloodthirsty and insanely driven the K-Pop industry and its fan cultures, which drives many celebs to suicide, ARE, not how lovely the last song of this performance was in all its morbid, showy horror. Korea has the HIGHEST suicide rate by far, in the developed world, twice that of the U.S. The pressures that drove this concert to NOT be at least postponed, and that drove these four jerks to go along with it, are a big part of why Jonghyun, and many other "idols," are dead at their own hand.
    Your video is shameful.

Day fifteen of requesting Douglas G Johnson’s 1977 short film The Phone Call. It is a 24 minute story of one bassoon-playing high schooler, who wants to ask a girl out, however to do so must build confidence by learning karate, however to do so must earn money, so he gets a job at a drive-in burger and ice cream restaurant.
    It’s free on RUclips

It’s scary how far some Armys go. Doxxing over a personal opinion about music, how do they justify that to themselves when BTS’s whole schtick is “love yourself” and anti-bullying? I used to enjoy listening to BTS but instead now I do all that I can to distance myself from them and their fans. It is too much headache to deal with them sometimes…
Of course other fandoms have their problem members too, no fandom is perfect. But the sheer level of Armys who behave poorly to others is disheartening and scary.

I'm suggesting Season 1 of Inside No. 9, a British black comedy anthology series. However, my attempts at using poetry and reverse psychology to gain likes have failed me so, for this one, I will phrase the suggestion in binary, in order to trick RUclips bots into liking it.
