- Welcome to back to Street Pigeon MTB and another build video.
In this video the guys at Bird Cycleworks build up their latest enduro MTB, the Bird Aeris 9. Make no bones about it, this is a serious piece of kit. The crazy thing is, we did the build for under £5000! It certainly begs the question. Is this the best MTB for under £5000?
Rather than me tell you about the Aeris 9 enduro MTB, I'll let Bird do the talking. After that, you can decide whether we built the ultimate enduro MTB for under £5000.
"Since our first full-suspension bike was released in 2014, five frames have carried the Aeris name. The sixth one, builds on everything we’ve learned from previous Aeris iterations, and adds in some extra goodness.
The Aeris 9 is a 29” wheeled all-mountain machine with a bias towards gravity racing. 160mm of rear travel in its standard form gives way to an optional linkage upgrade to increase that to near DH rig levels of travel - 180mm - all while retaining our usual pedaling response and geometry. A completely new tubeset for the Aeris 9 also means you can match this increased travel up front with a 180 fork without troubling your warranty. As Enduro tracks get longer, rougher and more challenging, we’ve upped our Aeris game to ensure our riders and racers can keep it on the podium.
Designed, optimised and tested for gravity riding and packed full of new features, the new Aeris 9 was devised while dreaming of long alpine descents and has been tested on the gnarliest bike park tracks in the UK and beyond our borders in EWS races worldwide.
Our aim for the Aeris 9 is to create the best value gravity-focussed bike on the market. It still keeps our outstanding pedaling efficiency with fine-tuned anti-squat and size-specific seat tube angles for each frame size to help keep the rider’s weight distribution where it needs to be, aiding optimum handling and pedaling.
With these features on the Aeris 9 this is a bike that will keep you rolling faster, for longer:
29 Inch Wheels
Chainstay flip chips, allowing you to increase chainstay length while slackening out the bike for a more stable, gravity focused ride.
160 or 180mm rear travel
160 to 180mm fork
Full double lip oil/dirt seals on our new oversize main pivot axle for maintenance free bearings.
ISCG05 mount
SRAM UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger)
UDH rear axle included
Flexible internal or external cable routing allows for either way routing without spoiling the clean looks in either option. Racers and home mechanics can opt for full external routing for minimum fuss, while still allowing for the clean looks of an internally routed bike if that’s your preference.
Room for the biggest coil piggybacks and still get a good size bottle in our smallest frames.
Threaded bottom bracket
No cables through the headset or bars, because we don’t hate you.
Aeris 9 framesets come complete with axle and UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger).
All Bird framesets come ready to build with clean chased BB threads, tapped ISG05 mounts and axle threads, as well as fully faced BB and headtube."

Nice Marcus. Really appreciate the comments mate. I can't sing the praises of the guys at Bird enough. Such a nice crew and the bikes are banging. Next week's video is going to be a monster of a vid. Cannot wait to share it with you 🤙

Nice bike!
Thanks Ross. I'm totally in love with it ❤️
That is one good looking ride mate
Cheers Darren. It's a complete slayer on the trails 🤙
A great build!
Looking forward to seeing it in a future vlog. Will it be possible for you to do a more detailed parts selection breakdown of it?
Overbiked? Who cares!
Cheers matey. I have to say, I'm enjoying being over biked 🤣 I am working on the next video which should show a bit more of the bike parts.
I did like the saddle and the 80's paint job.
Just need to get an 80s soundtrack to play as I ride it 😁
@@streetpigeonmtb Probably something by frankie goes to hollywood like relax
You know me well 🤣
Word! Sorry, a Family Guy fan and could not help myself🤣
On a bit more serious note, a few slow mo vidoes of you smashing through some gnar would be awesome, 180/170mm of travel obliges, want to see how much more capable this bike is comparing to the previous one (It looks amazing and it probably is the best value bike with spot on geo btw!)
Ha ha. Family Guy fans are more than welcome here 🤣 First impressions video out next Monday same time. That has a more in depth approach to how the bike rides and even some sexy slow mo 😁
I’m not far from the factory.Do they allow visitors to discuss builds or test rides or were you just a special guest?
Hey man. They would be more than happy to discuss build options with you and there would be options for you to demo rides. Deffo check them out 👍
Nice build that mate. Hoping to get one myself next year. Just can’t pick between this or the am9 though. Hoping to use it for racing enduro what would you recommend?
I absolutely love the AM9. It is bloody brilliant. However the Aeris 9 just takes it to the next level. If you go AM9 it'll feel like an aggressive trail bike that is more than capable of enduro racing. The Aeris 9 is a full enduro beast capable of gravity and even DH if you fancied. If the enduros you are racing are steep and rough the it's the Aeris 9 for me.
Nice1 bud that’s it then, aeris9 it is 👍 just gotta wait for more stock of that beautiful blurple
Enjoy mate. I honestly think you'll be blown away!
Bike looks unreal. Reckon I'm gonna pick up an Aeris 9 in the Raw finish. Just wondering how it compares in pedalling ability to your AM9? And if you feel overbiked on many trails? Cheers
It's so nice mate. Still a head turner!
I'd say, overall it pedals similarly to AM9. Worse on the flat because of the weight but better on the steep because of the seat tube geometry.
My build is very enduro so it is total overkill for trail centre stuff. On off piste, enduro or mountain trails it is king.
If I were you I'd just carefully pick the components around the trails you ride 👌
Cheers mate that's very good advice. Reckon I'll go for the 160mm Zeb to start with and then swap it out for 180 down the line if it's needing it. Glad to hear it's pedal efficient as these laps of the Golfie are rough on my current bike. Hoping to Demo an Aeris 9 at tweedlove this saturday
Ah nice. Let me know how you get on. Might see you down there 🤙
Looks amazing! Looking forward to the review...are you going to try it in both settings?
Hi mate. First impressions video Monday at 7pm if all goes to plan. I will deffo try it in 180mm at the rear when I manage to get a linkage 👍
Nice bike build buddy is that Hope Technology hubs I see, or do my eyes deceive me?
Hope Pro 4s buddy. Really solid and reliable. I also think they look 👌
@@streetpigeonmtb I knew it Hope technology founded in my hometown Barnoldswick that’s my claim to fame right there haha
Definitely looking absolutely class 👌and suit that bike I believe Hope have brought out Pro 5’s now
@TheGreenFingeredMTBer I think you are right. Bet they are brilliant 👏
Lusting after that lustrous frame colour. Really stunning 😍. Shame it's SRAM drivetrain. but what ya gonna do? 😝
🤣 Each to their own. I'm a big SRAM drivetrain fan. Hate their brakes though! For stopping power I always go Shimano 👍😁
@@streetpigeonmtb totally agree we all find what works for us. In fairness never actually owned a bike with SRAM but borrowed some and found it clunky. Also get used to the trigger pull so much. I like Shimano brakes. Only got Deore but never felt wanting 👍
Mega, can see me upgrading my Aether9 to an Aeris at some point
Nice. They are total beasts mate. If you ride much gravity, steep or rough then you'll love it.
@@streetpigeonmtb Used to ride DH, the Aether is my first bike in ages but forgot im all about the descents 😅
🤣 Aeris 9 it is then. You'll love it. Mini DH bike if ever there was one 💪🤙
@@streetpigeonmtb once I get back into the fitness and swing of being on a bike I'll start looking at making the change up to the bigger bike 👌
Nice bud 👍
what frame size did you go for?
Hi mate. I'm 189cm and went for L. Saying that, I've tried XL and reckon I could've gotten on well with that also 👍
Can you go mullet on this bike?
Hey Alan. Bird are working on a linkage as we speak... So yes, you will be able to 👍
What height are you with the large frame?
189 cm or just under 6ft3 👍
i like your video .. cool ...
Thanks mate 👍
Oh that's shiny shiny
It is indeed... See how long that lasts!
@@streetpigeonmtb not long me thinks ,but it does look the mutts nuts
Cheers man 👍
