I'm another who's pre ordered this frame. I've been riding the AM9 for the last 3 years and it's been excellent certainly better than the evil following v1 I had before it. Nice honest review, in January they'll be offering the new vivid shock with it so hopefully that will improve things.
If our first impressions from riding the Vivid Air on other bikes is anything to go by, it'll be a killer combination. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives!
I test rode similar small & big brand MTB’s went with & been on a Aether 9A here for a while with RS SDU & a 150 Pike & has been superb ; no doubt that thing ☝️ ( Aeris ) is immense 👌.. looks sounds a truly lovely riding machine.
Great review as always, & good luck to the brand. A lifelong joke of mine is saying “extra-medium” for various things. People are like what?!? So I call the size between medium and large “Extra-Medium”. Trademark! You heard it here first.😄👍
Nice Review! Seems that I made the right selection to order one of these. What are your thoughts about the lateral stiffnes of the rear end? And can you tell a word about the small bump sensitivity of the AMs rear suspension, and how good it handles breaking forces? Would also be nice if you had the time to test the Mullet Option. Cheers. R.
Stiffness hit a nice balance. Small bump sensitivity was good, but a coil or shock like a Vivid Air would improve it further. It’s fairly typical Horst link under braking, rear end remains relatively free to move. We didn’t have the time to test the mullet option, and for this kind of bike don’t see the need for the smaller rear wheel. With the mullet chainstay position the balance of the bike is likely to suffer but it’ll be more playful.
That's very much going to depend on what you want to ride. Where is your preference of climbing efficiency and agility vs comfort and aggressive riding potential?
Exactly what I’m looking for! A good all rounder - glad I’ve pre-ordered one! Also they’ve now release the 2nd colour which is Grurple (green/purple)
Should do you well then! Yes indeed they have, and it looks good…but we reckon this black is what we’d go for. 😎
Bird This Aeris AM Was A Review Fun One 🤔

Glad to hear it, it's a great all round machine for sure.

Perhaps when available an update test on an R4? Just to see? Does look like an excellent all-round package and Bird are great to deal with.
