I think this is for everyone a winner who understands dance, what's dancing all about. Because everyone who want's to dance or everyone who's dancing, all of them are doing 1 thing...and that is DANCE. What I am tryna say is that everyone is dancing on his or her way, the way of their own interpretation of it. But we all have the same LOVE for it! ALOT OF RESPECT FOR THIS ROUTINE-MESSAGE!
to modern millenia: it seems that the choreo from the camp to the company now... is shaun's choreo growing and evolving. his choreo has evolved into a masterpiece!! i've always loved his choreo.....
i come back to this vid like every week to gauge peoples interpretations , its cool to see. . Looking at pats piece again , I got the feeling that he was trying to express the idea of dancing when he younger and dancing when he is older. pat i feel like represented himself back in the day , when things were less complicated and people just danced for fun with friends , or maybe to impress a girl. And it didn't matter what people thought. he did if for himself
and then the ending piece is where they finally just straight up dance with no extra stuff, it's just pure dance, and that's where shaun joins them. this set is extra deep yo. shaun's mind is out in space man lol
now, i didn't understand that they were running around the stage while the others were dancing to begin with...but if you watch it over and over again, and read the comments, it all made sense...i mean...if they weren't "running" around the stage, then it would have been even more difficult to understand their message...in overall, what they did was just freaking GENIUS. I have no idea how u can create a concept so unique and so good. i mean, if i ran around like that, my team would have lost...
ii still seing this a year after and i still pretty amazed .. one of the best sets in the world if not the best ... i see this piece like 6 time a month & always i feel inspired . & give them props ! ... this PIECE should be like written on the books of dance ! to the others generation could apreciatted !
part 2 the company might not have so many flashy moves, but in my opinion, they're one of the few crews out there that's still very expressive when they dance...they probably dont even need music when they dance, because their dancing pretty much tells a story for itself :P and that's why we (or at least I) love the company
agree completely. Shaun is not saying you shouldn't use those gimmicks but i think its more like he wants people to understand the importance of dance over gimmicks. The crowd was pretty quite during some of the choreo scenes. Then Shaun does that hand clap to see if the audience did see it for its creativity.
this may be kind of a shock to many if not all of whoevers reading this....but the real brainchild behind all of this is pat. he doesn't mind that you think its shaun...he thinks its cool actually...mostly funny tho. i guess its considered a compliment if you make something and credit is given as genius...even if its to the wrong person. shaun does guide pat and he takes in every input that shaun gives...but pat did orchestrate EVERYTHING...even the blocking of shauns piece. -mike
This is just one aspect of the whole concept, but I think they're trying to get people to appreciate them for the right reasons. Their sets have always been "thinkers", but audiences just never got that part until now. I think they've always wanted people to see them for their creativity through their intelligence, not their gimmicks. It just shows that it takes more to watch creative performances than just having a set of eyes, but to have an awareness of genuine creativity.
Well to continue on the interpretations, i think the fourth piece is more like a reminder for the audiences to revert back to the basics of what is dance and moreover what is art. There are multiple definitions to this and what i personally think, if i may say, is the interpretation of an individual's expression of herself/himself. The mirror reflections of what happens in the studio or choreography is a reflection of how the dancer feels in real life either it may be true or in message form..
(PART 4b) then it's jeka's turn to show them what dancing is. she starts her piece out with a small group, and you can see that as the song goes along, more and more people are joining in and coming to a realization. eventually, they all finally get together to and do straight choreo at 3:33. pat and shaun sit to watch the result of their revelation. finally, pat's piece is where all the dancers dance with meaningful choreography that tells a story. continue with tina's part 5/6. -jason
holy shit ok i knew shaun was good but... my god .. its so awesome that the crowd to was able to appreciate what an awesome performance they put on too but damn man... when shaun started that last routine i could not take my eyes of him man, BEAST/GENIUS/GOD
i wasn't talking about the company in my last comment... i was talking about diversity off of britains got talent and how the company's message in this piece directly reflects how diversity are not a real dance crew
i've been following subi for a little while..and i always noticed in the comments ppl compare him to shaun alot and try to give shaun credit for all of this work..im sure the piece in this performance shut all the skeptics up for good..seeing as it was a message to all of you
someone posted a comment down there saying the company had the sacrifice 1st place, which is true to an extent. but i think they went into this competition to tell their story regardless if they won or not., i dont think they cared about that. and another thing is i give pat cruz and shaun alot of respect for doing something like this in a competition. takes alot of guts. when i first watched this video it looked like eveythting was all over the place.but now i understand it so well. props.
FINALLY, now I get it!!! LOL! Looking at everybody's comments on the interpretation of this piece really helped! :o) Thank you thank you! Now with that in mind, it just makes this piece that much more sweeter! The Company freakin ROCKS!!! Should have taken 1st without a doubt yo!
seeing shaboobs' opinion, now that i watch it with that in mind, i agree with where he's going. as the dancers do all these things like ripples and other things like he said, the directors are acting like, "you don't need all that, stop and just dance." the part you're talking about, kvgisme, is the piece where they finally dance in the way shaun sees it should be danced. you can see shaun's immediate style in that piece, and at the end of that, shaun applauds them and is like, "yes that's it!"
thanks for digging deeper! :P and yea, i totally agree with you about the ripple. i mean, i see alot of people using ripples nowadays, which of course looks dope. but, the thing is that...dance is starting to kinda become more like a videogame for many people nowadays...like, more and more people are starting to dance out of the wrong reason. "oh, look, i can do this move and this move, oh that move is not that cool" is probably how some people are thinking nowadays, if you know what i mean
i totally agree with you on placement. i actually thought common ground edged out choreo cookies this year. my opinion: 1st - CG 2nd - CC 3rd - Company/Formality/Meccamee (can't choose! I'm somewhat biased toward the Company though, I'm a huge Evaristo fan)
yeah the Companies pieces of late , you gotta watch it a bunch of times to get it all , which is why I like to watch them because you can watch it so many more times after that and you find new things . Its like the re playability factor. Imo It seems like in the beginning shaun is describing all the stress of trying to be innovative and bring something new since so many people look to him for inspiration. He has to run a crew, organize it , and dance in it himself as well.
@tinasuckss I know this is old, but I just had to say major props for deciphering all of that. The way the choreo plays with the audience really is genius. However, I can't agree with the concept. There's nothing wrong with applauding for ripple effects and hyped up choreo. It's not like every dance has to tell a story. I always thought of dancers and choreographers as artists who had respect for everyone else in their field. I never thought there were elitist dancers, but I guess I was wrong
wow I just noticed something new. In Subi's piece when the songs goes: "ask them originals, 'cause they know' the 2 groups point at Pat and Shaun! Awesome metaphor.
i love shaun and pat's work!!! they're my fav choreographers out there. this is pure brilliance. and where do people see the drug message of this piece?? UHM NO... maybe y;all should think more into it. lol. anyway RESPECT to the company !!!!!!!
Oh yeah, just want point out, but the first piece where the lyrics go "What should I do? When can I, talk to you with my antenna?" pretty much means when are you going to understand what we we do and why we do it. I think they chose the song spec. for that purpose but I could be mistaken.
@tinasuckss supreme soul did the same thing at wod, which pissed people off. mad love to ss and the co for staying true to themselves and not selling out.
@tinasuckss it looks like they're portraying not just the music video but how choreographers put things together (that people don't usualy notice)... both shaun and pat are kinda directing people where to go and what to do... I guess their trying to show how it is behind the scenes...
everyone should read the comments on the interpretation of this piece. To be honest, i wouldn't have been surprised if they didnt place again this year like how they get robbed at every competition. The only joy in that would've be for the judges to find out how damn wrong they were. GJ to the company to placing second on dance alone because no way in hell the judges understood this on one go.
i see what your saying... it looks like shaun is directing the piece as it goes along. but the routine at 4:14 and how that same routine ends doesnt fit that concept...... but to be honest i dont have a better explanation and it makes me appreciate this set soo much more with some idea of what its about :)
fuckkkkkkkkk!!! that last piece, shaun got character written all over his face... literally. He animates the rest of the group into his lead with the mood he forces on the song.
i've watched all the crew and i can only say this.. all of them are CHAMPIONS.. but the judges has to choose one because of the formality of the contest.. i mean, someone has to win right?
ARE YOU F'N SERIOUS . . . THE PIECE for Ryan Leslie was BEYOND WORDS OF DESCRIPTION. . .To Have a VISION and DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT . . . . if you have no idea WATCH IT OVER AND OVER ITS UNBELIEVABLE. . . . ..MUCH MUCH PROPS RESPECT TO SHAUN / PAT / THE COMPANY. . .
gj pointing that out. most of their pieces are picked for lyrics. the last 2 are also picked for that. "wanna be good to you" is wanting to be good to the audience. And the last one is just being angry and frustrated that no one can see their genius.
yeah, i was thinking about the bboys too...and i dont really know man...bboying actaullay is all about those flashy moves, but the thing about many bboys, that i've noticed, is that...they just pull of a whole lot of sick moves, without really hitting the beat at all...but of course, there are bboys out there who fuse their moves with the music....but i don't really have any good arguments at all when it comes to bboys, and i would actually like to hear some opinions from others
the Company is in a completely different league than the other teams - the concept was probably too complicated and sophisticated for the judges to even comprehend..
(PART 4a) for the part tina needed some help on... starting with subi's piece, he's dancing and trying to show the rest of the dancers what, again, "REAL" dancing is. pat and shaun are pointing out to the groups on the sides, "THAT'S, how it's done." but throughout the piece, the groups show that they think it's whack. when the lyrics go, "say no," the dancers are lookin like, "nah that's not cool!" at 2:05, they run towards subi's group and walk away shaking their heads showing disinterest.
Part 1 a lot of people is probably wondering how the company made it to the second place...well, the answer is not really that simple...i mean...look at all the other crews...nice moves, right on point...not to mention flashy! there were so many other dope crews that didn't make it to the to 3...and that's probably because they didn't have a solid story line. people nowadays tend to only see the moves the way they're being executed, and not actually the thought behind the move.
i see where your coming from... but bboying is not only about flashy moves. just like the company's message is to dance with emotions, to the beat etc. bboying has "become" about flashy moves just like hip hop choreo. i dont see many bboys just do some nice clean top rock, six step etc
what you're saying is true, but there's also a reason why i put ":P" right after i said that they don't need music. of course every dancer needs music...it's the music that makes you dance in the first place, and that's when you're expressing yourself. so what i said about dancing to no music, wasn't something i ment literally. my point is that, the company is not a crew that just puts together a lot of different moves that they think that other people think is "dope"...
I love all this interpretations of this piece and everything, and I sure don't disagree with any of it, but after reading all this some questions have come to me. If we were all to go with the general opinions shown here, should we all start hating on bboys now? I personally believe that the use of flashy moves is perfectly fine and innocent--so long as it doesn't take away the audience's appreciation of other aspects. I'd like to see input of others on this, (esp pat/shaun)
yeah i think u guys cracked it lol. what about the first minute of the set though?? the girl lying on the floor and shaun looking mad at the audience??
The thing about bboying is using it to mainly battle though, and when you're competing, pulling big moves definitely has its pluses. However, bboying is more about hitting beats and being creative. you get way more props for pulling a freeze on a hard beat than doing it outta the blue. bboys like katsu and born dont have many flash moves but make up for it by creativity. If you have time search all area crew vs top 9. katsu is the first to go out in blue, you will understand when you watch him.
@hopeneverdies5678 Ikr thats the first message they sent to the audience. They purposely made the last part of the choreo flashy to get out a point but nobody got it. maybe a few but there were too little. But I think the world has come to appreciate dance a little more now... well not really lol. ABDC... what? lol
agree 100% w/ that.. but sadly most artists (whether they write, make music, or paint a canvas, etc) are frustrated w/ the bullshit they have to put up w/ too.. i applaud shaun and the co for staying true to the art of dancing and not giving a shit ab whats in today.
I agree. But it's more like their style that isn't recognized and respected, not the Company itself because they've been pretty well known dance team ever since last year right?
Wow... Never knew that... Thanks for the info mike :) Congrats to Pat!! What piece did he block? And did the choreo for the routine with George and pat in hats?
does anyone have an opinion about the parts where people just lie on the stage, as if they passed out or died? like what do you think that is about? annddd the dance at 4:20,...what is the meaning of the separation between the pair and the group?
Well, it's not up to you to say who deserves what. If it were up to me I'd say that every single group deserved 1st place, but it isn't like that is it? So all we can do is just appreciate their talent and respect what they do instead of stating biased opinions that seem unreasonable and unfair.
thinking about it, it might be like u said.... how shaun used all the effects in the piece which isnt "real" dance... and then it shows the death of it.. he does some choreo to show what its meant to be like and then gets mad and "throws" his old self away....
the reason why i said dancing is becoming more and more like a videogame, is because of the fact that people are becoming more obsessed with flashy moves. like, when u play streetfighter...u don't want to do a simple right hand punh, u wanna do the flashy combos with all those backflips and stuff... ...now, what i just said might not make any sense to anyone...most of the time, i just say stuff without really explaining what i mean properly...but hopefully, someone gets me :P
the whole point of this set was trying to tell people that certain groups of an audience have no respect for good/decent choreography and respect for tricks and hype and shit.
...but they're like more expressive...it's like poetry in motion (yeah, i know that one soundes kinda cheesy :P)...they dance more with their heart, and less with their brain "which is something more and more people tend to do nowadays). but yeea.. what i'm saying is might be wrong, because i'm not a dance judge or someone big in the dance industry. what i said about dancing to no music wasn't something i ment literally, even though it might sound stupid no matter how you interpret it
I think this is for everyone a winner who understands dance, what's dancing all about. Because everyone who want's to dance or everyone who's dancing, all of them are doing 1 thing...and that is DANCE.
What I am tryna say is that everyone is dancing on his or her way, the way of their own interpretation of it. But we all have the same LOVE for it!

i agree..the company never use too flashy or flashy move at all...but their choreography's is still at a high level..and i love it.
i come back to this vid like every week to gauge peoples interpretations , its cool to see.
Incredible story telling... Pure genius.
and then the ending piece is where they finally just straight up dance with no extra stuff, it's just pure dance, and that's where shaun joins them.
this set is extra deep yo. shaun's mind is out in space man lol
now, i didn't understand that they were running around the stage while the others were dancing to begin with...but if you watch it over and over again, and read the comments, it all made sense...i mean...if they weren't "running" around the stage, then it would have been even more difficult to understand their message...in overall, what they did was just freaking GENIUS. I have no idea how u can create a concept so unique and so good. i mean, if i ran around like that, my team would have lost...
One word to describe The Company
ART.
ii still seing this a year after and i still pretty amazed .. one of the best sets in the world if not the best ... i see this piece like 6 time a month & always i feel inspired . & give them props ! ... this PIECE should be like written on the books of dance ! to the others generation could apreciatted !
feel the same way about it...
every move he makes... feelin he puts in it...
just amazing
part 2
the company might not have so many flashy moves, but in my opinion, they're one of the few crews out there that's still very expressive when they dance...they probably dont even need music when they dance, because their dancing pretty much tells a story for itself :P
and that's why we (or at least I) love the company
Beyond BRILLIANT... in so many ways...
agree completely. Shaun is not saying you shouldn't use those gimmicks but i think its more like he wants people to understand the importance of dance over gimmicks. The crowd was pretty quite during some of the choreo scenes. Then Shaun does that hand clap to see if the audience did see it for its creativity.
The dude leading at 3:02 is the sickest/smothest dancer iv seen! props to teh choreographers the sets were sick...
That zion I intro was so dope!totally captured the mood of the song
this may be kind of a shock to many if not all of whoevers reading this....but the real brainchild behind all of this is pat. he doesn't mind that you think its shaun...he thinks its cool actually...mostly funny tho. i guess its considered a compliment if you make something and credit is given as genius...even if its to the wrong person.
shaun does guide pat and he takes in every input that shaun gives...but pat did orchestrate EVERYTHING...even the blocking of shauns piece.
-mike
This is just one aspect of the whole concept, but I think they're trying to get people to appreciate them for the right reasons. have always been inspired by their work since the first day.
Well to continue on the interpretations, i think the fourth piece is more like a reminder for the audiences to revert back to the basics of what is dance and moreover what is art. There are multiple definitions to this and what i personally think, if i may say, is the interpretation of an individual's expression of herself/himself. The mirror reflections of what happens in the studio or choreography is a reflection of how the dancer feels in real life either it may be true or in message form..
to me, it just seems that that piece shows how choreography can/should be percieved and what can motivate its creation.
i sorta agree with you gangstaboy, everytime i watch their sets i kinda just sit their quiet but my attention is intently locked in.
they always come with a fresh style
they always rock it in the R&B pieces, that's like Shaun's specialty
(PART 4b)
then it's jeka's turn to show them what dancing is. she starts her piece out with a small group, and you can see that as the song goes along, more and more people are joining in and coming to a realization. eventually, they all finally get together to and do straight choreo at 3:33. pat and shaun sit to watch the result of their revelation.
finally, pat's piece is where all the dancers dance with meaningful choreography that tells a story. continue with tina's part 5/6.
-jason
holy shit ok i knew shaun was good but... my god .. its so awesome that the crowd to was able to appreciate what an awesome performance they put on too but damn man... when shaun started that last routine i could not take my eyes of him man, BEAST/GENIUS/GOD

yeah, i kinda feel you on that one...he has this natural unique swagger
i've been following subi for a little while..and i always noticed in the comments ppl compare him to shaun alot and try to give shaun credit for all of this work..im sure the piece in this performance shut all the skeptics up for good..seeing as it was a message to all of you

we love the company
freaking amazing piece... and i agree with Chrisomg... straight up true
seeing shaboobs' opinion, now that i watch it with that in mind, i agree with where he's going. as the dancers do all these things like ripples and other things like he said, the directors are acting like, "you don't need all that, stop and just dance."

INCREDIBLE!!!!, SHAUN & PAT = GOD!!!
Back to spain soonnnnn!!!!!
Gius.
i love the grow n sexy & the maroon 5 part :D
This is awesome. At first I thought it was a little chaotic but now that I saw the explanation it's very oragnized and great to watch! awesome!
thanks for digging deeper! "oh, look, i can do this move and this move, oh that move is not that cool" is probably how some people are thinking nowadays, if you know what i mean
i totally agree with you on placement. i actually thought common ground edged out choreo cookies this year.
my opinion:
1st - CG
2nd - CC
3rd - Company/Formality/Meccamee (can't choose! I'm somewhat biased toward the Company though, I'm a huge Evaristo fan)

good shit shaun.
ill second that, RESPECT!!
wow I just noticed something new. In Subi's piece when the songs goes: "ask them originals, 'cause they know' the 2 groups point at Pat and Shaun! Awesome metaphor.
We know for sure TaeYang fans and the KPop industry enjoy Shaun's dancing a lot :D
totally agree with u. i thought of the same thing with last years piece
i love shaun and pat's work!!! they're my fav choreographers out there. this is pure brilliance. and where do people see the drug message of this piece?? UHM NO... maybe y;all should think more into it. lol. anyway RESPECT to the company !!!!!!!

Now this is some food for thought. I'm wondering why the ratings aren't completely 5 stars.
respects to george, he killed every routine from start to finish.
@tinasuckss
supreme soul did the same thing at wod, which pissed people off.
mad love to ss and the co for staying true to themselves and not selling out.
funny how after ever song transition , shaun starts to clap a lil bit and the audience never claps with him lolol . pretty genius
@tinasuckss it looks like they're portraying not just the music video but how choreographers put things together (that people don't usualy notice)... both shaun and pat are kinda directing people where to go and what to do... I guess their trying to show how it is behind the scenes...

happens, the world isn't full of dancers that know art when they see it
fuckkkkkkkkk!!! that last piece, shaun got character written all over his face... literally. He animates the rest of the group into his lead with the mood he forces on the song.
i've watched all the crew and i can only say this..
all of them are CHAMPIONS..
but the judges has to choose one because of the formality of the contest.. i mean, someone has to win right?

gj pointing that out. most of their pieces are picked for lyrics. the last 2 are also picked for that. "wanna be good to you" is wanting to be good to the audience. And the last one is just being angry and frustrated that no one can see their genius.
kvgisme, i think electronicglowstix meant that the company was aiming more to get out the message than to place.
tinasuckss good job :) Respect!
yeah, i was thinking about the bboys too...and i dont really know man...bboying actaullay is all about those flashy moves, but the thing about many bboys, that i've noticed, is that...they just pull of a whole lot of sick moves, without really hitting the beat at all...but of course, there are bboys out there who fuse their moves with the music....but i don't really have any good arguments at all when it comes to bboys, and i would actually like to hear some opinions from others

I just noticed at 4:36 when shaun moves back to the music. pretty dope.
(PART 4a)
for the part tina needed some help on...
starting with subi's piece, he's dancing and trying to show the rest of the dancers what, again, "REAL" dancing is. pat and shaun are pointing out to the groups on the sides, "THAT'S, how it's done." but throughout the piece, the groups show that they think it's whack. when the lyrics go, "say no," the dancers are lookin like, "nah that's not cool!" at 2:05, they run towards subi's group and walk away shaking their heads showing disinterest.

i see where your coming from... but bboying is not only about flashy moves.
just like the company's message is to dance with emotions, to the beat etc.
bboying has "become" about flashy moves just like hip hop choreo.
i dont see many bboys just do some nice clean top rock, six step etc
look at all the little details in the grown n sexy piece. aha.
its like watching a movie.
what you're saying is true, but there's also a reason why i put ":P" right after i said that they don't need music.
of course every dancer needs music...it's the music that makes you dance in the first place, and that's when you're expressing yourself. so what i said about dancing to no music, wasn't something i ment literally.
my point is that, the company is not a crew that just puts together a lot of different moves that they think that other people think is "dope"...
is it pat cruz the one who made choreo to Rles song? whoever it was it is fucking GENIUS! i cannot stop watching this
I love all this interpretations of this piece and everything, and I sure don't disagree with any of it, but after reading all this some questions have come to me.
@tinasuckss yeah, very true.
yes she did xD
smooooth, 4:04.. where'd the hats come from? hahaa
It seems like dance is gaining a double standard. It's like people think dance is simply for entertainment, when, really, it can go deeper than that.
dam...pat cruz is a genius
The one with the short hair is a girl?? if so my bad, didn't mean to offend just spotting how smooth he/she is... mint style too!
genius
DAMMNN!!
is the story about regrets and how he would have lived life differently??
Wow...
Never knew that...
Thanks for the info mike :)
Congrats to Pat!!
What piece did he block?
And did the choreo for the routine with George and pat in hats?
does anyone have an opinion about the parts where people just lie on the stage, as if they passed out or died? like what do you think that is about?
annddd
the dance at 4:20,...what is the meaning of the separation between the pair and the group?
shaun is the best he kills everyone!!!
wow imagine how hard that was to direct
Well, it's not up to you to say who deserves what. If it were up to me I'd say that every single group deserved 1st place, but it isn't like that is it? So all we can do is just appreciate their talent and respect what they do instead of stating biased opinions that seem unreasonable and unfair.
can you join this?
like auditions & all?
BRYAN SUBIJANO!!! ^_^
wow last piece kilt it , not sayin the rest didnt but dam yall always be goin hardddd
thinking about it, it might be like u said.... how shaun used all the effects in the piece which isnt "real" dance... and then it shows the death of it.. he does some choreo to show what its meant to be like and then gets mad and "throws" his old self away....
the reason why i said dancing is becoming more and more like a videogame, is because of the fact that people are becoming more obsessed with flashy moves. like, when u play streetfighter...u don't want to do a simple right hand punh, u wanna do the flashy combos with all those backflips and stuff...
...now, what i just said might not make any sense to anyone...most of the time, i just say stuff without really explaining what i mean properly...but hopefully, someone gets me :P
could you please tell me the name of the songs?
umm its kinda hard to understand wht this pices about
watched it 5 time to understand what it means or i think so lol
Nevermind, reading through the comments I found out his last name is Cruz. I'll look him up myself now that I know his full name lol.
actually, it was pat's ideas xD but shaun definitely had a lot of impact on the outcome
the whole point of this set was trying to tell people that certain groups of an audience have no respect for good/decent choreography and respect for tricks and hype and shit.
...but they're like more expressive...it's like poetry in motion (yeah, i know that one soundes kinda cheesy :P)...they dance more with their heart, and less with their brain "which is something more and more people tend to do nowadays).
but yeea.. what i'm saying is might be wrong, because i'm not a dance judge or someone big in the dance industry.
what i said about dancing to no music wasn't something i ment literally, even though it might sound stupid no matter how you interpret it
