After decades of travelling by road opposite the railway line, allowing me to travel with the driver's view fulfills my dreams. I am grateful and thankful to you for uploading this wonderful film..
Must be a lot of maintenance involved - soft ground , heavy rain , erosion , earth tremors .. but spectacular scenery. I've been through there on the motorbike 40yrs ago and didn't know the railway existed .
It's beautiful through there needs a passenger train through there as well for visitors and locals alike between the coal trains and I reckon it would be full.
I thought this train took off from near the old packing plant, but then later I see the Buller River to your left, which indicated you were travelling towards Westport. Confusing to me???
It was Inangahua station, the main road is around 500m to the left of the track, and joins the rail while passing over the river, the settlement is accessed via a rail over bridge shortly after.
There are some long straight sections once the railway moves away from the river. With the actual speed locomotive engineer's view videos appearing on RUclips it makes me think I should put my Otiria to Ontonga (when the battery went flat) GoPro video up. Anthony
Yeah for sure, I used to speed it up but people want to be a part of the ride at realtime speed. And the line for the entire gorge is limited to 40km/h at the moment, normal line speed for that section is still only 50km/h
More than 70years ago we travelled from Inangahua to Westport on the Vulcan railcars RM51-53. Never appreciated the scenery then as I do from this display.

At 60 minutes was that the Cascade Creek bridge, where there used to be a siding for coal LA's to be shunted to the bins?

Your office has a wonderful view. Great sound too - was that just the gopro internal mic?
Yup straight from the GoPro
Great scenary , I was always told the South Island is more picturess than the North Island , ?
I've lived in both, would have to say both islands have beautiful places, the Southern Alps in the South Island are pretty spectacular though

Thanks a million. Great to see a piece of N.Z.West Coast. A bit different to the West Coast of Tassie. Cheers,Keith. 😊
Excellent! Where is the start point?
Inangahua warrant station, the buildings on the right was a mill serviced by the rail many years ago
Hi what is the track width gauge in NZ ???
Most countries of the world have a “standard gauge” of 1,435mm. New Zealand's track gauge is only 1,067mm, so is quite narrow in comparison.

I would love to do this run when the rivers are at there highest. 😃👍🏳🌈
Happens a lot, although it's not that fun, muddy water and pouring rain. Hey thanks for checking out the video😊
australians laid the track americans designed the track
Americans designed and built the locomotives which are based on U26 C's
