Just saw manto movie (Pakistani version) curiosity grew and decided to know more of him. What a peice of writting, what a story phenomenal. This guy was way ahead of his time. These stories will live for eternity.
Story was set it Amritsar during the partition. Isher Singh was a Sikh who killed and looted a Muslim family. He kidnapped a girl from the family and had sex with her, after having sex with her he realised she was dead! He basically had sex with a corpse. This really disturbed him and when he went to visit his lover Kulwant Kaur he had lost his libido because he was so disturbed by the fact he did it with a corpse. Kulwant Kaur started getting suspicious over Isher Singhs lack of interest in her and in a fit of anger she cut his throat open with the very sword he murdered the Muslim family with. While dying he narrates to Kulwant Kaur how he killed and raped a corpse and then dies. It's a story about how disturbing society is, tragic thing is stuff like this still happens today.

People calling this a Porno or erotica are ignorant being who have zero knowledge about literature. Manto was not only holding up a mirror to the dirt, hypocrisy and Puritanism in Indian and Pakistani society; he was showing a way out of it. His stories unsettle us because they take us to the darker corner of psyche, to desire repressed and to the ugliness that results. Our society is still struggle with brutalization of women, sexual abuse, sexual repression and discussing sex or sexuality openly. Manto is still holding up the mirror to ourselves.
As a fluent Urdu and English speaker, stories like this remind me that the emotional depths which can be achieved in illustrating human nature through Urdu are depths which the English language can’t even compare to. I love Urdu. There is so much more to be understood and felt behind every word.
They left so many courageous dialogues of this narration of Manto! Just like the intro of Kulwant Kaur, Manto also wrote about her breast and Ass. I am not joking, Manto really wrote those words in the story. And they also changed so many words. But atleast they have done a great job of making a sketchy drama on it. Great Job nonetheless.
