I’m probably like 20 pounds overweight. I used to be 35 pounds overweight. Just losing 15 pounds can make a great difference. I can’t imagine having to lose hundreds of pounds.
I'm in the same boat. I've cut out 95% of the fast food, eat more vegetables. I workout 3-4 times a week if not more. I'm getting there, but not at my goal yet. You being 25 lbs overweight isn't putting you at elevated risk for a heart attack. But diet and exercise will get you there.
Do intermittent fasting. Eat once a day all of your calories in one meal and fast for 24 hours between them. I can literally guarantee you'll lose the weight within a few weeks.
He is a national treasure. He tells it like it is, no sugar coating it. Anybody who subscribes to the ideology of “healthy at every size” or supports the fat acceptance movement should be mocked and jeered everywhere they go. You know most of those people would push a button that made them a healthy normal weight if they could. Same with all the fat influencers on toktik or whatever it is. Deep down, they are not happy. They would trade that weight with a healthy, normal weight individual any day of the week.
@julie Anne That wouldn’t help them because they aren’t learning a healthier lifestyle! Weight loss medication is a short term drug not a long term drug therefore as soon as they are pulled off the medication they have learned nothing and will just get right back to where they were! Also some of the patients are not eating just when hungry they eat even when not hungry so that wouldn’t really help! It’s like an Iv drug user it’s not only the actual drug, it’s the high they get even when just putting a needle in their arm so it’s not always the food alone, it’s the act of the motions! I agree 100% on depression medication
That would be the first thing that I would ask my dad to have his sister seen for obesity. But I feel disturbed to see how so much pain these obese patients go through. I am a huge fan of Dr. Now.
I used to do this. I've had people this large. Their tissue is FULL OF EDEMA that when you put your hand on them your hand leaves an actual HANDPRINT while you are rolling the person. It’s utterly amazing just how much the human body can take without dying. How can she even be living right now? Why can’t they admit her and force her in a regulated diet at this point?
If a morbidly obese woman is forced to do the work, she will NOT have a new attitude for life and will just regain the weight when she goes home! She is maintained by enablers! They buy the cheeseburgers, fries, milkshakes, et al. Bad habits must be changed in the mind first!
@@dootdoot94xo44 I'm telling you that if you MAKE someone try to lose weight before they psychologically are into the life style change, they will only gain it back. It starts in the mind to want it. It's like any other addict. It's a total lifetime change.
Because hospitals are for physically sick people. They are not for people with mental or emotional disorders. They don’t have room for people who just need to be on a diet, something they can do at home. In most cases, insurance will not pay for you to lie in a hospital bed just to lose weight.

I always have been so confused about how anybody could get this huge. I went through a period of time where I was consistently gaining 2-3 pounds a month. One day I weighed in at 208. I don't know why it was that particular number, but that was the point where I was just like "That's it. No more. I refuse to ever see any number higher than 208 on this scale" I like to say that 208 was my, "Oh hell naw!" weight. I refused to gain another ounce. So with these people it's like okay, I understand getting caught up with life and getting careless with calorie intake and lazy about exercise and I know weight can creep up on someone. But 600? At 300 you didn't say, "Whoa. 300?! Holy shit, I need to get ahold of this!" At 400? 500? Like damn, you can gain faster than most people realize but it had to take a long time to get up that high. At no point did you think it was getting out of hand? Like why do they wait until they are so fat that they can't stand up? Baffling.
@@MeganVictoriaKearns there are multiple reasons as to why someone can get like this, but id say the main ones are mindsets, mental health (including food addiction, ed / disordered eating) and genetics. the list goes on.

@@kiddomoroll I know they see therapists after surgery. Most bariatric surgery requires psychiatric exam before surgery to determine if the individual is able to be compliant with self care for the rest of their lives. I have seen that a lot of people do not understand what she have meant by "taking a break" She meant it by emotionally. Food addiction usually starts when there are overwhelming amount of negative emotions in a person's life that are constantly around. They are either very sad or very angry all the time or the mix of both. This is what most commonly trauma does. So to basically save themselves from breaking down mentally they try to distract themselves with something. She was in stress and in pain and the only way she can release that(she was not thought of anything else, not shown a good example or guided) is that she eats. This is what she meant by "taking a break". Taking a break mentally from the suffering. She is distracting herself. But the bad thing is that she is doing it in a way that not just not helps but slowly kills her.

"I think I'm holding up ok. I'm in pain but I'm managing it for now. I just needed to stop and eat, and take a break for a minute. But I know we still have a long way to go. So I just need to try to pace myself." This sounds like something someone running a gruelling ultra marathon would say, not someone sat in the back of a minivan on a road trip.
First thing I thought when I heard it. She's not moving so there's no "stopping" since her body is not in motion. Plus if you're in that much pain you wouldn't stop and eat, you'd eat while driving to lessen the amount of time you're on the road.
I was listening to this without looking at the video and I thought this was someone doing a strenuous triathlon or other physical task. When I looked down and saw a woman being transported like she's an animal, I was so surprised and I feel so bad for her. This is not the quality of life anyone deserves
For food addicted people their insulin levels skyrocket and then fall sharply as it would during a famine. Their body screams, "I'm starving!!!!". I have been there. She had the 3rd highest BMI ever on the show. There have been 115-ish people so far and out of all 115 she's #3. (BMI is a score calculated from a person's weight relative to their height. So if you have 2 people who are both exactly 600lbs, but 1 person is 6 feet tall while the other is 5 feet 6 inches tall, the 5'6" person would have a higher BMI. Even though both are 600lbs.) Shannon's BMI was like 139, I believe. Fun fact for anyone who cares: the honor of the highest BMI in "My 600 Pound Life" history goes to season 8's Joyce Del Viscovo. At the start of her episode, Joyce weighed in at an unbelievable 758lbs at a height of just 4 feet 11 inches. Her BMI was 160. Sean Milliken was #2. His highest weight was 1,003lbs.
@@applexd5590 A BMI of 20-25 is considered healthy. 26-30 is overweight. 31-40 is obese. 41+ is morbidly obese. Food addiction doesn't have its name for nothing. My weight problems never got this extreme, but I do know what it's like to be morbidly obese at a young age, get sick and tired of having problems doing very physical things and feeling blah as a result, lose 82 pounds on my own, go through a horrible weight gain after losing my mom and 3 other relatives in a four-month span, and now make the decision to get extra help losing that weight again as my body hasn't been responding to the same changes I made before. These problems often do come with emotional baggage that lead to a long string of bad health-altering choices and believe me when I tell you it's a lifelong fight to get better and stay better. My heart does go out to people who go through this and take up that fight no matter the cost.
I always think about this, how do these people eat as much as 3 people do per day? How many people could that save? Could they save themselves? Their community? Its all so much to think about

My feelings on this is what it is. It's only my opinion. But, I too am a woman of size. I was close to 300. Now I'm closer to 200. When I see these people that have grown so big. With all their excuses of why they got like this. I look at the enablers that are giving them this all this bad food and not encouraging them to eat better! If this is such a serious condition for these people, it should be against the law to encourage them. Because it's helping them kill themselves slowly. I look at the enablers and they're the ones that piss me off!
The patient is a bigger problem than the enabler. No one is forcing her to eat this food.. She says she pesters her husband until he gives in. This shows that he isn't on board with her poor eating habits but is caving to her manipulative tactics after much pressure. If SHE would commit to the plan, the others would most likely follow her lead. You can't help someone who's not ready to be helped and you cannot want it for them more than they want it for themselves.
@@jsmith5509 The enablers aren't the source of the problem, but they do play a role in that they make a bad situation even worse. These people are addicts. Like all addicts, if someone refuses to enable them to get their fix, they won't suddenly stop being an addict. They'll just find someone else to help them. So yes, the enablers play a part in the toxic situation, but the enabler choosing to stop enabling the addict won't change the addict. The 600+ pound person is who has to change.
I was about 12 kgs overweight in 2014. I was told i would never have a baby (pcos). The weight gain was due to me being on mood stabilisers and antidepressants which triggered over eating and over the years I developed BED which I struggled with even now. I was also a pre diabetic. What I want to say is, its how bad you want to get better. If I can do it , these people can too.

It's difficult to understand why someone would enable someone they claim to love to destroy their life. Loving someone requires discipline like your children. You have to be able to say no.
Serious question. How does someone this large go to the toilet in a trip like this. Must be hard enough in a house but on the road must be damn near impossible.
Very sad, the things that hold us back, mostly our own selves, our own psyche, we let it build up for years on end, building our own prisons. I have mental illness, that is my prison.
@@droo3010 She's the problem. The enabler makes things much worse, but the addict is the problem. If the enabler quits what they're doing, the addict won't magically stop being an addict. This, sadly, is what true addiction looks like. You know what you're doing is killing you, and that every time you succumb to your addiction you're sliding that little bit closer to your own death. You know what you need to do to stop, and you desperately want to beat your addiction and live a normal, healthy life again - for you AND your loved ones. But when those cravings kick in, they shut all of your logical brain down and you can't think past the moment you get that addictive substance into your body, to quieten down the demons screaming for it in your head. The logical brain only comes back online once that's happened - and then it's too late, the damage is done. And all you've got left is to hope and pray you can be stronger the next time - without much evidence to suggest you can.

They just expect to go and get a date and it's like no, this us a process and you are not fit. They recognize the warning signs they just want others to fix the issue so they can get what they want. That's why they get so upset at first check up because they thought dr. Now would just take any old progress and see that it's "not working" and opt for surgery instead. I feel bad up until a point. Did she say, "take a break and pace myself"? She's just laying there. She's not driving. She didn't even try to readjust how she was laying, didn't bother to sit up or anything. This gave me goosebumps. I am shocked
Because when you are super obese your skin is fragile and you need soft surfaces with special cushioning. Skin shear is extremely painful. Also you can develop blood clots from immobility. The weight of your own body is extremely painful too. When I am thin usually nothing hurts. When I am 300 pounds + everything hurts even sitting/standing.

What exactly is she taking a break from? What is she pacing herself for? All she’s doing is riding and annoying her husband and father. She claims she can’t do very much but when they pull into a fast food parking lot she sure does perk up enough to order a few combos! Why can’t she order one oversized combo and call it a day? There’s no way I would look at my body transforming like this and continue to eat the way she does. If she skipped just one of her nine meals per day it would at least be a starting point and she would start losing weight.
It’s really sad to see someone throw their life away . It took like 7 people to help her and they were struggling to get pads on her.. it’s just so sad
I feel angry with close family members of these extremely overweight people who give in so easily and supply them with any food they ask for! Always fried, fattening stuff….I say close family members, but I did see one person ordering huge takeaway orders that were delivered to their beds! It’s either comfort eating, or something in their brains telling they HAVE TO eat like this….it’s sad because at early stages when still mobile they could have had the motivation to walk more….now they are too large to even safely have surgery to remove some body mass or gastric band etc, as I’m sure the anaesthetist would refuse to give aesthetic in case they died during surgery . It will be extremely costly, but the option left is to keep them in medical care on the correct diet, and where they cannot access the fat Foods they always want…families will not be allowed to smuggle food in. It must be very frustrating for the medical people, who can get these patients to lose weight in their care, but know as soon as they leave they will head for McDonald’s etc. such a dilemma. But obviously this ladies heart won’t last the strain much longer…very sad.
Food addiction is a terrible thing. The fact that someone can eat themselves to over 700lbs and not be able to stop or want to change their lifestyle because it would mean denying themselves the thing they rely on for everything... it must be so hard to successfully come back from that. God bless Dr Now, he should be enjoying his retirement in a blinged out mansion but he's going to be tending to these people til he croaks.
I'm seeing a dangerous number of comments mentioning "food addiction" lately. There's no such thing. These people use eating as a habit to try to feel better, but there is no actual addiction here. If food was an addictive substance, all humans would be badly addicted because it is a necessity we eat daily to survive. Which would instantly form addiction. This person just has a really bad habit of eating a lot, and she eats when she feels bad, but she is not suffering from an "addiction" and she won't have cold sweats, shakes, and withdrawals if she eats less food, nor will she go through anything a substance abusive person would go through. She uses food as a crutch and an excuse for her depression.

I couldn't imagine getting to this point! I have a line with my weight that I won't let myself go over.

Baffling.

I’m 6 feet two and down to 185 pounds after being 275 pounds, and there are still times I feel like I’m gross and not meeting my fitness goals got my heart set on 160 I’m going to reach it. Watching videos like this keeps me motivated to keep trying
160lb is pretty under-weight for your height. 185 sounds just fine to me, 175lb if you want to look really good and fit.
I'm proud of you!
Isn’t 160 underweight for someone your height? You sound fine as you are.
I think so, when I made it to 183 I decided to stop and go to strength training now. I got a lot of insecurities about how I think I look, and me not being attractive. Going to the gym and constantly doing strength training helps push those insecurities away. now the goal is to get lean and get a six pack. Got my heart to reach that in the next two years.

It’s so aggravating to see so many people not do, or even try to do, that Dr. Now tells them. Then when they don’t lose weight, they insist they don’t know why they haven’t. 😑
I could never imagine weighing over 700 lbs. I weighed almost 180 when I delivered my son. I was so uncomfortable at that point. She's crying because her body hurts but, she continues to eat junk food.🤷🏻♀️
Same! I was always 130-135 before my daughter. I gained 48 lbs pregnant, just eating everything I wanted. My doctor even made a joke that my baby doesn’t want to come out because I keep feeding her 😂 but I was soooo uncomfortable. I can’t imagine being even 200 lbs. I know when I’m getting heavy because it hurts my feet.

When drug users continue to use them while they piss blood and they know.
It is not a what they chose. They are suffering from a serious problem that chased them into addictions. They are trying to distract themselves from it while running towards another way of death.

People talk about nonscale victories in weight loss, mine was being able to wipe without a special butt wipe extender. 👏
Behind every addict is an enabler unfortunately. They wouldn't exist without them.
@@TheOpinionator450 Yes they would. Like someone said in a previous post, the addict will find another way. It's the addict that needs to change.

I was about 12 kgs overweight in 2014. I was told i would never have a baby (pcos). The weight gain was due to me being on mood stabilisers and antidepressants which triggered over eating and over the years I developed BED which I struggled with even now. I was also a pre diabetic. I went keto , lifting weights. 7 years later, I have a 3 year old toddler, my blood sugar is normal and I have managed to keep most of the weight off ( i have the pregnancy fat which I am in the process of losing) but for the most part, I am doing well though I have binges now and then when I have depressive episodes. What I want to say is, its how bad you want to get better. If I can do it , these people can too.
If you can do it?
You were 12 kg overweight, these people are 200 kg overweight!
@Olivia Martini I meant they can with the help of surgery. People their size have done it in the past. So they can too

Their self narration is hilarious.
And sad. They say they want to change, but don't know how to start nor how to do it. They seem to be stuck, and their enablers keep them stuck.

It's pretty easy to slowly gain 25-30lbs. I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that these patients don't recognize the warning signs of becoming completely immobile. I actually think this type of thing is happening more and more often because you can live your entire life inside your home. Anything you want is delivered to your door
Everything but the will to live. My biggest problem when it comes to the patients is, in the beginning they always says Dr. Now is gonna give them surgery and that's how they're gonna lose weight. The trauma in their childhood years is never their fault, and I mean that, but what they do as conscious adults is just that, conscious. For 15 years they say they can't take it and they don't want their children to get the bad habits but it's far too late. This show reminds me that I'm the only person that can make my life more positive and everyone else is just support and a resource at times.
Its actually pretty easy to put on 1 lb a month and if you dont stop, after 10 years, thats 120 lb.
I was 186 at 4'11 which is HEAVY. I noticed that turning to wipe my butt was uncomfortable and that broke my heart. Then my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic and after 20 years of wanting to loose weight it finally clicked. I dont know how or what but it finally stuck and I lost 70lbs. I work my butt off everyday to keep that weight from coming back. It isnt easy at all but it is possible.

I noticed those weird facial expressions too. How sad it is to think those people with her didn’t buy her a salad, but more junk food to cause her additional suffering on the way. Her driver will be in that hospital himself in the coming years.
The boyfriend needs more physiological help than her, this woman is bed bound so he’s feeding her over 15k calories a day at least. Insane.
I'm not being mean, I'm honestly curious. How is laying on a mattress in the back of a vehicle for 8 hours different from laying in your bed at home for 8 hours?
Only difference is the bumps and movements of the car moving
I am guessing blood
Pressure issues ?
Because of the actual ride. Her weight is pressing down on her bones and organs, and with bumps the weight shifts from one place to another and it starts to hurt. At least that's what I think it is.

Why do they say they have pushed themselves to the limit when all they do is lay down in a bloody car!!

It will be extremely costly, but the option left is to keep them in medical care on the correct diet, and where they cannot access the fat
Foods they always want…families will not be allowed to smuggle food in.
It must be very frustrating for the medical people, who can get these patients to lose weight in their care, but know as soon as they leave they will head for McDonald’s etc. such a dilemma. But obviously this ladies heart won’t last the strain much longer…very sad.
