Those were athletes and boxers back then. Not a bunch of steroid pumping loudmouths which came later. Not only was it the "sweet science", but also artwork to watch.
It's True...Al McCoy had no business being in the ring with Louis. Far outclassed. This is ALSO testament to the Brown Bomber's punching power. That left jab is said to have pushed opponents teeth through their mouth guards...! HOO-YAH & God Bless the Great Joe Louis...!!!
Al McCoy was an excellent boxer. His feints were good--Louis constantly hesitated because of them. McCoy's footwork was excellent. But he had no offense to endanger Louis.

That was the real McCoy. If not for the badly barbecued ribs and severe eye damage, he would have gone on to KO Louis and cement his legacy as one of the all time greats.
@@Jay-nb1ss - I had Irish Al ahead on points when the ref unfairly stopped the fight. McCoy had Joe on the ropes in every round, only in reverse rope a dope style. Ali is often mis-credited for inventing that trapping, counterpunching tactic. It was Al, not Ali.
@@MyVeryHappyDay I don't know how you had this guy ahead on points? The ref didn't stop the fight his corner did! Ali in his prime would not have needed the Rope A Dope; Ali was so fast you couldn't have laid a glove on him! I'm wondering why McCoy never got a second shot? They let Henry Cooper fight go on and you seed what happen to him when you let the fight continue?
Good movement from Mccoy. Those bodyshots in the first round were too vicious. A shame about the stoppage but no reason to send a half blind man after Louis.
exum was wlads 2nd match a no name way more advanced than joes era, have anybody like that in joes time you know with angles?timing?fluid?tech in full rounds?,answer is no yet that man being that advanced was destroyed, i dont need to watch anybody louis fought seen it in all louis matches/max/primo they all had the same flaws the whole era did, looks very novice like compared to the average 70s fighter
try naming a hw louis fought who would make pro in 70s,oh thats right you cant, bob a man who moved like everybody else of the era very novice like mutiple mistakes....

McCoy was giving away too much weight to the dynamite punching Joe Louis
Al who? Another no name fighter, like Arturo Godoy, whom Louis also fought in 1940.
McCoy must have peed blood for a month after the fight.
Ninguno de estos boxeadores le hubiesen ganado a Ali . Por muy buenos que estos fueron.

Al McCoy an excellent boxer?
Are we looking at the same boxer
I like your assessment of this fight
No mandatory eight count I see.
Real men back then. No overweight lummoxes with beer tits.
Indeed, EveretttBurger... boxing regulations have changed through the years.
This is still old school.
Al can box...just a little
Louis seems to be a little perplexed
Imagine Ali

Al had no jab Thats why he couldn't keep Louis off of him.
Joe pensoil migliore !
Yeah , Joe made pensoil outta McCoy’s brains, right?
McCoys seconds don't even get in the ring with him...lol...bum....
The great Tony Galento would have moidered da bum

That's hilarious. Good sarcasm.
There's a lot of ifs in buts in there! You got to be kidding right? This guy was over matched! He's a member of the Bum of the Month Club! Lol
