I dropped out (Kicked out) of NYU and within 4 weeks I accomplished my dream of giving a TEDx TALK on Self Love and Black Mental Health. This story is a hard one to tell but I wanted to share this experience with you all.

ABOUT ME:
Denise “Liv” Francis is the Founder and CEO of The Self Love Organization INC. The Self Love Organization is the online Self-Love, Therapy and Wellness club for Black Women to help end the cycle of the transgenerational trauma by healing Black Women and the communities they lead.
She started The Self Love Organization INC in 2017 to bridge the gap between Self Love & Mental Health for Women of Color.
If all Black Women started a Self Love Journey we could heal generations. There is power in healing and strength in Self Love that can echo for generations to come. Denise is on a mission to Heal Black women and end transgenerational trauma. The Strong Black Woman trope has allowed a culture of self-silencing behaviors to be passed down generations. This silencing behavior has allowed Black Women to normalize their trauma. With Self Love we can end this cycle by healing black women, we could rewrite our culture from internalizing trauma to healing it. Transforming the Strong Black Women into who she was always meant to be, the Healed Black Women.
Denise is a Self Love Coach, Researcher, TEDx Speaker and Educator. Denise’s work is focused on healing Black Women by bridging the gap between Self Love and Mental Health with what lies in between the two constructs, Self Therapy. She believes Self Love is a skill; if mastered it could be the missing preventative measure to fight common mental health issues in women of color and help heal trans-generational trauma within the Black Community.

This story resonates so much. Your message and impact is honestly greater than what NYU could’ve offered you. I had plans to attend NYU’s Silver School for social work just this fall. It was a dream school for me and I received a scholarship as well. But even then it was ridiculously expensive. I ended up rescinding my admission and have been looking for jobs ever since. I’ve always been passionate about mental health and wellness and I know that whether or not I’m in school or working I’ll be dedicated to this work. During the pandemic I created my own platform black dermatillomaniac, to hold space for black people with anxiety and body focused repetitive behaviors. Through this blog I was able to be published in psychology today. Even though at moments I still feel lost, I’m going to continue blogging and I’m trying to get into mental health public speaking as well. I love that you’re a self starter and have created a lane that is entirely your own. It’s truly aspirational and gives me hope that I’m on the right path as well.
This video came in at the right time. I can relate but what I do know the creator will always move you when it time.That redirection is our protection he says “bigger, better” beyond what we know we deserve and need.

3 minutes in and OMG! I feel so seeeen😭. I just finished my masters in law but it was more philosophy and had a wholistic approach to how we should be living and how our history affected us. But there isn't really a job for such and now I feel stuck because I know I don't wanna practice and academia doesn't seem like an option at the moment. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!

Girl I receive it! I am so on this same journey. Quit my job with a strong pull to do so to leave myself position for greater opportunities. As a first generation kid, I was so scared to do so, but just had a peace about the whole thing. So when you said you had your TED talk already drafted I had goosebumps!! It something that I have been fantasizing about for the past two years. But, SIS when I tell you that is confirmation that I need to put this dream speech in a Goggle Doc and prepare myself for what I desire. Not that I needed confirmation but it just struck something in my spirit and I thank you for sharing your path to your Ted Talk, which was beautifully presented to the world that black women's well being matter. I loved every second of it. Yasss! I am hopeful that someday soon I can go up on that stage an advocate for the well-being of black girls in the mental health space. Just dropping that for my manifestation purposes lol But, really thank you for sharing!

I felt this whole video inside. Takes me back to my grad school masters program on NYC when they were not trying to let me graduate or walk across the stage for something that didn’t make sense. I graduated
Years ago I wanted to do a TED Talk, but was afraid. I even recorded and put ideas on my laptop of a TED Talk. I even reached out to those who did and stopped. This video made me realize I need to go back to drafting my TED Talk I started years ago. I’m all for us Black women winning! 🙏🏾😊❤️
