Cutting My Coconuts

- This is my first time cutting these, and I must say that I'm rather pleased with the results, but what do you think of them?

You forgot the most important part….. UV! Those usually uv insane under shortwave. And that “Dud” will probably have a lot of green and red Uv in it 👍🏻 maybe a community post with results?

This did come out really nice! I like the first one! But that pure chalcedony one is gorgeous too! They are all really nice and 1 of 4 isn't bad. You usually average way worse than that on thundereggs! And the good ones are really good! Thanks for sharing Jared! ❤

I have an agatized coconut from Richardsons Rock Ranch but I havent had the time to cut it yet

The coconuts can ve very pretty but they can also be a little bit of a pain to polish
I have had some issues with them, mostly the quartz wanting to break out.

Thundereggs are awe-inspiring. I can usually find something to like about a rock. That dud is a natural cannonball 😂.

It's kinda funny but I just cut one of those myself and then turned on the RUclips and viola, you're cutting them as well. There are some interesting variety that can be found but most I've cut are agate around the outside with quartz into the middle. They are very pretty IMO and the only thing I've ever cut that presents excellent parallax in the white fortification banding. Thanks for sharing sir!

I generally find the Mexican nodules to be fun. I buy quite a few in quartzite when I go. Thanks for the host rock clarification. I'd tried to look it up and hadn't found much.

The 2nd one looks like a tiny planet lol. What is the dud ratio?
It seems like only 5 or 10% are duds, which is really good.
Love those. I have some good ones too. That last one is awesome! Probably goes without saying but I’m gonna say anyway, check them out with uv, especially the “dud”. They can be amazing in the uv. The chalcedony ones are usually just green but the ones like you called a dud can have some amazing colors from red to purple to blue. I love my “duds”.

You stole my thunder! Just kidding. I just recorded a video of another bucket of my Mexican Coconuts mixed in with a few Dugways. Now I'll have to wait until yours has been up for a while, then I'll publish mine. Maybe in a few weeks. 3 out of 4 is pretty good odds. I'd take that any day, no matter the rocks. I love Coconuts, especially when they are crystal lined. Years ago, Richardson's had a bin of "guaranteed" hollow Coconuts. They were 3 times the cost of the pile outside, but they were all hollow. The miner/vendor suspended them in a slurry of some kind and the hollow ones would float. That's how they knew they were hollow. Unfortunately, once the bin was empty, they never bought any more. Now we all get to gamble on what's in the pile. Sigh. Every once in a while you can still find one with a crystal pocket, but those are few and far between. Have fun polishing them. That one with the soft spots is going to be a pain. Been there, done that.

Also, thank you for the tip about Richardson's having some hollow ones, I will keep my eyes open for them in the future.
