Many years ago living down Mexico Way, a lady friend asked me to accompany her as she had to take her kids to the hospital for various reasons. In the waiting room, a TV set was hooked up to a VHS system and it would play Benny Hill tapes throughout. They weren't even dubbed in Spanish. Yet the patients were able to sit and watch and laugh at all the skits and shows. Even other children understood and laughed along as well. Lady friend said that the doctors and nurses in Mexican hospitals know that Laughter is the Best Medicine. And they played comedies in the waiting rooms to put people in a good mood, and regardless of what was ailing them, they were receptive to their treatments and healed up faster. I joined her a few times at the hospital for various reasons. And I always thought why didn't waiting rooms in the States do something like that?! Instead, I've seen where they just play the local channels and show the regular bullshit that they can get at home. I know from my travels that the Mexicans and Benny Hill had it right all along! Everybody in Latin America loved to watch the Benny Hill Show dubbed into Spanish and men did really enjoyed watching those beautiful British females on the show. Benny Hill forever! Gracias por tu show, Benny. Thanks for your show, Benny.
I grew up in Crystal, Minnesota and My mom started watching more PBS television, which included Benny Hill. I absolutely fell in love with the show...that was in the late 70's and early 80's. We sat together watching and laughing. Those are some of the fondest memories of my Sweet departed mother. We bonded over a lot of TV shows but I loved Benny Hill over all of them
In England and the United States! Benny Hill’s slapping the old man on the top of the head made me do it to every cat I ever caught. No cats were hurt in my comedic endeavors.
Wrong headline... That stupid media don't you just hate it... It always starts fights in the schoolyard... It should be the most content and funny man in Great Britain.... How the BBC after he saved it stabbed him in the back.
When Benny was canceled it marked the death of English Music Hall Comedy. Chaplin came from English music hall as well and the connection was very deep.
Once he was fired, Benny had nothing else to live for. A wonderful person who would stop and talk to anyone he met in the street. Yes he was wealthy, but that meant nothing to him. His dream had been broken, but his heart was broken more. It wasn't his life that was sad, but his ending! May you rest in peace dear Benny, and thank you!
I was a child of the 80's and e always amused me. I think he should have been made have his heart surgery and he encouraged to save is life. He was so. worth saving
Stayed up many a night late as kids just to watch Benny hill. I’ll never forget I had my next door neighbor and best friend , Brent come over for a sleep over just so we could watch Benny Hill when he came on really late. I was startled awake by the silly kazoo music and immediately shook my buddy Brent awake to watch Benny Hill but he was so sound asleep he could barely open his eyes for a second. I shook him again and he tried to force his eyes open but they rolled back in his head and he hit the pillow on the living room floor and was out again. So I watched the show myself then turned off the tv and went to sleep. I woke up to a weird plastic sound and found my buddy Brent sleep walking and was pissing in a hallway closet on a dress covered in plastic. I grabbed him and shook him but his eyes were closed and he was still pissing away. At this time my Mom woke up and started yelling WTH is gojng on….Kt was obvious Brent was still sleep pissing so we ushered him to the toilet. But he was pretty much done at that point so we laid him back down and cleaned up the mess. The whole time we were ushering Brent to the bathroom he kept saying “When’s Benny …when’s Benny”…..lol.
He was the UK's king of slap stick comedy.in what was what the Brit's call "The Tellie" right along with Marty Python's Flying Circus . ... I saw reruns of him as a kid in the late '70's and his antics was hilarious and legendary. It was a tragedy and a sad story of a man that was first told he wasn't funny to putting his heart into what he loved the most ... To make people laugh 😂 RIP Benny Hill.
He proposed to two women in his life and both rejected him. Must of hurt bad enough even once but twice damn. Even with all the money and fame he never found love. Love in his work but not in a soulmate. The world can be so cold and cruel. We love you Benny.
Not at all what one would have thought the Benny Hill real life to have actually been so, understated. One thing though, 50,000,000 viewers in the U.K. At that time that would have been their entire population.
We here in the states absolutely loved Benny, and its so nice to hear he was a simple man. I'm the same way. I don't want a huge house with tons of stuff, a room with my media gear and my bed and another room to play music in, I'm good to go.
I'm from New Orleans. My stepdad was a New Orleanian of Sicilian origin, with a really deadpan sense of humor. One night when I was 13 or so (1982) he and I were watching Benny Hill on TV, and he mentioned to me really casually: "You realize that Benny Hill's originally American, right?" Of course I doubted it, but he said it so calmly and straightforwardly. He went on to tell me that Benny Hill was originally from New Orleans and his real name was Val Marsiglia, and that he got famous in the UK during and after the war, originally as part of the USO. He had me going for a good 20-30 minutes, till finally he couldn't take it and burst out laughing.
He had a successful BBC show for 22 years. That's a very good run. He was in his mid-60s. He really had nothing to complain about when his contract was not renewed. Ridiculous to make out this was a tragedy.

All the critics out, harshing you over the pronunciation of a word. How petty and out of focus. This was a wonderful documentary on an extraordinarily beautiful soul. Thank you for your very insightful production. I learned a lot.
Thank you Mark. One thing I learned a long time ago is not to let that kind of thing bother you. If they are correct in a critique well then you learn for next time. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the kind words.
He got fired and practically killed by Thames Television because they found him not enough politically correct, no matter he was their only Goose with the golden eggs and they killed it. And an year later they filed for bankruptcy. Edited - 😁
Not a sad life. He lived the way he wanted to. Watched all over the world and could care less about stardom. What is sad is that we can not see the shows anymore. Just little bits here. Asked anyone that worked with him and the will tell you that he was a gentleman always when dealing with people. As a teenager watched the show with my parents. We all laughed. Today they will take your child away and put you in jail. RIP. The people around the world still love you.
Sadly Teddington Studios have been demolished now, making way for new apartments. Teddington Studios had been there for decades. Thames Television took over the complex in 1968 when they were created as an ITV company, and remained there until Thames Television ended on December 31st 1992. In 1993 Teddington continued as an independent studio complex.
Benny had a fantastic life, as reporters stood in the cold and rain outside his flat he was more often than not in the south of France at a casino, his lack of possessions was down to his dedication to work " i rent things because if i owned them it would be my responsibility to have them repaired if they went wrong, renting means i pick up the phone and somebody else fixes them so i can concentrate on my work" and we all should be thankful he did, hours of laughter may have been lost had he bought a washing machine or fridge
Benny hill, one of if not the funniest guys in the 70s/ 80s. This man still makes me laugh to this day. He just wanted the world to laugh and laugh we did. So thank you Benny hill for showing us how to laugh, let's not be so serious and let's start laughing again.
Hey funny is funny and some times all the more BECAUSE it’s not politically correct , that’s exactly what makes it funny , we can be so serious , we need our funny bones tickled from time to time and he sure as hell tickled mine 😂 thank you Benny boy
The greatest comedian in the history of your planet. Most surprised, even allowing for the PC brigade, that UK TV is not showing his episodes during Covid 19. They would better the viewing figures of all other channels and introduce him to our younger generations who hate the PC brigade as much as old sods like me. Not all his work was smutty. He had some brilliant sketches that had no sexual innuendo whatsoever, and some that could touch your heart, whilst still making you laugh. He was a genius and shall never be matched, never mind bettered. Quite simply, the greatest.
This made me choke up. This man made millions laugh and forget about their troubles for a bit and he dies alone in his flat...The irony in the end. Thank you cancel culture! FU
I cannot stand Hollyweird, the tabloids, the "fashions", critics, the back biting that goes with it. Those people are rotten and evil. Benny was awesome!
@@PenDragonsPig But Thames TV is in London, which is the biggest city in Europe, and the Thames is the major river running through it. Pronouncing that Thames phonetically and not like Tems is a major blunder. It would be like pronouncing the Seine in Paris as Sine, when it should be like Sane. The narrator must be from Lost Angels.
@@alunpalmer7337 I know what Thames TV was, I know where London is, I know where the River Thames is, I know where the Thames River is, I know where Paris is, I know where the Seine flows, I know how to pronounce them all, I even know where Los Angeles is and how to spell or pronounce that. Benny Hill was not funny- his work was more stupid than risqué.
IrishEyes, very good to point that out, I was surprised with that 'Thames' issue also because the host was otherwise really good and engaging - good speaking voice and cadence and the docu itself had new info I had not heard before.
feminists hated benny, thats why they applied typical tactics, "anyone who is not married is gay", they shame men when they dont behave as wage slaves. and his show cancelled was pressure from feminist groups, those low life execs bent in to feminist pressure. benny just lived his life the way he wanted to and it is sad that other people ruined his life, there was no reason to cancel his show. benny just did not want a gold digger wife to divorce him after long marriage and rob him of every penny in divorce, rest in peace benny
Benny's show was the main source of comedy when I was a kid growing up in Texas. It's sad the way his life ended, but I guess many of us go out in a similar fashion. However, his memory and legacy live on in the hearts of millions of fans.
My favorite late night show as a teenager here in the US. And not just for the gratuitous boob shots. (But some. Lol) but his comedy has been engrained in me ever since and to this day I still steal some of his jokes and prank others as he did. As an accomplished sax player, I can even play Yackety Sax and saw Boots Randolph in concert. All because of The Benny Hill Show. RIP man.
The Benny Hill Show aired prime time 8pm on the ITV channel here in Britain with around 15 to 17 million watching each week. The peak of his show was from 1971 to 1981.
My dad had kids later in life, so needless to say by the time I was a teenager there was quite the generation gap between us. There was one main thing that would always bonded us was the two of us staying up late into the night, just the two of us watching the Benny Hill Show. 😂😂 We would even have private jokes between us pertaining to the show. Benny was not only making people laugh, he put people together in ways he never knew. Both my dad and Benny are gone now and I miss them both. 😊 R.I.P. Thanks dad for being you Thanks Benny for the laughs.
Comedy probably the most rewarding profession out there. As long as you are on top. When you peak your carrier it's downhill from there. On the way up you constantly try to out do yourself untill you peak out. Finding out you reached your limit and boom. Most comedians private lives are sad tradegies worthy of many tears in the end. Robin Williams, John Belushi, Andy Kaufman, Chris Farley and Benny Hill. All died too early and with a really tragic story behind their deaths.
Hands up if you paused the video when he pronounced Thames as "tames" instead of "tems" and looked to see if anyone had written about it in the comments section.
I was born in the fithtys and remember Benny hill there was some silent movies I watch my grandmother watch every night same time I couldn't go out much so. For entertainment and even watching he haw, I could name so many on the weekend watching tv until the last show sign off I remember watch Benny late night. Everything thing was live entertainment. Job well done
My folks wouldn't let me watch the show as a kid so it was so awesome when they'd go out and my older sister would babysit. We'd watch Benny Hill and Three's Company and any other contraband shows that were on.
Benny Hill was a class act regular guy until a typical woman riun his show and his life I'm still going to enjoy his show rest in peace benny Hill you are a class act
There is nothing sad here. We should all be happy, have a highly successful show that is beloved by millions, and makes people laugh, and die in front of the TV 3 yrs after they cancel the show. Sounds perfect. I laugh just thinking of Benny - that is what he wanted most I think.
and to all those, like the so called new wave comedians, who unnecessarily criticized this lovely genius of a man - I stick two fingers up to all of them, and in particular to foul mouthed ben elton........
It was at the right time. They probably would not show it now due to stupid people complaing about it. Comedy has gone downhill now as they have to watch what they say. No one would take offence in those days unlike now.
I always loved watching the Benny Hill Show, I was pretty young but oh well still loved watching. I think he was a gem for his time. Don't no if he was around now and his skits were now if they wud have done as well but I no they wud be better than a lot that's on the tv now
This wasn't a sad life. This was a man who set out achieve, and who did so despite the period and the critics. He died, but everybody does. it's not sad. it's inevitable.
I never knew that he was never married or even gay or even had a girlfriend or children, I always thought that he had a wife and children. Such a good comedian. I don't think that Harry Hill could say that he was related to him cause nobody wouldn't believe him.

Benny was hounded by the pc brigade and alternative comedians he was a shy and private man who I would often see shopping in Southampton where people left him alone I think he enjoyed his life and was a great lover of France and the french lifestyle he was also one of the funniest comedians England has ever seen and yet there is no statue or proper memorial to him in Southampton which is a disgrace Rip Benny one of our own
The Media is grusome!!! We who loved him sooo much, never noticed his weight or any other things. Just his mild humor. That Lady who called him a sexualist, got her 15 minutes of fame. That was wat she wanted. Miss him very much, and do not understand why his tv-shows can be shown for a new generation that has more humor, and not doble-moral!!

Everybody in Latin America loved to watch the Benny Hill Show dubbed into Spanish and men did really enjoyed watching those beautiful British females on the show. Benny Hill forever! Gracias por tu show, Benny. Thanks for your show, Benny.
I just loved the Benny Hill show as a kid growing up. Lol
I grew up in Crystal, Minnesota and My mom started watching more PBS television, which included Benny Hill. I absolutely fell in love with the show...that was in the late 70's and early 80's. We sat together watching and laughing. Those are some of the fondest memories of my Sweet departed mother. We bonded over a lot of TV shows but I loved Benny Hill over all of them
A true National Treasure, sadly missed :(
There will never be another like him.
In England and the United States! Benny Hill’s slapping the old man on the top of the head made me do it to every cat I ever caught. No cats were hurt in my comedic endeavors.
@@robert.m4676 I used to slap the top of my mom's head like that! I called it "giving her the 'Benny Hill'" !
indeed his 60's act was both risque and enjoyable. The pace was quick, and the laughter continuous.
I was born in 59, I grew up watching him. Memories I will always cherish.
I laughed so many times with tears watching this man's sketches. Then, learning of his passing, I just cried!
Benny Hill died of a broken heart.
StrainghtShooter so did Anthony Bourdain :(
I think so.
It was actually 25 million.
We need a movie about his life
That would be an awesome idea. Wonder who could play the part though.
YES A BIOPIC
Tales of Fame and Fate Jack Black
Chris Farley would have been great!
True
his show was still selling in 104 countrys
Love the videos so far good production quality
Thank you. I am glad you are enjoying them.
R.I.P. Benny.. Thanks much for each laugh you've given me n, countless other's...
Benny Hill was a BOB ROSS Favotite ... Bob was never a Big! T.V.. fan , although Bob really liked Benny Hill and watched him every time Benny Hills show was on, I liked him as well.. a great loss.. I pray Bennie Hill is still making Bob Ross laugh in Heaven... I Miss My First and only Love That will alway's remain in my Heart Forever.. your first wife.. Vicky Ross
Beautifully put. Thank you Vicki.
I just realized you knew Bob ,I'm from the smoky mtns in NC, I'm a huge fan of Bob Ross,my 10 year old daughter loves Bob ,she watches him paint everything she can ,in closing I will say he struck me as such a nice man ,I miss bob and didn't really know him,we will continue to watch his show when we can because it gives us such a peaceful feeling .
@@tracyhardin4542 Yes Vicky was Bobs first wife and mother of Steve Ross. I can tell you from personal experience after coming to know Vicky from my Bob Ross video that she is also one of the nicest people you want to meet.
What a wonderful man. RIP.
Just FYI, Benny's first series was in 1955 and he had his own short lived radio show in 1954. Just wanted to say, otherwise very good.
he had a radio show that ran between 1964-1966
Sadly Teddington Studios have been demolished now, making way for new apartments. Teddington Studios had been there for decades. Thames Television took over the complex in 1968 when they were created as an ITV company, and remained there until Thames Television ended on December 31st 1992. In 1993 Teddington continued as an independent studio complex.
I loved watching Benny Hill. he made me laugh so hard. Great comedian.😂😂😂😂😂😂
"I wash my clothes in Tide...because it's too cold outtide!"
Forever Missed ! Thumbs up liked for you.
Benny Hill was my favourite comedian in the 80's I'm only 43 but he was brilliant.
Put him back on the telly he was brileant we need cheering up would be grate
Benny hill, one of if not the funniest guys in the 70s/ 80s. This man still makes me laugh to this day. He just wanted the world to laugh and laugh we did. So thank you Benny hill for showing us how to laugh, let's not be so serious and let's start laughing again.
Comedic genius and that’s all you need to know about Benny Hill ❤
Hey funny is funny and some times all the more BECAUSE it’s not politically correct , that’s exactly what makes it funny , we can be so serious , we need our funny bones tickled from time to time and he sure as hell tickled mine 😂 thank you Benny boy
Being PC wasn't a thing back then, not by a long shot.
FU
Benny Hill was a great talent. He really seemed like he would be a delightful person to have as a friend or neighbour.
I grew up in Molesey and never realised the proximity to so many stars. Until i moved out of the town and got nostalgic!
Wow! How sad. They took his baby(the show)away from him.
They killed him with that.
Too bad RUclips wasn't around then. He could have continued his work on this platform..
I first watched the Benny Hill Show in the 70’s and I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE BENNY HILL SHOW

I cannot stand Hollyweird, the tabloids, the "fashions", critics, the back biting that goes with it. Those people are rotten and evil. Benny was awesome!
Yes he was the best!
@@TalesofFameandFate y
Great documentary! The only thing I must say, and forgive me, Thames is pronounced, "Tems."
Yes!
Except if it’s the Thames River, Connecticut- Sfaims river.
The feminists who hates Benny were jealous of the women on his show . because they were ugly old trout's who didn't like there husband's watching it
Benny's show was the main source of comedy when I was a kid growing up in Texas. It's sad the way his life ended, but I guess many of us go out in a similar fashion. However, his memory and legacy live on in the hearts of millions of fans.
Amen to that. Thanks for watching.
👍👍 🇬🇧 !
I love this series.. keep up the great work
Thank You
My favorite late night show as a teenager here in the US.
That was well done. Do more please.
Thank you. We had to take a break from production but more are on the way.
My dad had kids later in life, so needless to say by the time I was a teenager there was quite the generation gap between us.
There was one main thing that would always bonded us was the two of us staying up late into the night, just the two of us watching the Benny Hill Show. 😂😂
We would even have private jokes between us pertaining to the show.
Benny was not only making people laugh, he put people together in ways he never knew.
Both my dad and Benny are gone now and I miss them both. 😊
R.I.P. Thanks dad for being you
Thanks Benny for the laughs.
He lived for working, he never lived like a star, Nobody knows whatever happened to he's millions, but we all hope the girls all had a share

Benny Hill was a true international treasure it is a shame that the British government did not honor him at the Olympics
Hands up if you paused the video when he pronounced Thames as "tames" instead of "tems" and looked to see if anyone had written about it in the comments section.
LOL yes more people than I can count. You know when you make a boo boo and it haunts you forever... LOL
@@TalesofFameandFate Not to worry, the video over all was very good.
He was one of our all time greats in my book.
Yes he was and his show really should be put back in re-run on TV.
You've took this almost word for word from the other documentary on here u tricky content creator. Tsssk
I loved the Benny Hill Show. It was comedy before its time. God bless Benny Hill and long live that comedy!
Glad you enjoyed it
It was at the right time. They probably would not show it now due to stupid people complaing about it. Comedy has gone downhill now as they have to watch what they say. No one would take offence in those days unlike now.
@@davidm3maniac201 Yessir. We were a better world when we didn't get offended at everything and could make fun of ourselves. WTF happened? lol

The end was very sad
Loved watching this guy growing up. Great memories.
Couldn't agree more!
I never knew that he was never married or even gay or even had a girlfriend or children, I always thought that he had a wife and children. Such a good comedian. I don't think that Harry Hill could say that he was related to him cause nobody wouldn't believe him.
A true comedy genius,we will never see his like again,Hope your resting in peace with the other greats Benny.
6:17 The narrator failed to mention that the man pictured beside Benny is none other than the great Bob Monkhouse.
Ah yes. Very good observation!
Admittedly, in modern times, his humour might be a little off...but wow! I loved it. He deserved better treatment.
what's 'off'?
They duplicate but can’t compare to Benny Hill while I’m only 45 years old I remember watching this guy and loved him from that point on... Would love to watch some of those classics
Benny was hounded by the pc brigade and alternative comedians he was a shy and private man who I would often see shopping in Southampton where people left him alone I think he enjoyed his life and was a great lover of France and the french lifestyle he was also one of the funniest comedians England has ever seen and yet there is no statue or proper memorial to him in Southampton which is a disgrace

Thanks it was a fun one.
You are so right. We all miss him. Thanks for watching.
Thank You Mr. Hill for all the laughs..you are truly one of the funniest people to ever lived..

I loved the Benny Hill show. I thought he had the best show on TV. Amazing how jealous people got and tried to cancel his show. I don't think his comedy will ever be out dated. Funnest damn shows I've ever seen. RIP Benny Hill.
You said it! I believe there was a LOT of jealousy going on about his success.
