Midge is such a likeable guy and so much down to earth. And he is a great musician. I'm basically a hard rock fan and, particularly into Lizzy, but I also liked Midge's work in Ultravox. I had all Ultravox records from the moment Midge was in the band. Ultravox was the only one of the, what were they called, New Wave and New Romantic bands that I could relate to. I even liked his work in the teenie band Slik where I intially got aware of him.

I wish I could be "the worst guitarist Lizzy ever had". Listen to the live version of "Whisky in the jar" in Cork. I think it was taken in 1980. The lead guitar was played by Midge Ure. This ist the best live recording I´ve ever heard. Thank You, Midge.

Lol @ 3:39. But In reality Lizzy didn't have any bad guitarists because Lizzy was the best band of all time. Hats off to Midge Ure.

Let's be honest: Brian Robertson, Gary Moore, Eric Bell, Scott Gorham, John Sykes, Snowy White... you'd have to be a damn fine guitarist not to be the worst of the bunch in that company.

I have a LOT of time for Midge Ure. He’s very talented musically and should be admired for also helping Bob Geldof get Band Aid and then Live Aid off the ground. A fab guy! Love ‘im. Cx 💖

Most guitarists could play rhythm guitar for lizzy but those lead harmonys are incredible. I cant imagine trying to be gary moores replacement. The pressure must have been immense.

Midge is a class act. He always pays homage to Phil. He knows what a true talent Phil was. I saw a video of him playing Little Girl In Bloom on acoustic at Vibe for Philo and people were talking...he stopped playing and ripped into them telling them to show some respect. Then finished the song. Man I miss Phil. Lizzy For Life!!!

Midge could create a fantastic 1 hour feature film on the subject, show it in a great cinema, and Generation ZArse would turn up and spend most of it on their phones doom scrolling through pro 9/11 videos before going out to the nearest pro hamas protest that their idiot influence + peer group had told them to go, and they have to fit in and take a short selfie video to post to wanktok.
Yea, I'm not exactly impressed with them. Does it show?. ;)

Crazy story - "never been to America, never been anywhere" - but the first flight overseas was on Concorde ... Lucky guy, it was always my dream to fly on Concorde ... and then to play huge festivals. Must have been a thrill ride for Midge these days with Thin Lizzy.

Mr. Robertson was in a different band at that point, Wild Horses… true, he was fired from Thin Lizzy too. Even if he had been free, I wonder if he would have been so eager to go back… at least, not very cheaply. Maybe Mr. Ure was the best value option when you think about it.

Phil must've been out of his mind when he called Midge out of all people to replace Gary Moore. LOL At least Midge knows he was the worst guitar player Lizzy ever had and has a sense of humor about it. They should've called Dave Flett (who replaced Midge on the Japan tour) to begin with and actually kept him!

  • @ekbergpeter6987

I hated when he replaced John Foxx in Ultravox. I always did hate him since that even if it was not his fault that John left. Now when hear him saying he was probably the worst guitarplayer Lizzy had, I realize he must be a humble and nice guy. And actually pretty good musician and singer as well.

    • @krasteff
