Sorry I missed this question and your kind words This is an electric motor 1/4 horse 1725 rpm I went to the hardware store and bought a shaft and attached a drill chuck. Take a screen shot of it and any hardware store should be able to make this happen. Thank you
Wow, what a great video! Your edges are amazing! Thanks for sharing your methods.
Sorry I missed your kind words John!! Thanks my friend
Wax and elbow grease!!
Well I have plenty of wax and canvas and dye, but I just finished my last can of elbow grease. Great video George!👍🏼
😂 I hate when that happens Thank you Agar for starting my day off with a good laugh!!
@@viktorgeorge9144 Biggest problem I have is getting the can of elbow grease open!🤣🤣😂
Beautiful edge, there’s nothing like knowledge and hard work.
I appreciate the kind comments Bob Thank you
Another very helpful video. And thats what a chalkboard looks like👍
Thank you I’m glad you’re watching and that they are helpful. Means a lot to know that and I especially appreciate the time you took to leave a kind word🤙
Thank you again for the awesome tool tips!
Thanks Joan Homemade tools are the best!! Appreciate ya
Just found your channel, where were you 20 yrs ago? I made holsters for a pair of cimarron thunderers 3 1/2 in & a pair of 4 3/4 in but could never figure out how to burnish the edges. So simple with the right teacher. Keep on keeping on !
Excellent tutorial. Filled in a couple of gaps in my process.
So glad it was helpful in that regard. I also appreciate you taking a moment to say so
Great information and presentation. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching🙌
Nice, you are a great teacher, explaining thoroughly with out dragging it out.
Thank you my friend!!
That’s awesome great lessons keep them coming George I love learning from old school craftsmen
With such positive support how could I not😂🙌 Seriously Thank you
Thank you
I appreciate that Lyman Thanks
Nice and helpful lesson...thanks for sharing Yours secrets!!!!
I appreciate the positive comments and I’m glad some information in it was helpful Thank you
Very helpful. Can’t wait to put together a wax coated canvas wheel! Bravo George! Cheers Jack/salty badger leather
Hello Jack. It’s so nice to have my Instagram Makers family visit my channel. Thanks very much my friend for the support and as always kind words
Quality leather is a must for getting a good edge finish!
One of the most important aspects 🤙
Great video George, Pat @ Casner Mtn Studios
Thanks Pat! I appreciate that my friend
Viktor another great video - thanks for sharing that is a great edge. It is a lot of work but it produces great results.
Thanks Stephen! Sometimes I’m on auto pilot while burnishing simultaneously solving all the worlds problems😂
Viktor, where did you find and what is that drill chuck to motor shaft adapter called on the polisher? Great video.
Amazing work, to me it's therapy. Wonderful!
I couldn’t agree more Thanks!!
Excellent upgrade. Thank you for these teaching videos.
I appreciate the kind words Daniel Thx
Great video Professor, love the way you explain. The chuck board was a nice touch.
Hey I appreciate that very much and thank you for humoring me😂 You rock my friend
Awesome lesson George. I needed this lesson. Now to locate some of the suggested tools. Affordable sanding wheels I haven’t found yet. I like the suggestion of the auto body tools. Thanks for your continuing video lessons..!
Thanks Harley sometimes that’s half the battle finding good tools that work. I appreciate you!
Awesome. I learn multiple things watching each of your videos. I am old school as well and I like the chalkboard
Thanks Gary I appreciate you taking a moment of your time to tell me that. It’s sincerely appreciated
Wish I still lived in Alaska !!
You are welcome. Most people that leave Alaska return or wish the could. I personally don’t see myself leaving Alaska. Keep the videos coming.
I was in Fairbanks (Eielson) for 7 years before Uncle Sam said move along Love the great state!!!
Beautiful edges. Thanks for sharing your technique and tools used. I never thought of adding dye to the edge after waxing. Great tip
Thanks for the kind words. Even tho it’s alittle labor intensive, I enjoy seeing the results of each step of the process. I appreciate you watching
These steps will improve my edges for sure. Always wondered how to make my edges shine. 🔪🎸
Thanks Paul No matter the edge product, wax, Tokonole, gum trag or Martins Mix the result is dependent on the sanding and lots of it😂 Thanks for watching and commenting
I greatly appreciate you sharing your experience, thank you.
And I appreciate your kind words. It’s my pleasure Bob
Great video. That's the hardest part. Slicking . By hand. Man that's some good work. I use boot polish hi shine. Have to let it dry . Or heat gun work good. Then water and cotton balls. Or a buffing brush . Nice shine. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Thanks!! You are too kind
I like the fact that you’ve found a method that works and you’ve put in the time to perfect it. No rules in our leatherwork game🙌🙌
Hey Vicktor, thanks for sharing your skills and how you go about making old school ways , a lot of time tested no short cut ways that never fail ! Nice ... reddoc custom leathers Chicago
I always appreciate your supportive and kind words my friend. Thank you
George, I heard you mention you also use a shoe polishing wheel. What material is it made of cotton, horse hair, etc.... Thank-you. I've learned so much from you! You have helped me take my craft to the next level!!!
I really appreciate the kind words and yes the polishing wheel(s) I use on an old shoemaker’s finishing line is Horsehair and the other is a cotton polishing wheel. I’m so glad these videos are helpful for ya!
When are you dropping your next video? And could you talk a little about pricing the sheaths, or do you sell them as a set?
@@FrankieG411 I should be finishing Vol 12 of my Knife Sheath School series this Saturday night or Sunday Thanks for supporting my channel and great idea about pricing. I’ll include alittle something about that. Thanks again
Beautiful! Wow!
Always appreciate your kind words Mason Thanks
Great video George. I love your techniques and appreciate you sharing. I have not used sandpaper that fine, but will give it a try now! Looking forward to seeing how much more slick it will become!
Thanks Fred! Yes taking edges to a higher grit will make them slippery slick and shiny Sometimes if I’m bored I’ve gone up to 2500 just for the fun of seeing the results. Definitely not realistic or practical 😂
10:19 PM Pacific. Watched and liked all your videos. Question, while you were burnishing the edge you mentioned we’d have to expand to the other edges as well. Good point but how do you wax them all as well as the welt edge with most of them sewn already in place? Especially the wax/weatherproof add without risking your sheath. CSLG
I appreciate the kind words Stephen and thanks for watching. All the individual parts of the sheath are burnished before they’re sewn together This sheath was just to demonstrate the edge technique Good point tho!!
George good day..... Can you please tell me more about your motor like what HP ? Im guessing 1/3 or 1/4? Thank you.
1/4 hp 1725
What about your sanding motor, horse power, speed? Thanks
@@newapologist it’s an old single phase 1/4 horse at 1725 rpm 🤝
Quick question, what rpm is your motor ?
1725
@@viktorgeorge9144 thx. I'm going to set one up and didn't want to use one that went too fast
Hello Viktor, coming back to this video... I think I remember you talking in a more recent video about your beeswax/glycerine mix, and in this one you're talking about beeswax/parafine, so now I'm confuse, which one is it? ^^ And do you make it yourself? Just melting the two together? I have to say I prefer burnishing my edges with a glycerine soap block as I find the beeswax sticky. But beeswax is more protective, so a mix could be nice, just not sure if I can melt glycerine soap and if it will mix well with beeswax. Just wanted to ear from you before I try it ! ^^ Can't wait for your next video!
I probably didn’t articulate that well😂 It’s actually either and by that I mean a 50/50 blend of beeswax and paraffin as a burnishing wax or just a little edge moisture with water and a glycerin bar rub. Both of these work great, however I find that if I have some microscopic pin holes on the edge the wax blend fills them better leaving a smoother finish. Both require the tedious hand process of burnishing tho . I mix my beeswax and paraffin in a double boiler to make my edge cakes Hopefully that helps and if not, I’m good with an old fashioned phone call or text (520)909-8256 Arizona time
Cheers my friend
@@viktorgeorge9144 Maybe I remember it wrong from the other video ^^ I'll try a mix of beeswax and paraffin then, see if I like it more than a little water and glycerine bar. It is a tedious hand process, but I do like it, just have to appreciate the slow tasks ^^ Thank you for always being helpful! I'm in europe so I might shoot you a message sometime then! Cheers
Words are hard sometimes
The paper sack is just enouth fri tion to polish the sande sdge, I believe ...
