Hello [Tea Time With] Travis ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

I am 70 years old and have seen at least 30 live concerts with some of the greatest rock bands in history and have to say Wakken is the best even through video. consider them the best in 40 years.

Hi Travis, I have been asking you to listen to Nightwish a couple of times. Thank you for taking the time to do so. I'm happy to see you enjoyed it as much as I thought you would. You've only seen a bit of what they can do though (and yes, this was just 1 song). If you dive a little deeper into their discography, you'll see that their music is very diverse. They'll surprise you time and again. For some background info on this awesome band, I'll gladly refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment. He will also have a long list with song suggestions for you. Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken ( pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she
got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.

As they say this it the tip of the iceberg. Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band with a Dutch lead vocalist & a multi instrumentalist from the UK.
A good friend of mine who I met in the internet several years ago told me, when I told him about this song, that he actually was present at the Wacken 2013, but they didnt see it because they thought Nightwish would be boring.
I heard a soul break when I showed him the performance.
This is a great first Nightwish song because it showcases several things they are masters of but if you continue on the Nightwish rabbit hole, with every song you will start saying "this is my new favorite Nightwish song"! Just follow Gabriel's list and you will be set but eventually when you learn more about the band and decide to do The Poet and the Pendulum, make sure to research everything about this song before reacting to it.
Hey Travis, it's a mystery how so many reactors are unaware of what is happening on YT ,not a criticism just an observation, NW is the most reacted to band on YT with an average of 40-50 reactions per week, GLS is the most reacted to song on YT with many vocal coach reactors having over 2 Million views ! The most reaction views of any one song is 2.8 Million for GLS Wacken, Wacken 2013 is the most reacted to concert on YT as well, in other words this is the Hype up on YT

Travis....the rabbit hole that is Nightwish is deep and glorious! I discovered them in 2020....and the first thing I thought was, " Why haven't I heard of them??? " I am 64 years old and I have listened to hard rock & heavy metal for over 5 decades! Now...I am a full out Nightwish fanatic! I am trying to acquire everyone of their CDs for my collection!
I saw the Gabriel has already posted here...and his advice is really great. I followed it and now...I just venture out into the unknown to find songs I really on my own! As you've already seen the Nightwish fandom is very passionate! I've been here for your Pentatonix reactions, but I was very excited to see you have finally found your way to Nightwish. (yes, my musical tastes are extremely varied!) Other fans have already left a lot of great suggestions, so I'm going to put in a good word for Floor's covers that are on her own channel on RUclips. She does some great metal versions of various songs, including "Let It Go" from Frozen! She does a q&a video series on Fridays which is always fun and you can get to know more about her if you're so inclined. The band's two former singers, Tarja Turunen (founding member) and Anette Olzon (who replaced Tarja and preceded Floor) also have solo work in addition to Nightwish that's worth checking out as well.
Your life just entered the next stage. The part filled with music excellence and sheer beauty. Nightwish will never not amaze you, whatever song you are listening to. Tuomas, the keyboard player that writes all the songs, is simply a genius from the ranks of Beethoven, Bach the likes..... All the members are so solid you can barely believe this is live. But it is. The vocals....Floor's vocals.... She really hold those notes that precise without electronic trickboxes. She is the very best singer on this planet, with an unprecedented stage presence. She rules 82.000 people in this video. The whole crowd is mesmerized. But never forget: It's not just her. It is the combination of the best band and songwriter in the world, combined with the best singer in the world.

Nightwish army member here. Nightwish is created in Finland with another singer, Tarja.
Floor, the singer, from the Netherlands is since 2012, officially 2013 the singer of Nightwish. She is amazing, I dare to say the best female singer we have on his planet.
This is symphonic metal, so the music is more like a symphony, different parts. The background music is played by the London Symphonic Orchestra, and they recorded it for the shows.
The keyboard player, Tuomas, is the composer of their songs, he is brilliant. They use all kinds of different instruments, Troy from Ireland joined them and he plays all flutes, bagpipe, all kinds of old snare instruments and the guitar. He sings beautiful too.
This is Northern European music, we love it here.
Enjoy your Nightwish travel, because of the diversity of her voice and the instruments played. She grunts, growls, sings classic and opera...she does it all. She had a classical voice education on the conservatory and finished the Rock Academy in the Netherlands.

Behold the Kings and the Queen of symphonic metal! Best band I’ve ever seen live. The energy and emotion is overwhelming sometimes when hearing them live and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve shed a tear or two at certain songs.
Floor Jansen the Queen of metal ❤️is a classically trained and a professional voice coach with at least 20 years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes and different styles and languages, her previous bands After Forever, Northward, and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon live shows and a Dutch reality show beste zangers 2019 and 2021 awesome 😎

Think of Nightwish as the band where Wagner, Bach, Hans Zimmer and John Williams meet Mettalica, Iron Maiden and Pantera. Its an all star cast led by one of the greatest composers of our time, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) and fronted by one of the greatest singers of our time. Welcome and enjoy, because there are no two similar songs. And Symphonic metal is basically classical music with electronics and electricity.
PS: Floor Jansen is highly skilled and trained singer who is also a vocal coach. Classicaly trained who can sing anything she wants…. This is basically 30% of what she can do.

I would watch the entire Wacken concert and then move on to some of their newer music. Floor also has out out many solo covers which are in all cases better than the originals and she also performed on Beste Zangers 2019. This is just the beginning of a very long journey. I've been following both Nightwish and Floor since 1997 and it still amazes me how good they are. I have been fortunate enough to see them live on 5 different occasions, one of my favorites being the 2015 Masters Of Rock concert and no other show I've seen lives up to the hype like Nightwish. But take your time and watch what you want when you want. There's no right or wrong way to experience this band. Thanks for the reaction!

I was there in 2013 in the middle of all this people. And it was like a dream. Floor enchanted me at the moment she opened her mouth. And I am totally fallen in love with her since this moment. She is the only one who brings me to tears.
Nightwish was one of my favorite bands many years before this concert. But now at this moment for me it was a perfect moment and match.
You should go an watch them live if you can. I promise you... it will be so awesome!

Every song from Wacken 2013 concert is worth a reaction video. The concert was so damn good. There is not one "downer" song in that concert. The only question is: Is Floor Jansen a Warror Princess, a Queen or a goddess? I tend to goddess

That is one epic cup of tea! Nightwish is a Finnish band with a Dutch lead vocalist. This is a Score, as in a classical piece of music. Much more than just another rock song. You now heard some of the skills our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen has to offer as the third and present singer of Nightwish. She is the most versitale female singer of our time. Just wait when she gets in full Dutch Windmill mode with her hair. She added the ending herself and this song has become their anthem since. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some background information on her. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also has some classical singing education, but not as much as you would expect when you hear her sing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The song 'Disdain' is a good example:

Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is very challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating is this iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in Open Air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band as the relationship between Nightwish and Annette was strained even before she got ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp'for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then.
