    I just started doing in home care and the company did not train me at all. So i came to a client's house for the first time this morning and she uses this product because she is bed ridden. I had never heard or an external catheter let alone know how to change one. I instantly came to youtube and this is the first video that popped up (thankfully because it is very thorough). As a new care giver i find each client has unique needs and i am grateful that this video exists. I believe i can do this confidently even for my first time.

    My mom is 80 and was recently admitted into a local ER. The nurse suggested using this in lieu of a regular catheter or bed pan as they are so invasive and embarrassing for her. My mom was against it at first, but we convinced her to try it... She wished she heard of it years ago!! Thank you to whoever created the PureWick!

    I'm a nurse of 35 years and this is such a great tool, but PLEASE nurses: educate your patient! I recently broke my pelvis and had MY turn as a patient- this product was a LIFESAVER for me, but the nurses and techs were not familiar enough to be comfortable with educating me, and as pain mgmt was my goal I really needed assistance. If I had the knowledge that this video shares, i would have been so much more comfortable!

    They used this on me in the hospital and most of the nurses, but not all, knew what they were doing, I purchased one for my home as I'm recovering from hip replacement surgery. I did a trial run this afternoon and it went well. However, it didn't work well in the middle of the night. Just watched your video and now I know what I did wrong. So, thanks 😊.

    Hello. I know this video is 3 or so years old. My mom was just released from the hospital on 11/8/23. She used this in the hospital unfortunately insurance companies don't cover it (hospital Dr. And her family Dr. tried) they said it was still fairly new. We paid for the kit closed to 700. Not including External Catheters. We paid 200. for a case of 30. I'm so glad I came across this video. It helped us so much...

    I'm an international nurse and never encountered this type of external cath for female patients and I've only heard this from us nurses on social media therefore i got really curious how it looks like and how to use it. So i search it on RUclips. And thankfully there are tons of tutorials and your video is one of the best because you didn't only demonstrate it but you also discussed the indication and contraindications and other things.... thank you.

    Good to hear the reviews, especially that the Purewick can be washed!! Very expensive. I find that the blue covering needs to be more bendable to conform better. After being put on Lasix I desperately needed this type of system. The big problem that I have is that it does leak a lot so be warned about this. It is also a problem when you can't sleep well on your back Turning is a little hard to do. I also find that the suction needs to be just a little higher. How about inventing some type of pad that would be hooked to suction??

    The nurse should spread the inner labia and place the Pure Wick. The pure wick placement is 1/4 at the pelvic bone, the other 3/4 between the open labia. Close legs on the labia to prevent movement.

      Same. I had a 3-day hospital stay earlier this month and they had this as an alternative to a bed pan. I am non-weight bearing wheelchair user and didn't want to get a catheter. Most of the nurses knew how to place it properly so I didn't have any issues. It did feel a little drafty but otherwise so much better than me having to buzz a nurse every hour for assistance while on IV fluids.

I literally wasn't comfortable just going because it of course felt like I would wet the bed. I can't find any guidance for the patient on purewick use anywhere. That would be very helpful for patients who aren't incontinent but immobile especially. Please create something to educate the patients on use of this.

When you call, you're going to get an answering service who will take your info (name, address, number, email) they will send you an info pack and can transfer you to a specialist. Your information is safe. If you don't wanna provide your info, just ask for the number to customer service which will then send you directly to a specialist.

      There are several videos on RUclips that demonstrate how to use. Also the supplier/seller can provide info. You can contact them for more details on the home system, and they can also send you a sample "wick" to get an idea of the contraption that is used between the legs. I read of a user who had a reaction/rash to the wick due to the material; however, I understand there's a 'latex free' version of PureWick on the market, which you can request. Also, there's a indicated weight range, and people who are underweight may have issues getting it to work. Additionally, it may not be suitable for confused patients, those at certain stages of dementia who might pull it out, etc. For more Q&A &/or to order: www.purewickathome.com/how-to-get-purewick/?ReferralCategory=IP&i=1&invsrc=9190829735&campaignid=10022568465&adgroupid=101997904078&keyword=%2Bpurewick&trkid=V3ADW337141_101997904078_kwd-345743907751__434304596573_g_c__&atrkid=V3ADW69C87D08_101997904078_kwd-345743907751__434304596573_g_c___&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsveWo5S37AIVBInICh3BAw0lEAAYASAAEgJSEfD_BwE

    What I am worried about because I bought this system from my mother who is 81 years old. They use it on her in the hospital and that's why I bought it for her. But during this tutorial they said not to use a diaper or a pull-up vocally, they said this but it did not show this in the closed caption printing. This worries me. The studio is helpful because in the actual fuel with instructions they made it sound like you had the spread the lips of the urethra and that it would hold it in plate and that word me as I couldn't find my mother's urethra because she's a one yours old and used to be very heavy at one time and lost a lot of weight. However I'm going to give it another try and do exactly as this video hasn't started and hopefully I will have better luck and know that I have not license my money. I want my mother to be comfortable and confident.

      @H&W Coach I believe you need a prescription from you doc first in order to get this. Or call Medicaid to ask how can you obtain this product. Also I search on eBay and they had one for $200.

If not its torture.after the first wrong placement the bed was soaking wet after tha its just torture Its not natural to just pee in bed so i hold it without intention being scared that its placed wrong. Asked all day ever nurse i could find to check and still did not work. So sad.

    • @bluevegas4249
      @bluevegas4249 4 года назад

      The important part is to be sure that small hole isn't blocked by anything. From my experience, this worked fine while laying on my side but was uncomfortable to wear sitting up. That might depend on the size of the patient, I am a very low body weight.

    What does it sound like?

    • @bluevegas4249
      @bluevegas4249 4 года назад

      The suction itself is a constant hum in the room that is just white noise. Once urine crosses over the filter wall the suction quickly picks it up and carries it to the collection container making a sound similar to the suction at a dentist office. And once the urine stream ends, it goes back to the subtle hum.
