Pure class. Brilliant little nugget of an upload. Thankyou. Basil was an incredible actor. So inteligent and quick. I so enjoyed watching his sherlock holmes movies. With his good friend nigel bruce as watson. Both men i hope you are resting in peace. I still watch your films to this day. In 20 years time it will be 100 years since The hound of the baskervilles and the adventures of sherlock holmes, both made in 1939. Lastly i no basil and his wife Quida held big parties in there house. They were meant to be ledgendary, alot of hollywood stars came along. What i would give to be able to jump back in time to be at one of his big parties. They used to dress up in you could say stage clothing and party. Marlene deitrich was always at basils parties. This show here i cant help but think the first lady that spoke was trying to get her foot in the door to one of basils partys and i wouldn't be surprized if basil had a quiet word in her ear backstage. Do come along my dear. I will send you an invite and a car will pick you up. Brilliant basil, thanks again for this upload. Class.
I've always wondered about what the English call a posh accent. Now, Rathbone's accent has always seemed to me to be Aristocratic, but I don't know if it is what is now called posh. Is it?
Basil spoke with a British accent known as 'received pronunciation' - and in that day and age it was even a more heightened form, which also could have been due to his training and his early career on the stage.
As Basil Rathbone was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to British parents, later moved to England, but then spent much of his time in the USA he had what he described as a 'British colonial accent.' Close, but not quite the upper class accent in England at the time.
Anything with basil rathbone in it, he's just so lovely
Gotta love Basil. What a classy gent
Gwen King most definitely I agree with you
Such a classy gentleman........

A great deal of charm as well as class!!!!!
Great Sherlock Holmes, a great villain and an
excellent 🗡 swordsman.
Twice British army fencing champion, according to wikipedia.
I've never before seen this guy just being himself. On screen he's always larger than life.
My favorite man! He looked fantastic!
Basil😅 I love him. Such a gentleman. The best Sherlock 👌
Basil Rathbone was and still is The Greatest. He was also The Greatest Sherlock Holmes of all time.
Very likeable person. RIP
All class. What a beautiful man.
The TV game show, "I've Got A Secret" was probably the basis from which the even more successful TV game show, "What's My Line?" was later created.
Show aired Christmas evening, Thursday, December 25, 1952.
What a fun piece of footage to share. I love Basil Rathbones sense of humour.

...the really 'posh' accent is the 'heightened received pronunciation' accent, so yes, Basil's accent was close to that. 😊

Thanks. I really became confused when I heard Boris Johnson's accent described as "posh." If so, the word has no meaning.
@@kingskidgirl2 What does it mean a posh accent please ?

Jane Meadows as lovely a face as her sister Audrey's.
But only a fraction of the talent. Her best career move was to marry Steve Allen...
Jayne Meadows was a very attractive woman.
What did the time to you 🙁
I read that B.R. liked to discuss the consistency of his bowel movements over lunch. If so, he wasn't that classy.
I doubt your veracity.
