Hi Patti, I just got myself a 5-octave semihollow Array Mbira and I’m loving its mesmerizing sounds in person! The bass notes are truly out of this world. Just wanted to let you know you were one of the first RUclipsrs that inspired me to get this piece of art (was considering purchasing a few years ago, but only got it last week). Stunning both visually and aurally. And you seem to be the only one on this platform educating us about this intricate instrument (apart from Bill himself)! I really appreciate your hard work. Now I need to practice every day to be able to record a tune eventually! Still getting used to its layout but hopefully it’ll become second nature soon. 😊
When I first saw this musical instrument, I thought it was quite difficult to play on it. But this arrangement of tones makes things much clearer and easier. Maybe it's even easier than the piano. Greetings from Bulgaria :)
Awesome that it helped make more sense to you Edward. That was the idea ;-) Thanks for watching and I did not know you were in Bulgaria! For some reason I thought you were here in the states. Greetings from Texas! ;-) Take care, Patti
Cool. Thank you, Patti. You said you had a video about my layout question, and sure enough ... you do! Thats a very clever layout. I play mbira dzavadzimu, which is has 3 octaves & some slightly odd key placements.
Yes! And how cool. I usually check out the channels of people that stop by but I haven’t had a chance just yet to hop on over to yours in a few! I’ve been soooo busy but I’m heading there now. 👍🏻
Hi Patti. Just want to know if you ever play jazz standards on Mbira? (Autumn Leaves? All the Things You Are? How Insensitive? I could go all day...) If you have any jazz tunes in your repertoire, I'd love if you perform and post them. Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you so much for those suggestions. I would love to give one a try. Man,,,, I wish I had 48 hours in a day. So many songs I’d love to do😉 So little time. Thank you again for your suggestion. Take care! Patti
Interesting; but confusing. Are there any Moira’s w/ a chromatic layout? Also I see you never you any sheet music. Do you find it easier to memorize songs or is it just more practical for whatever reason?
Thanks Cindy. Yes, the guy that creates the Array Mbira can make then Chromatically also. You can get them both ways. No sheet music. I do memorize what I have learned. It's extremely difficult to look up from this instrument and play it. So my eyes tend to keep on the tines. But I've attempted to play with my eyes closed. It's just so difficult. Especially on the 5 octave Array Mbira.
Awww for the purpose of being able to have many notes close together and not have to stretch to reach many octaves. I know its strange and also creates much work to figure out how to play familiar music. But to get that beautiful sound its so worth it to me. I have also become so familiar with its layout now some music comes together much easier. I guess like any odd instrument its just learning how to play it👍🏻
Could you make a video where you go through absolutely the whole record from the lowest note to the highest note !? I have not seen anyone do it and it would be very useful, I am about to build my own chaep prototype! Thanks greetings from Argentina

@@chiyenyumba7135 Yes! Absolutely. I hope to one day have an authentic Mbira and also take lessons for authentic music.
Very beautiful do you have to polish i the wood and dust it often and keep the metal from rusting?
Polish and oil once a month 👍🏻😉
