    There most definitely is a wrong way to sharpen the tungsten!!!! The grind needs to be in line with the length of the tungsten, if you sharpen the tungsten perpendicularly then the arc will be wide and will wander. The grind needs to be parallel to the tungsten to keep a clean and stable arc. Fact

    Right around 17:53. The main reason you use a stainless steel wire brush to prep the surface isn't so much because of "dirt in a porous surface", it is to break up the oxidation layer that is on top. If I recall, that oxidation layer melts at about 1,000 degrees higher than the actual aluminum, so if it is not broken up and cleaned off, you will overheat the aluminum trying to melt it. At best you will have a crappy weld that is full of soot, and at worst you will make a great big pile of aluminum Poo Poo. Keep in mind also, that that oxidation begins as soon as you stop welding. When we used to do the Aluminum tank trucks (Oil and Gasoline), we used to get them steam cleaned, wipe the components with acetone, then a treatment caustic aluminum cleaner, and finally a final wire brushing. As he said, it can't be too clean! Cheers!

    Ok fellas, the reason is, you would learn in school brazing aluminum. You get the torch on aluminum and the coupon can be liquid, yet hold its shape! Why? Because aluminum oxide takes a much higher temp to melt. Ok you mentioned it.
    A/C is not clean and penetrate at same time,it’s alternating, clean penetrate clean penetrate clean penetrate. It’s why we use A/C. To graduate we welded coke cans together.

    So, do you prefer the Ahp for aluminum compared to the primeweld ??
    Love the clarity of explaining basics in this video

  • @pwrcycles4735
    @pwrcycles4735 3 месяца назад

    Alot of videos on the internet for the primeweld but not many for the ahp. Looks like the people who buy ahp get straight to business and dont have time to create content for social media, where as primewld the company paying rewards to people to showoff their products...just my 2-cents here. Or trying to make sence why not more people show us ahp's.
    When you spend the same dollar amount for these what would you choose..?

    How is 1 amp per thousandth a lot of math for anyone? 1/8" material is .125" so 1a per thousandth = 125a... For the math challenged 1 divided by the fractions denominator= the decimal number for one unit of that fraction. For example 1 / 4 = .250, 1 / 8 = .125, 1 / 16 = .0625", 1 / 32 = .03125", 1 / 64 = .015625". If you don't understand how to read or write decimals of inches or millimetersetc then metal work might not suit you...

    the biggest problem I had learning AL was running too slow (like you see in greg's weld). you can't do that, light up form a puddle and move out. faster = less heat.

    That’s not why you wire brush. It’s to get thru the oxide layer so you can weld. 🤦🏻‍♂️. Not for dirt. Come on if you going to do video about welding aluminum all the info needs to be correct
    And welding with rubber gloves is a bad idea. They weld melt and stick to your skin

  • @truracer20

    The reason for confusion on the leads is because the term ground is used. The correct term is WORK LEAD. It, by way of the WORK CLAMP, attaches to the WORK piece in all scenarios whether you are welding electrode positive or electrode negative. Most people don't know that it is possible to have a positive pole ground, when they hear ground they assume negative pole ground. When trying to teach it is important to use proper terminology.

  • @JD-ub5ic
    @JD-ub5ic 3 года назад +4

    Honestly it seems like its mostly these cheaper import welders that have this ridiculous amount of knobs and buttons - and I think its because it's cheaper to let you play with 100 knobs then have a computer in the welder do it or something not sure. My lincoln tig 200 has 1 dial and a couple buttons and does stick AC/DC tig and everything. Perfect welds every time way less worrying about setup. Not as cheap as an import welder but probably way less intimidating to someone who is new at this.

    • @vintagespeed
      @vintagespeed 3 года назад

      meh. a few extra knobs is worth $1k to me.

    • @JD-ub5ic
      @JD-ub5ic 3 года назад

      @@vintagespeed That's fair enough. The reason I ended up getting a lincoln is just because I was too worried buying any of the imports wouldn't be a 1 time purchase like the lincoln was.
      Could be I'm wrong and the imports stand up to use fine, but every video I find on them is sponsored by the makers of the welder and is almost always a box opening type review not a long term review. Couldn't trust them but to each their own, might be worth the risk for less initial cost for some.
      Another factor is that it was never an apples to apples comparison, the lincoln came with a foot pedal, was higher amperage meaning thicker materials (and allegedly did better with thinner materials as well), etc, so you were giving up a few other things for the cheaper price on the import.
      Imports probably the right choice for a beginner though if they aren't sure if they'll even stick with it or how often they'll use it.
