Thank you for putting a link/description of the tools. A lot of videos I've watched recently don't say what tools are used... And that's frustrating for someone who isn't tool savvy and wants to start a new hobby.
@@BoomCreateTV that's exactly what I do. I start with the cheapest tools possible for the job when it's something I've never done before. But ultimately end up getting mad at myself that I did that because if it's something I really enjoy I just wasted money when I could have gotten exactly what I needed that would have done the job a hell of a lot better! I did that with my first Dremel and wood carving tools. The money I put towards the cheaper ones could have went towards a way better set.
Thanks for Sharing! I inherited a bunch of Dremel tools and a Forden hanging power carver. I have been practicing on wood and the first thing I did is what you suggested. I worked with each bit to see what would be preferable for the box I want to engrave. I also do woodworking so I have a lot of scraps to practice on. And after seeing you carve on a rock I want to try that as well. You gave me the idea to cut a rock in half and use it as an inlay on the top of the box! Thank you!!
Liked the video, it had good pace. Liked the sound track, it was groovy and encouraged engagement. See what i am doing here? I am trying to avoid using a specific word to describe how good this was. But if i had to say it, in one word or less, this video rocks. Okay? Okay! It rocks!! Totally.
Hey, I just found this video, and I wanted to say that thanks for those positive things you said :), this helped out a lot and I'm eager to see more videos from you
I’m just getting started in rock carving too so this was a great video to find. Shame that it’s 2 years old and it doesn’t look like he’s actively uploading. This guy is great and I would’ve loved to see more from him
@@Bulgogi17 I completely missed this comment too. Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping to upload more. Life kind of got in the way. How goes the carving?
Nice - helpful thanks. One suggestion - when you were doing the sped up bits it was hard to see what bit you were using (though I'll learn that as I play) - how about putting a still image of the bit in a corner of the video? That way I can see what you used to achieve something if I'm not figuring it out myself. Thanks again!
Hi! I'm actually using a mix. I have a Harbor Freight rotary tool with a different (Grobet) handpiece attached. I'm making more videos and I'll be showing some more tools. Dremel makes a great product too. Since I made this video, there have been a lot of cool options enter the space.
Hello!! I have a huge question and for this... I need help!! I bought a dremel sometime ago... And its been good... But at the sametime annoying... Which is frustrating cause I can not enjoy the process... I do not know what I am doing wrong or if its the tool its self... Reason why I am taking the liberty to ask a few questions. Is there a reason why a bit will loosen up and move from the position it was needed? (Even when I tighten it up hard?) This is the main one. I use water to prevent the bits to over heat (that is good right?) I need help to identify the right bit for the right rock type... Cause I would see videos and for me I have the right bit... But then when Ive tried them out... It does not work. 😥 I would appreciate the input... Thank you.
Awesome! Okay. 1. bits will loosen up with vibration. Anything you can do to limit vibration will help, so lubrication, better tool or handpiece. But sometimes you can't get around it. and just have to tighten up once in a while. 2. Yes. Use water to lubricate the tool and stone. It will save your tools. I learned this the hard way while making these videos. 3. Rock type is all about preference. I'm no expert, so it's just about color for me. Make sure you are using diamond bits. Good luck!
I am starting to get into stone carving.. Not Even sure what the prof name is.i have a electric tile cutter..diamond plate wheel....so just started searching..I am working with primarily quartz .. Any suggestions on what tools I should invest in?
When I did this, I just kind of went for it. I ended up eating up my diamond bits too fast because I wasn't using enough water. It also keeps the dust down. I would definitely recommend a system that keeps it wet.
Hey man. Good work. May I ask, what was the can of stuff you sprayed on the rock? Is it a wood finish or what was the gloss you spoke of? I want to finish my own project. I'm carving a stone necklace for my partner. I need that last coat to finish it off. Thanks for your time and this video. It was great
As someone who plays at flint napping I will tell you one of the first things you learn is NOT TO BREATH IN THAT DUST. Make sure you have good ventilation and preferably a breeze or fan blowing the dust away from you. One of the main causes of lung problems with nappers is the dust. In the old days of flintlock firearms, the nappers lived very short lives because of breathing the dust. Having said that, it's still pretty cool. I've carved a lot of wood and beat on some rock, but i never tried carving on one. Might give it a try. Just remember, DON'T BREATH IN THE DUST.
Totally. You'll notice that at one point I got a little smarter and had a vacuum running right next to the work. It helped so I wasn't breathing it, and got the dust out of the way so I could see the work.
@@BoomCreateTV i love doing lapidary on rocks using agates as well as others and using diamond wheels the first rule is keep the diamond wheels wet and it helps keep the dust down and if nothing else they will last longer thanks for making the video enjoyed it
Hey! So I live in a military barracks and I'm not allowed to have plug in tools like this inside. I was wondering if I could use a battery powered dremel for this? And if I did get a battery powered dremel from like amazon or something do you think I could bring it to the river with me where I find all my cool rocks and just sit there in the dirt and carve them in the water? I see a lot of people using a water source for their carvings so it doesn't crack from the heat and vibrations. I need som advice please! Like I said, I can't have any tools in my barracks. I just love fishing and I find cool rocks on my adventures.
I think the biggest limit there would be battery life. But it should work as long as you have charge. I should have used a water source, so I ended up wearing down my bits too fast. Start with the cheap ones to get used to it.
What size air compressor do you use if you dont mind me asking? About how many gallongs/psi/cfm? I am wanting to get into carving rocks with a die grinder... ive done two by hand and it takes for ever .. thanks all info is appreciated.
Great question, I'm not using an air compressor. I'm using a rotary flex shaft tool. It's an electric motor with a flexible shaft. I've had a few questions about this so I'm thinking it's time for a video about it.
It's a respirator mask with filters. I should have had water running on the project the whole time, it would have made the bits last longer and reduced dust.

Why a flex shaft Carver and not a Dremel? Is the flex better for stone carving? Just wondering because I have a Dremel already.
you could do it with a dremel, the flex shaft is just more comfortable for long periods
Don't you need water to cool the bit?
Yes. You should absolutely have water, otherwise you wear out the bits faster. I didn't know that when I did this video.

It might, but it probably depends on the stone and what you are doing. They are diamond bits, so it might cut, depending on hardness.
