My story. I came from Germany to the US to see my family (US Army) and got pat down twice even in uniform. Before leaving to go back to Germany I swing by the mall to find some goth pants with as much metal stitched into it as humanly possible. Found exactly what I wanted. Had metal rings up and down each leg on the sides and two chains with loops stitched into the pants down the back. Wore them to my flight with my uniform neatly folded and pressed on the top side of my bag so it’s obvious AF when opened. The guy doing the sanding at the walk through metal detectors just gave me a blank stare as he noticed me and asked “Really?!?” to which I replied with a massive grin “oh ya”! He asked if he could just wand me and I told him with the biggest grin ever “oh no my guy! You’re going hands on! Now get to grabbing me!” He began to term red as he was forced by me to do the pay down this time. Everyone behind me began to laugh as his face almost flowed with red.
The strangest, most bizarre thing I've witnessed i recent times is the RUclips video's title matching the OP's question exactly. This only happens once every two years, so make sure to savor it!

Second personal story. Set the scene: Me, brother (both grown) and dad (40-year veteran business traveler) going home from a family vacation in San Diego. Just cleared security. Everyone putting everything back away just beyond the checkpoint. Brother is replacing his laptop in his bag, and almost loses his grip on it. Dad sees this and, (remember, 40-year business traveler) for reasons known only to God says, "Don't drop that, it'll explode." This less than 50 feet from a TSA checkpoint at a major American airport.
As a look of slowly dawning horror comes over Dad's face, and my brother doubles over trying not to laugh out loud, I have a moment of inspiration and say "Sorry, I didn't hear you, can you repeat that louder and more slowly?"
Nothing came of it, but we do not plan to allow him to forget this.
First time flying alone, I'm at the coach terminal and realise I've lost my credit card. I start panicking, trying to get staff to call the coach company and the airport, and they start a search of the buses. 20 minutes later I realise that the card slipped inside my passport in my bag. They call off the search and I'm so relieved that I head towards the exit and leave my suitcase behind. I realise this just as I get to the exit, panic, and try to run up the down escalator. It takes me too long to figure out why I'm not getting anywhere. Finally I find my case, leave with all my things and then get on the wrong bus.

Back in my study-abroad days I heard an old story of a student from Spain, in the US for a semester, who booked himself a flight from Minneapolis-St Paul to San Jose, Costa Rica... and ended up calling his US university contact from San Jose, California. In his defense, he was neither a travel professional nor a native English speaker.
Also, in the interest of full disclosure a few months after hearing this I booked a flight to Dublin, Ireland from London City airport instead of Heathrow. At least I figured it out in time, though.
It's almost like being ignorant is a requirement of TSA employment.

Worked at an airport and security were laughing that they caught a woman with raw chicken and ten whiskey bottles in her baggage, no one working at the airport got any work done that day, too busy laughing about the chicken and the security got free whiskey that day too lol
i have cats. flew to new zealand. the beagle sniffing luggage had a meltdown. apparently had never done this before, much to the horror of the handler.

Last time I was at an airport we were coming back from a trip pretty late, not sure where my family could claim out bags so I go with my older sister to look around. A homeless man in the corner starts asking us if we were lost and to come over to him in an obvious attempt to lure us over and kidnap us or something. Super creepy.
I worked to work for a company that sold & repaired wheelchairs (including to airports). They went bust in 2018. I flew to Kerry Airport in Ireland in 2019. It's a pretty small airport (literally just a small terminal the size of a shed). They had wheelchairs. Supplied by my former employer... It was just slightly odd.
I want to know more about the story of the MiGs and the Delta flight.

7:39 Wasted opportunity, the security guard should have told him they'd have to do a cavity search. Only funny airport thing I remember is coming back home from Spain, and a guy's case wouldn't fit inthe easy jet scales. For those who aren't aware, when flying Easyjet, your case flying back must be able to fit into the box that Easyjet provides, so it can't be over the same amount that you originaly brought. This one guy was told his case was too heavy, and so he promplty retrieved it, and kicked 7 shades of sh*t out of it until the wheels and handle broke off. It fit in the box after that. So hard to keep a straight face while in the queue behind him.

Airports definitely aren't humorless places. I work in airport operations. We are some of the darkest people. We'd go insane without humor. Thankfully, stupid people are great for a laugh. Drunk people, people off their meds, people on someone else's meds, people that can't read signs (where is baggage claim. Ma'am you're standing in it.), People that get mad because they showed up late for their flight and the aircraft door has been closed, vibrating bags (toothbrush, shaver, dildo. Seriously, take out the batteries before you pack.), and the occasional fence jumper.
