This has literally got to be the top non-clinical career for doctors looking for alternative career options: you can continue using your medical background while having an outlet for your creativity (and it's a lot-lot less stressful than clinical practice). If I only I knew about it back in 2011-2013. 😊
Thank you for this video! I was very useful and motivational for me! I'm a doctor from hungary. I've worked for 4 years in pathology. Right now I work for an insurance company as a heathcare adviser. I would like to make a transition to a more creative field and I've been thinking about it for while now it could be ux. Thank' s a lot for this video! :)
Are you on Linkedin? You could get in touch with Melissa as well as myself there. Also there some other clinical UX'ers in my network and I can point you in the right direction.
Just caught up with this! It's good to hear from someone who's been there and done it - I think for medics it's important to have an idea of what steps to take and, as you say, whether jumping ship will be a financiallly secure option. Also good to talk about developing skills on the side/part time work to make the transition out of medicine smoother (I wish I'd done that hehehe)
Thank you. Some doctors don't mind continuing with clinical practice while planning a transition (e.g. ad hoc locum work), but some others I have spoken with prefer a "clean" break and may need to prepare themselves for a potential drop in earnings while they are developing in a new role. Luckily, there is no right or wrong way of doing it.
Big thing for many when deciding non clinical jobs is the ability to work from anywhere without being confined to a specific region. IT jobs have this feature.
Yes, absolutely. Healthtech and Data Science in Healthcare is really picking up. I would strongly recommend you watching YT channel of a fellow physician who has transitioned into Data Science - ruclips.net/channel/UCDoIFHMTKsgIweO-OZt1ecw. In fact, the past year has demonstrated that more and more companies within various sectors, not just IT, are embracing remote working patterns. I am glad I found this channel. I just started learning UX now and honestly, it's a bit stressful and making me thinknin a different way. I am glad seeing someone who has gone ahead with this. I think I love UX and I want to be good at this. I just can't find the right internship/bootcamp
