I have gotten hooked on your videos. I have figured out that although what you do is very interesting it is you who makes the video worthwhile. I have tried to watch other storage locker videos for example and the people come across as frantic, grating and greedy. You have a soothing quality and your love of people and history shines through like a beacon!
What might have started as short-term storage has a way of morphing into extended storage. For some it could be easier to pay the bill for months or years than deal with the stuff. I find it amazing too but then I think about all the crap I accumulated over the years here at home that I've been too lazy to sort & eliminate. Odd thing is I'll watch Alex sort junk while my hoard gets conveniently ignored.

I would like to ask that if you find items such as the walker or any wheelchairs, cane or other aids please check with your local disability offices to see if there are people in your community who could use the items. Buying these items new can be cost prohibitive for some people.
@jademorgan999 when I upgraded my rolling walker I took my old one to a local group in Wisconsin where I live so they could help others. It was still in good working order I just decided to get one lighter to use and folded up for storage better.
Alex, I always appreciate that you can happily laugh at yourself in videos. There are a lot of folks that takes life too seriously, and there are a lot of folks that can laugh at themselves in private, but their public face avoids any self-deprication, but few that would post a video to RUclips that makes fun of themselves at times. I don’t know that it would be worth anything, but I thought you might want to know that the watch face with the clown on it is Conko the Clown who was the mascot for Conklin Shows which did carnivals and midways across Canada and the US. I’m pretty sure they have since been swallowed up by a bigger company. And I’m pretty sure they used to do the Calgary Stampede midway and maybe Klondike Days too.
In the US - you can donate clothes to a not for profit organization and deduct the current value of those items on your personal or business taxes - the organization can normally provide you with a letter of donation with their estimated value in the letter.
“Current value” being an interesting term of course. No we don’t have that in the UK either, in fact if we sign up with them THEY get more money through tax allowances
I disagree. I don't donate just for the tax deduction, but it would be foolish not to take the write-off for tax purposes if one is itemizing. Our charities do as someone else stated about theirs. They don't assign a value to it. That's up to me. I keep a detailed list of what I donate. @BrendanPNW

I find it hard to believe that payments can be made on these units for years and in the end they’re auctioned off. When I think about a renting a unit I start decluttering because there’s nothing that’s that high a value to warrant paying fees on storing the stuff.

It’s so satisfying watching you go through these lockers with plans to use or donate all of it… Or most of it, at least! I find them all the time on side of the road people putting out for free. I have probably 30 of them. Love them. People local sell some for 5 dollars each. I need to take a better look at the ones i have and hope its worth something. I have a red plastic coca cola crate that holds the 2 ltr bottles. Google says its from the 90s and rare. But i have it up for $10 on marketplace 😅

I hope you go though all of the pockets in all of the clothes. I once lost some valuable jewelry and on the day I moved I was thankful that I did not donate my raincoat......well, that is where I found my jewelry. So many similar stories.
I remember having to go through my mother stuff when she died and it was terrible because I felt like I was invading her space somehow. My guess is a lot of these units are the effects of someone who's died or gone into a home and the family would rather pay to store it than make decisions about disposing of it..
Don't discount those resin shelves. They're always a decent seller in our auctions. Sometimes they even go for over retail, which never ceases to amaze me. But even just on places like Facebook Marketplace, people list them for $40, easily. The toolboxes, I've never seen go for under $100, without tools, so you've definitely gotten your $800 back and then some. Sorry you didn't find the kind of toys that were sellable! lol
That clown watch was kind of interesting. It's the logo for Conklin Amusments. It's a company that travels from town to town setting up fairground amusments. I don't know how wide spread it is, but it's here in Ontario.

Can't always hit a big jackpot. You crafted a fun video out of this salvage operation. Just be careful where you flash some of the junk you find. 😂 Also please wear gloves for these recovery missions. An unexpected rash on a hand could hamper unboxing or camera work. 😮

We can't even donate clothing at our local charity shops atm. They aren't taking any more as they dont have the volunteers to sort it etc. So all our donation clothes will probably mostly go to the dump (land fill). We will try the local women's shelter first of course. I'm in Queensland.
The only donation place that gives a tax receipt in my area (Southern Ontario), is Habitat for Humanity. That guy was probably thinking this guy has an interesting life 😅
I worked for a charity for 7 years (in the USA) and we DID give tax receipts, but from what I understood, you could only claim something like 400 dollars a year. We always left them blank, as assessing value was a difficult proposition, at best. I once had a woman ask me if I could give her a tax receipt (she didn't donate anything, just wanted the receipt!) for 4000 dollars! I told her not without donating said amount and that sadly, she couldn't claim that much, anyway. She must have had tax problems, because she was not pleased with my answer! 🤣Great video, as always!

I believe. the deduction maxes out at $500, but it could be more. We rarely get that high, maybe by the time the years ends we might have close to $500, but we've taken the time to look at eBay and Craigs list to try and get the going price for 2nd hand things, and it usually isn't much, it would literally take us the whole year to get up to the $500 amount.
When you opened that dvds and toys box and I didn't see any loose toys in there, I was pretty sure what sort of toys you would find. I assume I was correct about that😂
@@dianavanderclute4322 You would see even less due to they shoot video only in vertical aka portrait mode. What you are looking at doesn't mean it will be fully in the frame. You can only shoot a 30 second video unless you use an app and then it's only 3 minutes tops. They do not have much storage and you have to blue tooth the video to your phone. It can't be sent directly to a computer which is probably what Alex uses for editing. Quality can also be an issue with many of the glasses that do shoot videos.

Our local Goodwill is now pretty expensive. I walk away from things I like all the time because of the price - which is close to brand new prices. We have a church charity which is much more affordable. You may have an L-shaped couch there. with the acrylic foot in the Altec Lansing metal case.
A lot of work, looks like a full day or more, plus selling and listing time, you work pretty hard sometimes. This time it probably didn't pay big, from the looks, but that is life doing what you do, I guess. You also have had some real great finds ! Alex , I like it, the channel, for your sense of humor, your humanity, and your knowledge of old stuff. It doesn't always have to be the big score to be good, IMO.

In the USA yes you get one every time you donate something and you write in yourself what you donated and at income tax time you declaire your donations, give the receipts to your accountant and they do the "magic work". You can deduct fair market value with a limit of 50% (60% if it's a cash donation) of your AGI.

We have had a tough run lately. Units that looked promising turned out to be....not so much. Love the channel and keep up the good work.

Definitely. I bought some vintage Levi jeans at a church bazaar for $3.50 and there was $20 in the pocket.
Alex, the aluminum signs can be worth far more if upcycled into boxes. With a bit of cutting & folding they can be made into decorative storage boxes.

In the U.S., if you donate cash or goods to a 501(c)3 non profit, you receive a receipt to use as a tax write off.
In the US ,if you file the Long Form for taxes, you can include different deductions -including donations to charities to help reduce your tax rate.
