Incredible story, about a great wrestler. Mark, Daves’s brother was a great wrestler as well. I acctually met him in High School when he went against my best frend @ 154’s weight class.

Good story teller, but it would be great to just hear a little more straight up honesty. No college wrestler is not going to be honored and flattered by being picked up in a Limo. You don't need to pretend like "oh, I didn't want all of that"....REALLY?

Please someone help me out but is it true that Dave was revered by the Russian people? Obviously I mean the Russians who knew about wrestling...? If thats correct could someone share some of what they know about how they and other countries, how they viewed Dave Schultz..? I also heard the respect was reciprocal for he respected the Russian history and people as well....So whoever knows anything I would love to hear some stories...Thank you in advance.... I wish Dave would have been a part of USA wrestling for years to come for so many kids lost out on this guy's knowledge and I heard he was also such a good guy that he had no problem sharing what he knew...He wasn't intimidated if they knew for he was so damn good he knew e could bet you even if you knew his gameplan much like Lombardi's Packers in that you knew they were gonna run their Packer sweep but good luck stopping it...Execution, determination, will, desire, etc and at end a day you were simply going to be dominated... Thank you FloWrestling, I just learned about you and I love what you guys do...I cannot believe that wrestling is not more popular in our country, it is amazing t watch all these incredible athletes compete... The training and work these guys put in is simply jaw dropping..I don't gotta tell you for I know you know...We gotta figure out a way to get the message out to these kids cuz once they realize all thats involved etc I think this sport could take off...Find ways for these athletes to wrestle each other on channels where they're gonna be seen...I know I can find but I have to search for them..These top matches should be on prime TV...Need to educate the viewer who these guys are, their records, their achievements, etc...They have sooo many opportunities to have marquee matchups on tv..Matchps that would blow mma matches out of the water...so many better athletes in wrestling and they need to be promoted and sold and I really think theres a market...I love mma also btw but these guys are freaks when comparatively speaking against stars of mma..I dunno, I just want to see these guys get their due.....Keep up the good work and I apologize so long, look forward to whoever has any great stories.
I have no accounts for you, but generally the sport glorifying Soviet bloc , even today, has great appreciation for champ athletes in the really tough sports like wrestling. In fact the development of wrestling in the USA and USSR was done because of each other. It was always a soft proxy war , showing off each others athletic superiority.
The athletes and fans of such sports (also weightlifting, boxing, judo and the like) obviously didn't pay any attention to that aspect.
Americans can see the quality of Russian and Iranian wrestlers and vice versa.
@@dfpguitar What I found amazing was that small area in Russia...Dagestan as I'm sure you are quite aware of--Having a population of little over 2 million but within that population the have like an unbelievable # of current world and olympic wrestling champions at all the weight classes which is astonishing when you think that the entire United States doesn't even come close to their champions--I don't mean that as a slight to America, for I am an American and want to see our athletes win world and olympic titles, but they simply are not on the level of this tiny area in Russia--So its more of a compliment to Dagestan and whatever they are putting in their water down there--If you need to buddy up with a training partner in Dagestan you can literally go through their neighborhoods and are guaranteed to find a current or former world/olympic champion to train with which is quite amazing when you think about it--there is such a fine line amongst all those competing for these titles for they all are so damn good and they all seem to be in this tiny area while the others are sprinkled throughout the world--Amazing

So, Dave Schultz was a 'dirty' wrestler.
Nothing dirty about that. In freestyle wrestling headlocks must go around the arm and neck. All wrestling holds Inc simple underhooks and collarties are always done as tight as possible. Now what happens when you grip a tight headlock around someone's neck/head and their arm/shoulder ? It becomes a (blood) choke. Dirty wrestling would be compressing the neck alone (strangulation) or doing a neck crank. A headlock around the arm is the safe and contest legal way of doing it. You can gator roll people or throw people with the hold without hurting their neck.
Every one on the foxcatcher team was world class, especially Royce. So he should be expected to be able to handle himself and tolerate basic wrestling movements. He also went to private practice with Dave out of his own choice as did the others. A private practice with an Olympic gold medalist and world champ should be expected as a contest of steel.
@@ironfront9573 , if he was drastically cutting off his blood and/or air supply then that qualifies as 'dirty'. If it's a bit uncomfortable then it's fair game. Thanks for the clarification.
